As a movie critic, I’m thrilled to share that the upcoming DCU Clayface film appears to be progressing swiftly, with screen tests slated for this very week! Four talented actors have been rumored to be under consideration: Tom Blyth, Leo Woodall, Jack O’Connell, and George MacKay. Each of these gentlemen brings a unique talent to the table, making it an exciting prospect to see who will embody the iconic character of Clayface.
Based on previous reports, it appears that the film has experienced significant changes in its script, aiming for a shoot during autumn and a premiere in the year 2026.
DC Studios Testing for Lead Role
According to recent screen tests, it appears that the casting process is nearly complete, with DC Studios gearing up for filming in the UK starting this October. Each of the four actors involved boasts a promising career trajectory, either already having made a significant impact or showing great potential for growth.
- Tom Blyth (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes)
- Leo Woodall (The White Lotus)
- Jack O’Connell (Ferrari, Unbroken)
- George MacKay (1917, The Beast)
There’s been no official confirmation yet, but various scoopers say the role is down to this group.
Page-One Rewrite with New Creative Team
Concerning the recent updates, it’s been shared that the character Clayface underwent a comprehensive script revision from scratch. Originally penned by Mike Flanagan, he intended to direct, but had to relinquish his role due to prior obligations.
Hossein Amini, known for his work on films such as ‘Drive’, ’47 Ronin’, and ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’, is currently penning the script. James Watkins, famous for ‘Speak No Evil’, will be in charge of directing the project.
Horror Angle and Story Details
It’s been suggested, though not officially confirmed, that the movie Clayface is more of a horror-thriller with a tragic twist. The plot revolves around an actor struggling to stay relevant who resorts to injecting himself with a mysterious substance, leading him to acquire horrifying shape-shifting powers. Instead of the typical portrayal of a Batman adversary, this interpretation of Clayface seems to focus on a character trapped in a heartrending origin story as a tragic monster.
Budget and DCU Connection
Previously, James Gunn confirmed that the upcoming film will be part of the fresh DC Universe. Moreover, it’s been officially given the go-ahead for production. According to recent reports, the film is being made on a more modest budget, approximately $40 million, and it’s expected to have a chilling, horror movie atmosphere.
Gunn’s announcement referred to it as a “DCU narrative,” connecting it with the expanded universe that encompasses series such as Superman, Supergirl, and Creature Commandos.
Release Date
Clayface is scheduled to release on September 11, 2026.
It followsSupergirl on June 26, 2026, and Superman on July 11, 2025
