One of the hottest animated films currently is KPop Demon Hunters, which is winning over audiences with its captivating plotline and standout soundtrack. The music from the movie, created by a fictional band, is setting new records, and the album has already made a big impact on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.
One captivating number is “Your Idol,” sung by the fictional devil band, the Saja Boys, in the movie. According to news outlets, this song was designed with two popular K-Pop groups, EXO and THE BLACK LABEL, in mind. In an interview with Forbes, the songwriter, EJAE, shared that “Your Idol” was inspired by EXO and THE BLACK LABEL.
EJAE reflects on the inspiration behind Your Idol
In a chat with the media outlet, the songwriter shared that “The Saja Boys, when transformed into demons, purposefully fuel their fans’ fixation as it provides them with power.
She mentioned, “It feels like being an idol means constantly needing to be loved and revered. Being raised Christian, this idea resonated with me as ‘idolizing’ something is considered a sin. This conflict sparked the unsettling theme within the song lyrics: ‘I’ll be your Idol.’
In contrast, although the bands HUNTR/X and Saja Boys are fictional, they’ve surprisingly garnered a significant following among young listeners and enthusiasts of Korean music. Earlier, a hit single from the boy band even occupied the number one spot on Spotify, outranking the renowned global sensation BTS.
