In the tragic events of the Charred Conclave within Tainted Grail: The Fall Of Avalon, a vast number of druids met a cruel end. However, the locales where they once conducted their mystical rituals remain, shrouded in mystery and subject to speculation and whispers. Despite the prejudice towards druids, a sense of curiosity about them persists.
As an avid enthusiast, I find myself inexorably drawn to the enigmatic druids and their philosophy, despite being ensnared at the Horns of the South Keep. My innocent inquiry could potentially lead me to a grave end, but my fascination is unyielding. To my surprise, my initial query led me to discover that there’s something sinister brewing at the Ancient Cromlech, a situation too precarious to ignore.
How To Unlock The Black Tar Prophecies Side Quest
Black Tar Prophecies is one of Jann Hepler’s optional missions, and in order to access this mission, you must first complete his initial optional mission titled “The Lenses and the Eye of the Sage.
As a fan, I find myself standing outside Jann’s room nestled next to Fearghas’ workstation. If I’ve exhausted all his conversation topics, I can inquire about druidic rituals, which sets off his initial side quest. To discover the Ancient Cromlech, I should start at the Horns Of The South Keep and journey quite northward, crossing the Hunter’s Camp and Forgotten Cemetery along the way.
Should you engage in conversation with Marg at the Hunter’s Camp, it initiates a fresh adventure known as “Dead As Dreams,” a side quest. This intriguing tale unfolds at the Forgotten Cemetery and offers enticing rewards along the way.
Upon arriving at the Abandoned Stronghold, make your way east along the main road. Then, take the initial path leading north and cross the bridge near Broc, a friendly NPC who presents an engaging side quest. Once across, continue eastward beyond the All-Mother’s Shrine, and you’ll eventually stumble upon the Ancient Cromlech, your destination.
Head towards the middle of the designated space, where a prompt will appear for you to start the ritual. Observe the unfolding events and listen carefully to all the dialogue that takes place. Then make your way back to the Horns Of The South Keep, enter Jann’s chambers, and have another conversation with Jann.
How To Complete Black Tar Prophecies

Currently, it’s essential that you find and converse with Drest. He resides on the coastline of a beach positioned right below the Southern Keep’s Horns.
You can get there by traveling south-east from The Village’s fast travel spot, or by going west from The Peninsula’s fast travel point, although the latter route is longer. Both paths provide opportunities to gather some loot along the way.
Drest plays a crucial role in not just his main quest, but also two additional side quests: the ‘Age of Excuses’ from Berach, and a minor one from Keeper Dan. You can advance all three questlines by visiting these characters initially.
If you opt for the dialogue concerning the Red Priest, you’ll be able to engage his assistance free of charge. Alternatively, you can persuade him to help by offering him something to eat, such as Pork or a dish like Cabbage Rolls.
Regardless of your choice, Drest will ultimately consent, and he’ll suggest meeting him at the Ancient Cromlech. Make your way there using the rapid travel spot nearby, and upon reaching the central shrine, you’ll encounter a scene with him that results in two possible outcomes.
Attacking Iona Or Siding With Drest

You have my permission to confront Iona, or choose to align with Drest for a skirmish. Iona shares the same characteristics and combat style as a standard dryad foe, and defeating her yields Dried Resin.
Afterward, you could ask Drest for information about Iona, and later he will request some privacy before departing from the vicinity. Eventually, he will return home, thereby making himself accessible for any upcoming tasks.
It might be necessary for you to spend some time relaxing near a campfire on the beach, as Drest may not return to his home until later.
Siding With Iona

If you choose the path of cleaning the Ancient Cromlech, Iona may propose a method for revising the ritual. However, it’s important to note that this proposed solution involves the sacrifice of Drest.
If you choose to eliminate Drest prior to completing secondary missions like “Age of Excuses,” you won’t be able to finish those missions successfully, as he plays a crucial role in their favorable results. In other words, his death could lead to the failure of these missions.
By consenting, you would set in motion a series of events leading to Drest’s demise. Afterward, you could ransack his remains to secure the Druid’s Talisman, a valuable amulet that decreases overall Mana Cost by five percent. Subsequently, you could engage in conversation with Iona about her sentiments regarding this situation.
Regardless of your choice, you now have the chance to revisit Jann Heber at the Horns Of The South Keep and share what transpired, thereby finishing the quest and earning yourself 1000 EXP, plus an additional 500 EXP as a bonus.
