Harvey Weinstein Doesn’t Want to Testify in Court During New York Retrial? Here’s What We Know

Harvey Weinstein has chosen not to appear as a witness during his current sexual assault trial re-run in New York City, as reported by the Associated Press, based on information provided by his attorney, Arthur Aidala.

The trial will resume with closing statements on Tuesday, as the court doesn’t have any sessions on Mondays.

Weinstein, the former Hollywood producer, is facing three serious charges:

  • Two counts of committing a criminal s*xual act in the first degree
  • One count of third-degree r*pe

As a devoted supporter, I’m sharing that the accusations against me stem from claims made by three individuals: Kaja Sokola, a previous model; Miriam Haley, a former TV production assistant; and Jessica Mann, an aspiring actress at one time. However, it’s important to note that I have pleaded not guilty to all these allegations.

Previously, the legal team representing Weinstein began summoning their witnesses. The jury listened to earlier statements made by Talita Maia, a previous friend and roommate of Jessica Mann. Unfortunately, Maia was unable to attend in person, so the court read her testimony that was presented during Weinstein’s 2020 trial. In this statement, she claimed that Mann never displayed any discomfort around Weinstein or alleged that he had assaulted her.

Among the other defense witnesses were Thomas Richards, a friend of Mann’s, and Helga Semulsen, who had shared living quarters with Kaja Sokola in New York City during the year 2005.

In both his initial New York trial and a subsequent rape trial in Los Angeles held in 2022, Weinstein opted not to testify. Convicted in both instances, he is currently pursuing appeals for these rulings.

The jury will soon begin deliberations after hearing final arguments this week.
