Universal Pictures unveiled the formal preview for what appears to be “Black Phone 2.” This announcement ensures that prominent actors will reprise their roles, while hinting at a new terrifying tale within the Black Phone series’ chilling saga.
In its initial release back in 2022, the movie known as “The Black Phone,” produced by Blumhouse, earned an impressive global revenue of over $160 million and was highly praised by critics. Now, it seems that the same phone is once again ringing, but this time with a greater sense of vengeance.

Returning Cast and Crew
The sequel to “Black Phone” features Ethan Hawke reprising his chilling role as the Grabber, joined by Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies, and Miguel Mora. Scott Derrickson once again takes the director’s chair, collaborating with C. Robert Cargill on the script. The pair also produce the film alongside Jason Blum.
I’m part of a movie production that has been jointly released by Universal and Blumhouse Pictures, with contributions from Crooked Highway Productions too. Joe Hill and Ryan Turek are the ones who have taken on the executive producer roles in this project.
Plot
In a chilling twist, Ethan Hawke reprises his most ominous character as The Grabber, appearing menacingly from beyond the grave. His focus shifts towards Gwen (Madeleine McGraw), the sister of Finn (Mason Thames), whom he had previously taken captive in a past encounter.
At 17 years old, Finn continues to grapple with the aftermath of his past troubles, whereas 15-year-old Gwen starts encountering mysterious phone calls during her sleep and having vivid dreams of three adolescents being pursued at a secluded winter retreat named Alpine Lake.
In pursuit of solving the enigma, Gwen manages to persuade Finn to join her on a journey to the camp amidst a heavy snowfall. What they discover connects The Grabber to their very own family history, compelling them to confront a menace deadlier than he had ever been in his living days.
Trailer Hints at Supernatural Sequel
The teaser trailer features a haunting voiceover and ominous visuals:
Last night I had a troubling dream. Hey Finney, did you assume our tale had concluded? But you’re gone. Yet, you understand better than most that ‘dead’ is merely a term. Someone’s here. Gwen! Vengeance belongs to him.
The conversation seems to imply that Hawke’s character might have unfinished business, and it’s clear that Finney and Gwen are significantly impacted by the incidents from the initial movie.
Franchise Future
The upcoming sequel, titled The Black Phone 2, is setting itself up as the foundation for a fresh horror series. Both Blumhouse and Universal are aiming to capitalize on the initial movie’s success by further developing the concept.
Release info
Black Phone 2 gets released in theaters on October 17th.
