Patrick Schwarzenegger as Sgt. Rock? Is Hollywood About to Make It Happen?

Arnold Schwarzenegger has disclosed during an interview on ‘Variety’s Actors on Actors’ that at one point, he was intended to feature in a film based on the character, Sgt. Rock; however, unfortunately, this project never materialized.

With the recent cancellation of the most recent effort to bring the DC Comics war hero character to life on screen, perhaps it’s now appropriate to hand over the action roles to a new Schwarzenegger-like figure.

It seems that Patrick Schwarzenegger discussed having a meeting with director Luca Guadagnino, who is working on Sgt. Rock at DC Studios. This suggests that Patrick could potentially be in contention for the role.

The Latest Sgt. Rock Movie Is Dead… For Now

DC Studios pulled the plug on Luca Guadagnino’s Sgt. Rock, which was set to star Colin Farrell.

Initially planned for a summer kickoff, the production had to be called off due to complications involving scheduling conflicts, director reservations, and studio uncertainty. Meanwhile, Guadagnino has shifted his focus and is currently directing a film centering on the cutting-edge artificial intelligence firm, OpenAI.

Why Patrick Schwarzenegger Makes Sense

Arnold Almost Played Sgt. Rock, And Patrick Had No Idea

In their conversation (see video), Patrick shared that he was unaware of his father’s intention to work on the Sgt. Rock project until filmmaker Luca Guadagnino mentioned it during a meeting.

Reflecting back, I was humbled when the studios proposed, “How about we collaborate on a few projects? Like ‘Eraser’, ‘Batman & Robin’, and even ‘Sergeant Rock’? Alas, the latter never materialized. Nevertheless…

Patrick chimed in, “To be honest, I wasn’t aware of this either. When I met with Luca, he mentioned it. He told me you were cast for the role, shared details about you and your character as Sgt. Rock. Upon returning home, I asked you about it since I didn’t realize you had taken on this role.

Arnold responded, “Indeed, there were numerous roles I was meant to play but didn’t get the chance. Part of it was because I was busy with two films each year and couldn’t handle more than that. Then, in 2003, you might recall, I ran for governor and eventually became one.

Arnold Says Patrick Is Ready for Action, Just Like Reacher

It’s intriguing too that Patrick consulted with his father regarding the part he should take next, one that wouldn’t pigeonhole him in a role similar to his character from White Lotus. They discussed how Arnold broke into comedy through Twins. Arnold suggested that Patrick could build up his physique like Alan Ritchson.

Arnold remarked, “Given your muscular build and your deliberate maintenance of leanness for such purposes, when an action movie opportunity arises, it’s as if you’re primed to bulk up quickly, just like Alan Ritchson did. This transformation makes you convincingly fit the role, much like Ritchson becoming indispensable in his portrayal of Reacher and similar characters.

Arnold remarked, “You’re all set to take on that role whenever they call. I mean, if someone gives you such a character, you can leap into action, and within six months, you’ll be moving about – of course, thanks to your natural genetics [they laugh].

In the comics, Sgt. Rock is portrayed as being older than Patrick Schwarzenegger, but according to Arnold’s assessment, if Patrick gains some muscle, he could potentially embody the character. Interestingly, there are rumors that Patrick might be considered for the role of Cyclops in Marvel’s upcoming X-Men reboot.
