It’s quite amusing, if it turns out to be accurate, as there was a potential reboot of Henry Cavill’s Superman role being discussed, with Michael Bay possibly taking on the directorial duties, following the film Black Adam.
Update from June 3rd (Tuesday): As anticipated, we’ve been informed by a representative of WB that they refute the allegation.

Following numerous complaints about the excessive explosions and violence in Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel”, it appears that the subsequent Superman film featuring Henry Cavill may be helmed by Michael Bay, promising an escalation in explosive action and violence.
As a movie critic, I’d like to point out an intriguing contrast in expectations surrounding Henry Cavill and Christopher McQuarrie’s take on “Man of Steel 2,” compared to Zack Snyder’s portrayal. Contrary to rumors, the new approach isn’t about stripping away hope from Superman; it’s about balancing that hope with a fair share of action-packed sequences. It seems that even Michael Bay, a fellow alumnus and film school colleague of Snyder, can deliver hope alongside explosive spectacles!
What is said about the Henry Cavill Superman movie?
Around the time when “Black Adam” hit theaters, remember how they brought back Cavill as Superman in the post-credit scene? They also announced a new Superman movie was in the works, and Henry himself confirmed he’d be returning as Superman. Unfortunately, those plans didn’t pan out, supposedly due to David Zaslav, who is the CEO of WBD (not Gunn).
According to a report by The Wrap, it appears that movie executives Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy are considering bringing Henry Cavill back as Superman, a piece of information I’ve also heard. Interestingly, the site mentions that they were informed Michael Bay could potentially be tapped to direct.
Prior to the employment of Gunn and Safran, top executives at Warner Bros. Pictures, Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy, had considered initiating a solo “Superman” movie starring Henry Cavill in 2022. There were whispers that Michael Bay might potentially direct this project, as suggested by two sources within the industry.

Why Michael Bay’s Superman Didn’t Happen — And What We Got Instead
It’s clear now that event didn’t occur as planned. Following the flop of Transformers: The Last Knight and the lackluster performance of his Netflix film 6 Underground with Ryan Reynolds, it appears unlikely Michael Bay would be tapped for a Superman movie starring Henry Cavill. However, just because discussions about it didn’t lead to anything concrete doesn’t mean they never took place.
Concerning the Cavill-McQuarrie proposal, McQuarrie recently hinted at some intriguing details, suggesting that their vision for Green Lantern would have been spectacular, accompanied by their creative concepts.
Essentially, here’s the gist: It appears that Zaslav approached Gunn and requested him to revamp DC using more cost-effective creators.
Gunn’s Superman flies into theaters on July 11th and spearheads the new DCU.
