The game Elden Ring: Nightreign has been released, and gamers have jumped right in to explore the ever-changing landscapes and battle the Nightlord. However, if players are familiar with the original Elden Ring, they may find themselves slightly disoriented due to some adjustments in the control scheme.
In Elden Ring Nightreign, the controls are largely similar to the original Elden Ring, but there have been some adjustments – either to accommodate new skills or for organizational purposes. Some changes involve new moves or upgraded versions of old items. One alteration, however, appears to be causing a bit of confusion among players: the flask.
In the Souls series games and Elden Ring by FromSoftware, the “flask” is a crucial tool in your arsenal: it’s a refillable container for healing potions, serving as your primary source of recovery during battles. Typically, you have several consumables to choose from and use them while fighting. In Elden Ring Nightreign, however, the flask remains stationary. You can drink it by pressing the left-most face button (X or Square, depending on your controller), whereas using an item is achieved by pressing Up on the D-Pad.
I keep pressing ‘X’ to use items.

It appears that a few individuals are experiencing some disorientation in their muscle memory due to familiarity with Elden Ring controls. Interestingly, gamers who were preparing for Nightreign or simply had their schedules align this way, find themselves relearning muscle memory because of the changes made to the game.
the first is by using the traditional method of holding down the dodge button, and the second is the newly introduced one. It seems some players are accidentally using the original Elden Ring sprint instead of the new one.
That was just rude of them

An unexpected difference I noticed is that there doesn’t appear to be a crouch feature in Elden Ring: Nightreign anymore. Upon launching the game myself, I couldn’t locate the crouch option within the controller settings. It seems that instead of relocating, this function may have been removed entirely. Given the nature of Elden Ring: Nightreign, which focuses more on swift movement and defeating enemies rather than stealth, it’s understandable why this change might have occurred.
Players find that the default controls for mouse and keyboard in Elden Ring feel unfamiliar compared to the original version. It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time FromSoftware has altered control schemes. In fact, games within the Souls series or similar genres often undergo some changes, particularly for titles like Bloodborne, which have significant mechanical and systemic differences from other FromSoftware Souls-likes.
As a passionate enthusiast, I’d like to share a helpful tip: The control settings in Elden Ring Nightreign are customizable, so don’t hesitate to adjust them to feel most comfortable for you. Consider this advice as a friendly reminder to familiarize yourself with the controls and fine-tune them before embarking on your adventure. And remember, we’ve all made the mistake of drinking Estus in the heat of battle at least once!
