After 10 years, iconic streamer Skyrim Grandma is now Oblivion Remastered Grandma: “Sorry guys, you know I have to look at everything. I’ve never been here before”

For the past ten years, Shirley Curry has been endearingly referred to as ‘Skyrim Grandma’ online due to the numerous videos and streams she’s shared of her peaceful adventures in Bethesda’s timeless RPG. Now, for the first time, she is venturing through the verdant landscapes of Cyrodiil with The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered.

Over the weekend, Curry shared her initial two videos in Oblivion Remastered, and they’re as serene as the numerous videos that have earned her a cherished online presence. Titled “Learning” and “Continuing to Learn,” respectively, these videos reflect her enduring quest for knowledge.

Indeed, they live up to their names as expected. It turns out that Skyrim Grandma earned her nickname for a reason – during her initial exploration beyond the Imperial City’s sewers, she found herself feeling both annoyed and captivated by how remarkably distinct Oblivion appears compared to its older counterpart.

In the initial stages of play, I found myself uttering that the controls were quite awkward, giving the game an unpolished feel with movements that seemed clumsy and off-putting, but as time passed, I gradually grew accustomed to them and started enjoying the experience.

Not only that, but there’s nothing quite as rewarding as observing someone truly savor the intricate details often overlooked – such as the delicate yellow blossoms and vistas she’d pause to capture on camera. She confessed to the group after meticulously mapping out a trail through the Imperial City, “I can’t help it, I have to take a peek at everything. It’s my first time here.” It’s just so endearing.

As a gamer myself, I recall Shirley Curry, affectionately known as Skyrim Granny, mentioning her intention to step away from creating gameplay walkthroughs due to a lack of enjoyment and feeling overwhelmed with it. However, it seems that the allure of Bethesda games has been too strong for her to resist completely, as she’s recently shared some sporadic clips from Skyrim and now Oblivion Remastered.
