During a recent chat, Nightreign’s director Junya Ishizaki shared that reusing assets across FromSoftware’s games is necessary for their prolific output. Yet, he acknowledges that this approach stirs debate among many gaming enthusiasts.
The director noted that while the concept of reusing assets in game development can spark some debate or worry, they view it as a practical approach for creating these games efficiently.
Additionally, Ishizaki clarified that the process of reusing assets in new games is not merely a matter of direct duplication, but rather involves substantial effort to adapt and integrate the existing resources into the new project.
According to the director, while Nightreign shares some similar characteristics with other games, these elements will be utilized differently to enhance gameplay and have been tailored specifically for Nightreign. Initially, it might not be immediately apparent how they’ve been adapted.
The director further clarified that employing the fundamental Elden Ring elements as a foundation for Nightreign enabled the crew to explore creatively without spending time on crafting fresh appearances. By reutilizing these assets, they could also innovate their usage, thereby accelerating development and offering fans a fresh perspective on what they cherish.
He mentioned that they managed to redirect energy towards refining the gameplay concepts and creating a fresh structure, instead.
