NYC’s Eric Adams Wants Bitcoin Bonds – Because Why Not? 🤔

New York City Mayor Eric Adams, a man whose vision for the future seems to be fueled by Bitcoin, proudly showcased his grand plan to issue Bitcoin Bonds during his grand entrance at the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas on May 28. Ah yes, because nothing says “future” like a cryptocurrency-backed municipal bond, right? 😏

Now, while the details of this ambitious initiative are as clear as mud, the main idea is to rope in bitcoin into the tangled mess of municipal finance. Adams, of course, has been dreaming of transforming New York into the “crypto capital of the world”—because we all know how smooth that transition will be, don’t we? 🙄

They’re calling these things “Bitcoin-backed municipal investment vehicles,” which, as fancy as it sounds, could either be denominated in bitcoin or backed by bitcoin reserves. But hold your horses, because, of course, we’re still waiting on the specifics. We’ve seen this kind of ‘vague-but-ambitious’ presentation before, and guess what? It’s still all smoke and mirrors. 🧐

Just to refresh your memory, Adams isn’t new to the crypto game. In 2022, he made waves by proudly announcing he would take his first three mayoral paychecks in bitcoin and ethereum. Guess he’s all-in—or is it just a well-timed PR stunt? Only time will tell. 😆
