As a dedicated Minecraft enthusiast, I’m eagerly awaiting the upcoming Chase the Skies update, scheduled for later this month (though an exact date hasn’t been announced just yet). With June 2025 fast approaching, it seems reasonable to expect that we now have a comprehensive list of new features set to be included in this exciting update.
We’ve rolled out some striking, innovative additions along with minor adjustments, which some enthusiasts have eagerly anticipated since Minecraft reached version 1.0.
Ridable Ghasts
The unique characteristic that sets this update apart is the ability to control and fly on Ghasts over your world. By discovering a Dried Ghast (either in a Soul Valley biome within the Nether or by crafting one) and placing it in water, you’ll eventually see it transform into a Ghastling.
Allow the Ghastling to mature (which can be accelerated by giving it Snowballs), and you’ll end up with a Joyful Ghast. After obtaining one, you can create a Flying Harness using leather, glass, and wool, which attaches to its head.
Besides serving as a helpful tool for maneuvering around, these objects can also be flipped upside down, enabling you to stack building blocks effortlessly at great heights without the hassle of constructing intricate scaffolding systems.
Craftable Saddles
As a dedicated Minecraft enthusiast, I’ve always found it peculiar that the elusive Saddle, essential for taming rideable mobs, has been notoriously tricky to obtain, primarily appearing in specific structures like Dungeons and Villages. However, the tides have turned! After years of patiently asking, the creators have finally made it possible to craft a Saddle with ease by using three Leather and one Iron Ingot. This long-awaited change is truly a game-changer for us Minecraft riders!
Lead changes
The process for creating a Lead has been simplified significantly, and it now functions differently. Previously, a Slimeball was required to craft one, but this is no longer the case – all you need are five Strings. This change makes Leads much more accessible. Instead of having to physically hold them or attach mobs to fenceposts, you can now link multiple mobs together in a long chain. It’s not just animals that can be leashed in this way; boats, Happy Ghasts, and other entities can also be connected using Leads. This makes managing groups of mobs much more convenient.
New music disk
In the latest game update, some fresh tracks have been introduced, yet only one of them includes a music disc. This implies that players who enjoy collecting these items in their world now have another one to seek out. This particular track isn’t too challenging, as it becomes available when you successfully reflect a Ghast’s Fireball back at it, causing its demise. Achieving this feat already rewards you with the “Return to Sender” achievement, and now, you also receive an additional reward alongside it.
Vibrant Visuals
In simple terms, the unique feature exclusive to Bedrock Edition significantly transforms Minecraft’s lighting system, effectively incorporating shaders as a built-in aspect of the game. Java Edition players have long been able to achieve this with mods, but now console users can also enjoy this advanced lighting technology, enhancing their gaming worlds.
Player locator bar
In multiplayer environments, finding your friends has become more convenient since an option has been added to display a locator beam instead of the XP bar at the top of your inventory. This new feature will exhibit dots, marking the positions of other players within your game world. However, it’s important to note that this makes it slightly trickier to remain concealed; though, you can opt-out by crouching, becoming invisible, or donning a pumpkin/mob head mask.
Cloud and fog changes
Starting now, the appearance of Minecraft’s skies will be revamped, with changes in how clouds are generated. This update aims to make them look more lifelike while maintaining the game’s distinctive style. As an added bonus, there’s a scarcely occurring chance that a Creeper’s face might pop up in one of these new clouds, serving as an amusing Easter egg!
In Java Edition, the fog system has been revamped, subtly adding fog at a distance in the overworld. This effect becomes more noticeable during rain and thunderstorms. While not everyone may be fond of it, it certainly enhances the game’s weather ambiance. When combined with shaders, it’s expected to create a stunning visual experience.
