Cats, with their soft pads, slender build, frequently fluffy coats, and the royal posture that aligns with their assertive demeanor, are endearing in any viewpoint, despite their sometimes challenging personalities. Over time, cats have garnered internet fame, with memes serving as a testament to this. They hold equal affection as dogs, both as pets and in anime characters. In the world of anime, there are numerous feline characters that are depicted as incredibly adorable and cuddly. Some anime personas possess human characteristics, yet behave and appear like cats.
Delightfully, these cats aren’t difficult to find scattered throughout the realm of anime. As a result, we’ve compiled this list of remarkable cats from the annals of anime history. Criteria for inclusion in the list include their charm and significance within their respective anime stories. Any supernatural abilities possessed by the cats serve as an added advantage. It is important to note that this list is not arranged in any particular order, but rather a compilation of the most exceptional feline characters I’ve encountered in manga and anime series and films. Without a doubt, your love for cats or anime will be sated once you peruse the list below.
70. Bleach – Yoruichi Shihoin
As a devoted fan, I’ve always admired the enigma that is Yoruichi. Though she may not be a feline in the traditional sense, her transformation into a sleek black cat with piercing yellow eyes was instrumental in helping Ichigo penetrate Soul Society. It was only later, when her true identity as a woman was revealed, that many of us realized we had been charmed by one of our favorite female characters disguised as a cat. Indeed, Yoruichi remains an unforgettable and cherished “cat girl” in my book.
Yoruichi serves as the Captain of the Second Division within the Gotei 13, renowned for her mastery over Shunpo, a swift technique where a user seemingly disappears and reappears at another location instantly. What sets her apart is that her Zanpakuto remains shrouded in mystery throughout the entire series. Interestingly, she demonstrates immense power not through her Zanpakuto, but through her Shunko – a skill that amplifies her speed using spiritual pressure. This ability also imbues her with cat-like agility and combat prowess.
69. Bleach – Raku
In the Soul Society Arc of Bleach, a character named Raku is introduced. Before its demise, Raku was a pet cat belonging to Yuzu Kurosaki. After being hit by a car while following Yuzu, Raku’s spirit remained bound due to its strong connection with the girl.
In this rephrased version, I attempted to make the text more conversational and easy to read while maintaining the original meaning.
Once it transformed into a spirit, it developed an incredibly potent energy known as reiatsu, which drew numerous Hollows towards it. When Raku’s spirit takes on its mecha-lion shape, it gains the ability to fly swiftly like a jet. This form enhances Raku’s speed and strength significantly, and it can even generate fire that encircles the cat. In this formidable guise, Raku effortlessly overpowers Hollows.
68. Bleach – Haineko

Matsumoto Rangiku’s Zanpakuto is named Haineko. In its spirit form, it transforms into a feline woman who shares the same voluptuous figure as its wielder. It adopts a humanoid cat appearance, with ears matching the color of her maroon hair, and pink fur serving as its attire, covering its body, arms, legs, and tail. Its claws are sharp nails that resemble cat’s claws. When activated, this Zanpakuto can slice through anything it touches once it transforms into ash.
Haineko means “Ash Cat” in Japanese.
67. Card Captor Sakura – Cerberus
In other versions, Cerberus – famously depicted in Cardcaptor Sakura’s anime – is often referred to as Keroberos. This enchanting feline character is renowned for its adorable appearance. Not only does Cerberus serve alongside Sakura, but it also bestowed upon her the duty of sealing cards she accidentally released without prior consent.
In reality, Cerberus was not the adorable plush lion cub as people often perceive him; instead, it was just a disguise. His true form is that of a fierce lion or cougar-like creature, adorned with armor and graced with a pair of angelic wings. However, do not be deceived by his cute appearance, for he possesses great intelligence as well.
66. Cardcaptor Sakura – Spinel Sun

In Cardcaptor Sakura, Spinel Sun is yet another charming character, appearing as a feline figure. This character serves as Eirol Hiiragizawa’s protector and embodies the counterpart of Cerberus in every way, including when transformed. When borrowing a form, Spinel Sun appears as a diminutive black cat with beautiful blue butterfly wings.
Instead of his true form resembling a black panther with oversized blue butterfly wings and armor similar to Cerberus, let’s say that Spinel Sun appears as a sleek black panther adorned with massive blue butterfly-like wings and sporting armored plating reminiscent of the legendary guard dog, Cerberus. Furthermore, this character is often regarded for its endearing nature and its propensity to become rather tipsy when indulging in sweet treats.
65. Naruto – Tora
In the anime series Naruto and Naruto Shippuuden, Tora is Madam Shijimi’s beloved, overweight feline companion. Madam Shijimi adores Tora so much that she frequently gives the cat affectionate hugs that make it cry from being squeezed too tightly. Despite cats typically disliking being touched excessively, Tora often escapes her caretaker due to this irritation. Consequently, Madam Shijimi assigns low-priority missions to ninja apprentices, or genins, to retrieve Tora when she goes missing.
She’s recognized for sporting a ribbon on her left ear, adorned with brown fur featuring a distinctive black-striped pattern consisting of three parallel lines. In the first installment of the series, Naruto and Sasuke managed to capture Tora. As the story progresses in Part II, it’s Konohamaru and his companions who observe that Tora becomes increasingly adept at concealing herself each time she escapes.
64. Naruto – Matatabi

In the Naruto series, one noteworthy feline character is Matatabi, the Two-Tailed Beast. This character is typically depicted as a female cat, suggested by her voice in the anime. Matatabi stands out with her unique appearance, featuring odd eyes that are yellow and green, and possessing two tails. Her fur, surprisingly, resembles blue flames. Black swirly patterns adorn her body, mirroring the flare of her fiery coat.
Known from Naruto is Matatabi, the Two-Tailed Beast – a cat character often portrayed as female, indicated by her voice in the anime. She has an unusual look with two tails, yellow and green eyes, and fur that appears as blue flames. Black swirls decorate her body, echoing the blaze of her fiery coat.
In the Naruto series, Matatabi was the possession of Yugito Nii. This character is recognized for utilizing Fire Release jutsus. Compared to other tailed beasts, Matatabi exhibits a more refined demeanor, often speaking politely and using honorifics, which sets it apart from its counterparts.
63. Prince Of Tennis – Karupin
In the world of Prince of Tennis, I’m Karupin, the feline companion of the main character, Ryoma Echizen. I may not play a significant role in the series, but I can be found roaming around the Echizen household or catching some z’s. You’ll often find me lounging in Ryoma’s room and developing quite an affinity for him. We share many moments together, including cozy sleeps side by side, as we bond over our shared space.
Karupin is well-known for his intelligence; he can tell if Ryoma accidentally brings his toy with them when leaving home, leading him to follow Ryoma all the way to school.
62. Sailor Moon – Luna

In the popular anime series, Sailor Moon, Luna is not just a talking black cat belonging to Usagi Tsukino (Sailor Moon), but rather serves as an advisor and guardian for Usagi and her team of Guardian Senshi friends. This adorable black feline with a crescent moon mark on its forehead has extraordinary abilities, including performing mid-air somersaults to produce necessary items such as transformation pens or even a supercomputer for her fellow Guardians.
Additionally, she possesses the ability to stir up the Sailor abilities of the Protectress Warriors, illuminating their crescent moon symbols once activated.
61. Sailor Moon – Artemis
Artemis, often called Sailor Venus’s male guardian cat, is white. He has a crescent moon mark on his forehead too. Though he’s known for being laid-back, Artemis puts forth great effort to encourage Minako by aiding her in fulfilling her life goals. This supportive feline even takes on tasks like submitting audition papers for her, all to help her succeed in chasing her dreams.
Just as strikingly different as night and day, Artemis and Minako frequently clash in opinions. Yet, their relationship develops over the course of the series. What’s peculiar about Artemis is his quirky habit of turning off Minako’s alarm clock, which leads to her often arriving late for class.
60. Sailor Moon – Diana

In the future, Diana is identified as the offspring of Luna and Artemis. Her debut was in Sailor Moon S when she time-traveled to the present, assuming the role of Chibiusa’s guardian. This feline character has a gray coat, derived from the black and white hues of her parents. A crescent moon emblem adorns her forehead, and she wears a bell as an accessory. Known for her intelligence and bravery, Diana is often recognized as a wise and courageous cat.
59. InuYasha – Kirara
In the anime, Kirara is a soft and fluffy nekomata that was initially owned by Sango, later passing to Kohaku post-Naraku’s destruction. Eventually, Kirara forged a bond with Setsuna, a half-demon slayer. Nekomatas are Japanese folklore creatures resembling cats, and in this series, they are known for having two tails. Kirara is a cream-colored feline with a couple of black stripes running along her dual tails, as well as dark ears and fiery red eyes.
Kirara is an exceptionally devoted feline within the community, also recognized for her lively and intelligent nature. However, beneath her adorable exterior lies a formidable creature resembling a saber-toothed tiger, which she transforms into when needed.
58. Darker Than Black – Mao
Mao, once human, now inhabits the form of a regular black cat adorned with a bell. This cat is known as Mao within Hei’s Syndicate, where he serves as a helpful contractor in handling infiltration and decoys. Tragically, his black cat body perished, leading him to transfer into a more endearing creature – a momonga, which turns out to be Pet Peche belonging to Suou Pavlichenko.
57. Kiki’s Delivery – Jiji
In the Studio Ghibli movie “Kiki’s Delivery,” there is another character – a black cat named Jiji. This cat has big, round eyes and stays by Kiki’s side throughout the film. Interestingly, the personalities of Jiji in both English and Japanese versions are quite different. The English version portrays Jiji as a sassy and chatty cat who often appears arrogant, while the Japanese version depicts him as a humble cat instead.
In the film, Jiji too discovered a feline companion, a pure-white cat called Lily, who later became his girlfriend. By the movie’s conclusion, they had given birth to their own offspring.
56. Kiki’s Delivery – Lily
In the movie, there’s a white, fluffy female cat named Lily who shares a special bond with Jiji. Similar to Luna and Artemis, these two cats are distinct in their colors, as Lily stands out against Jiji’s appearance. She is a plump cat, boasting green eyes and a long, shaggy tail.
Lily got into a relationship with Jiji and got children with him by the end of the film.
55. Tokyo Ghoul – Maris Stella
Akira Maido’s cat, Maris Stella, usually stays in his apartment. Her tail is quite bushy with long fur, making her appear very fluffy. She often seems grumpy towards people and is generally unfriendly, but she’s friendly only towards Akira.
54. Natsume’s Book of Friends – Madara

Additionally recognized as Nyanko-sensei, Madara serves as one of the principal characters in Natsume’s Book of Friends. This character is depicted as a plump feline with an off-white coat, and a round pattern of brown and gray fur on its head in the shape of a cap. In truth, Madara is a yokai who disguised itself as a beckoning cat to act as Natsume’s protector.
Yet, under the agreement for his services as a bodyguard, Madara stipulated that he would receive the Book of Friends if Natsume were to perish. Initially finding Natsume’s excessive kindness annoying, Madara appeared to grow fond of Natsume as the story unfolded.
53. Nichijou: My Ordinary Life – Sakamoto
In addition to Hakase and Nano’s other feline companion, there’s Sakamoto – a black cat they discovered. Interestingly, this cat wears a red scarf that allows him the unique ability to speak. Previously, Sakamoto belonged to Kana Nakamura, but he escaped due to his previous owner’s poor care. This cat is easily recognizable by his large, round eyes and extremely narrow, vertical pupils. Notably, Sakamoto has gained popularity for adopting a condescending tone when conversing with Nano and Hakase.
Despite typically feline habits, he frequently conceals these traits around his owners to demonstrate maturity. It’s challenging for him to keep restraint, as evident in moments when he couldn’t help but pounce on toys or other playthings presented to him.
52. Flying Witch – Chito
Makoto’s cat, named Chito, appears in the animated show Flying Witch. Chito serves as Makoto’s companion and is believed to be a magical familiar. This cat, who is around 17 years old, holds a special place in the heart of its owner.
51. Princess Tutu – Neko Sensei

Mister Cat, or Neko Sensei as he’s often called, serves as the ballet instructor at Gold Crown Academy. He has a reputation for being quite stern, and occasionally employs “marriage” as a form of discipline when mistakes are made. It’s well-known that this cat has a mischievous side, particularly around certain adult females. Unlike his counterparts who transformed into humans in the series finale, he retained his feline appearance.
50. The Ancient Magus’s Bride – Molly
Molly, often referred to as the Last King of Cats, boasts an orange coat adorned with a fluffy texture, along with captivating eyes that shimmer green and blue. This majestic-looking feline calls Ulthar village her home. She’s renowned for her regal appearance that exudes beauty and grace.
49. Pandora Hearts – Cheshire Cat
Originally owned by Oswald and named Cheshire, this character was initially a black cat with golden eyes who belonged to Alice. Not many know that Alice has the ability to swap bodies with her twin residing in the Abyss, but Cheshire is one of them. After his demise, he underwent a transformation from a cat into a Chain.
In this redesign of Cheshire, he was given a form resembling a human with an impressive, tough-looking appearance, in my opinion. However, he kept many feline traits like sharp claws and pointed cat ears.
48. The Cat Returns – Baron Humbert von Gikkingen

Known simply as “The Baron,” this cat character is famously associated with Studio Ghibli’s productions and can be seen in two of their films – he plays a character in Whisper of the Heart, and is the secondary protagonist in The Cat Returns. In Whisper of the Heart, The Baron initially appears as a statue owned by Shiro Nishi; his female counterpart also features in the storyline.
In The Cat Returns, he earned a greater responsibility because of the acclaim he received from the previous movie. Baron Hattori is a member of the Cat Bureau within the Cat Kingdom, where he assists Haru Yoshioka, a girl who wandered into that very realm.
47. The Cat Returns – Prince Lune
In the series, Prince Lune assumes the role of a secondary character. Born as the Crown Prince of the Feline Kingdom, this sleek black feline boasts striking red and blue eyes. Draped in royal attire, he might appear to uphold aristocratic standards. However, he defies such expectations by disregarding social hierarchies and finding himself smitten with a cat servant.
In her human guise, Haru rescued him, and he vowed to reciprocate when she found herself trapped in the Feline Domain. Additionally, he grappled with obstacles posed by his father, whose aspirations for him were far from his preferred path.
46. The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya – Shamisen
Originally, Shamisen was a wandering calico feline, whom Haruhi Suzumiya adopted after chance encounters. Following the narrative of The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina Episode 00, he now resides with Kyon. In various storylines, he served as Yuki’s companion, embodying her familiar. When Haruhi found herself perplexed by the blurred lines between reality and fiction, Shamisen emerged as a talking cat with an insightful personality and a voice to match his profound nature.
Kyon is often seen in the slice-of-life scenes of Kyon.
45. Doraemon – Doraemon

You’ve nailed it! Doraemon, the beloved gadget-generating machine, is everyone’s favorite. His original name is MS-903 Doraemon, as he was manufactured by Matsushiba Robot Company. Initially designed to serve as robot caretakers for children, a defect during production led to his unique role as Sewashi Nobi’s caretaker instead.
Known famously as a round, blue-furred feline without ears, Doraemon possesses an enigmatic pouch on his abdomen, similar to a kangaroo’s, which allows him to produce various items at will. He uses these objects to aid Sewashi Nobi in times of distress or when he needs something to brighten up his day.
44. Doraemon – Dorami
The Birth of Doraemon. She’s a cat robot with a cobalt yellow body, accessorized with a red ribbon bow and a flower on her tail. Her distinctive feature is the red stripes that cross her 4D pocket. To enhance her feminine appearance, she was given eyes similar to Shizuka’s.
The explanation for them being siblings like Doraemon is because they both received the same energy source. Compared to other robot designs, Dorami possesses exceptional intelligence due to its advanced design. She’s known for her sense of duty and responsibility. Although smaller than her brother, Dorami boasts faster motor speeds, as her creator explains.
43. Doraemon – Noramyako
In various iterations of the Doraemon series, Noramyako serves as the initial love interest for Doraemon. Her appearance can vary significantly across different anime and manga adaptations. Generally speaking, she is often depicted with cat-like features such as ears and pink fur that resemble those of Doraemon. In some versions, however, like the original anime series, Noramyako appears taller than Doraemon and has a more elongated body shape rather than being round. In the manga and 2112: The Birth of Doraemon, she possesses a humanoid form and displays a more feminine appearance.
Noramyako is stated to have dumped Doraemon but were in a relationship before.
42. Code Geass – Arthur

Arthur, a sociable and affectionate feline, was discovered by Euphemia but frequently observed with Anya Alstreim. This gray cat sports a black marking on her left eye and the end of her tail. Contrary to her name, Arthur is actually a female cat. She often appears in tranquil settings devoid of activity. The cat’s bond with them is so strong that she feels free to roam wherever she pleases, even perching on Anya’s head at times.
In the show, Arthur is recognized for frequently nibbling on Suzauku’s hands or legs as a recurring joke.
41. Katekyo Hitman Reborn – Bester
On the list are larger cats like lions and tigers, recognized for their feline traits. However, Bester stands out as he’s not just any cat – he’s a liger, a hybrid born from a lion and a tiger. In the story, Bester is Xanxus’ Box Weapon, known as Ligre Tempesta di Cieli. This unique Box Weapon carries attributes related to the sky and storms, given its rarity.
This creature boasts a snowy coat and a lion-like mane adorned with Sky Flames, along with black tiger-like stripes covering its body. A tuft of lion’s hair tips its tail. When provoked, the stripes become more prominent and are renowned as a fearsome weapon. It possesses immense strength in clawing and biting, and it can unleash Ruggito di Cieli, an attack utilizing powerful roars.
40. Katekyo Hitman Reborn – Natsu
The weapon named Sky Vongola, also known as Natsu by Tsuna, is a Box Weapon with an animal-type structure and possesses flames of the Sky Attribute. This unique weapon belongs only to Tsuna, granting him either a protective cloak or enhancing his X-Gloves into Gauntlets. Initially, it manifested as a fearsome feline entity when Tsuna accidentally opened the box due to doubts about his own abilities.
However, once Tsuna managed to boldly unlock the Box, Natsu transformed into an adorable cub resembling a lion with Sky-attribute flames adorning its mane and tail tuft. On his head, he donned armor mimicking Tsuna’s gauntlets. In this animal form, Natsu could execute attacks similar to those of a lion or cat.
39. Mei And The Kittenbus – Kittenbus

As a devoted cinephile, I must say that one of the most unique and adorable creations I’ve come across from Studio Ghibli is none other than Nekobus – a bus-like cat designed for small passengers, much like myself when I was young. This feline marvel boasts four legs, adorned with stripes of orange and brown fur that resemble the patterns on a real cat. Its eyes are a vibrant yellow, capable of piercing through darkness and transporting its riders to any destination in the blink of an eye.
38. Re: Zero – Puck
Puck is a charming gray feline with a white face extending to its tummy. There’s an earring on its right ear, giving it a distinctive look. Its essence might be artificial, but it generally exudes a cheerful demeanor. However, when agitated, its disposition transforms dramatically. In battle, Puck can manipulate ice and has the ability to assume a form that overshadows its initially cute appearance.
37. Azumanga Daioh – Maya
As a dedicated anime enthusiast, let me share my fondness for the unforgettable feline character, Maya, from Azumanga Daioh. Belonging to Sakaki, Maya is an extraordinary Iriomote Mountain cat, recognized by her rich brown fur adorned with darker spots and distinctive lines running down her back. During a school excursion to Okinawa Prefecture, the serendipitous encounter between Sakaki and Maya took place on Iriomote Island.
Initially, Maya was the first feline whom Sakaki could comfortably stroke. For quite some time, Maya and Sakaki coexisted until they both departed from the island. However, a few days later, Sakaki discovered that the Iriomote cat who had met an unfortunate end in a car crash was none other than Maya’s mother. In the end, Maya decided to make her home with Sakaki.
36. My Roommate Is A Cat – Haru Mikazuki

In the given series, Haru Mikazuki serves as a key character, often second to the main protagonist. Despite sporting a rugged appearance that might initially seem intimidating, Haru maintains an endearing quality that cat enthusiasts find irresistible. The character’s eyes are colored red, and its fur is primarily dark gray, with a striking white patch on its belly.
Despite living with Subaru Mikazuki, there were frequent miscommunications between them. Moreover, her troubled past, during which she was often mistreated on the streets by strangers, had left her with trust issues towards humans.
35. The Pet Girl of Sakurasou – Hikari
In a natural and easy-to-understand way, we can say: Hikari is Sorata Kanda’s sweet-appearing white feline companion, whom he took in off the streets as a stray cat. From day one, they formed a strong bond. Unfortunately, Hikari was the cause of Sorata being asked to leave his former dormitory, since pets were not allowed. Through all the trials that life has thrown at Sorata, gentle Hikari has always been there to provide comfort and support.
34. Children Who Chase Lost Voices – Mimi
Mimi, resembling a kitsune in appearance, is a charmingly fluffy feline belonging to Asuna Watase, a young lady who found herself in mature circumstances following her father’s demise at an early age. Mimi sports a warm-toned coat with darker brown stripes spread across its body and a distinctive diamond pattern adorning the sturdy length of its tail.
Mimi serves as a keepsake from Asuna’s father, accompanied by a cat-whisker record player which she frequently uses at specific moments.
33. Persona 5 – Morgana

In the animated adaptation of the widely recognized game Persona, Morgana made an appearance. This character, both significant and playable in the original game, is a feline-like figure with distinct features: a black tail ending in a white tip, a small humanoid body, a large, adorable cat head, and eyes so big and blue they seem captivating.
Despite having a feline resemblance, he insists on being regarded as a human, for he believes in possessing an authentic human form that he intends to regain once more. Morgana displays a logical and practical mindset, often approaching situations with reason rather than emotion. He is also steadfast in his pursuit of goals, placing them above motivations.
32. The Secret World Of Arrietty – Niya
In many of Studio Ghibli’s films, cats are a common presence, and this trend continues in “The Secret World of Arrietty.” One such cat is Niya, who is a plump feline with a light gray coat speckled with violet patches, her head, tail, and legs adorned with violet fur. At the start of the movie, Niya is seen pursuing Arrietty, but as the plot unfolds, they develop a strong friendship.
31. School Rumble – Iori
In School Rumble, Yakumo Tsukamoto owns a cat named Iori who sports an X-shaped scar on his forehead. The origin of this scar remains a mystery; it might be from past mistreatment or street mishaps given that Iori is a stray. He frequently resides at the Yagami Shrine and eventually found a home with Yakumo.
In certain episodes, Iori makes an appearance, but it’s in the last episode of the first season that his role becomes significant, with him and Tenma exchanging their physical forms.
30. Fairy Tail – Happy

In a different world called Edolas, there resides a creature named Exceed named Happy. Originally, Queen Shagotte of Extalia dispatched him to the primary universe with the mission of eliminating the Dragon Slayers. However, fate had other plans when he hatched and befriended Natsu instead. Since that day, they have been unbreakable companions.
Contentedly purrs a winged feline named Happy, who possesses a unique ability to sprout wings and fly. Using this power, he often soars through the skies, carrying Natsu as his trustworthy companion. This quirky cat with an affinity for fish is also known for his devotion, making him an exceptional friend. Moreover, Happy harbors affectionate feelings towards Carla, Wendy’s Exceed partner.
29. Fairy Tail – Carla
In another phrasing, we find that Carla is an Exceed of pure white, originally hailing from Extalia. However, her mother dispatched her on a mission to eliminate the Dragon Slayers. Interestingly, like Happy, she formed a bond with one of the targeted Dragon Slayers, Wendy. This friendship was not uncommon among Exceeds who encountered their Dragon Slayer counterparts. Unlike Happy, who is known for his whimsical and cheerful personality, Carla maintains a more subdued and stoic facade, revealing her emotions infrequently.
Carla, who is a feline with a unique ability, can transform into a flying creature by growing wings and aid Wendy in aerial assaults. Given a year of training, she can even change into a cat-like human form using her mastery over Transfiguration spells.
28. Fairy Tail – Panther Lily
In a different world known as Edolas, there lives an Exceed named Panther Lily who originally held the position of commander for the 1st Division within the Magic Militia of its royal army. Unlike Happy and others, his previous life was in Edolas before being moved to Earth Land following certain events that occurred in that world.
As an admirer, I’d rephrase it like this: I’m talking about Panther Lily, a muscular black panther who towers above humans in his original form but was scaled down to the size of Happy and other Exceed upon arriving in Earth Land. Despite this reduction, he can still transform back to his original size for brief periods. His adorable Earth Land form captured Gajeel’s heart instantly, as he had never before had a partner.
27. Fairy Tail – Lector

In this story, Lector, a feline companion owned by the mighty mage Sting from Sabertooth, shares a bond with another Exceed named Frosch. This fiery-haired cat, Lector, is often seen as arrogant and proud, sometimes going so far as to ridicule others.
As a cinephile, I must admit that I hold my fellow guild members and our esteemed leader, Sting, in high regard. However, following the dramatic turn of events at the Grand Magic Games, the haughty demeanor of Lector has noticeably softened.
26. Fairy Tail – Frosch
Froggy, a delightful companion to Lector, belongs to Rogue. This small, green-furred creature is actually an Exceed, but wears a pink frog costume that covers his entire body except for his face. Despite the suit, he’s quite jovial and carefree. Interestingly, Froggie often talks about himself in the third person.
Additionally, he often poses repetitive queries, yet he’s deeply affectionate towards his master, Rogue, which undeniably makes him one of the most adorable characters within the series.
25. Fairy Tail – Shagotte
Queen Shagotte hails from Extalia and is the mother of Carla. She stands out among other Exceeds due to her height, and she shares a striking resemblance with her daughter. Decorative diamond patterns adorn her eyes, and she sports an earring on her left lobe. At first glance, Queen Shagotte seemed stern in her rule; however, it was later revealed that she followed the guidance of the Exceed Elders who assisted her in governing Extalia.
Indeed, she’s a compassionate queen, deeply concerned for the well-being of her subjects, and prepared to lay down her life for her child.
She truly embodies kindness as a queen, prioritizing the safety of her people and demonstrating an unwavering willingness to give up her own life for her daughter.
24. Fairy Tail – Nichiya

Absolutely, if you’re familiar with Ichiya, it’s unlikely that you’d forget Nichiya either. Nichiya is an Exceed who serves as captain of Extalia’s Imperial Guard. In many ways, he resembles the character Ichiya. While he retains some feline characteristics typical of other Exceeds, his hairstyle and facial structure are reminiscent of Ichiya.
In a manner reminiscent of Ichiya, I adopt poses that suggest a model, exude an air of vanity, and occasionally use the term “men.” This behavior leaves both Erza and myself feeling uneasy.
23. Fairy Tail – Touka
Toula is an Exceed living in Elentir, similar to Earth Land in Extalia. Meanwhile, there’s another Exceed named Touka with white fur, blue eyes, pink ears, and light-blue markings on her face and head. Touka has a strong affection for Happy, which led her to join Fairy Tail, although she initially mistook Happy for Natsu.
As a cinephile enamored by the magical world of Fairy Tail, I found myself captivated by Faris, the enigmatic White Mage who holds an uncanny power to nullify and dominate magic practitioners. This extraordinary ability has granted her the capacity to metamorphose into a human form mirroring that of the White Mage herself – an aspect that left many members of Fairy Tail perplexed, believing she was in search of the Dragon Slayer, owing to her confusion in addressing Happy as “Natsu.
22. 6 Lovers – Shingo
Shingo is a tiny, charming feline with a captivating appearance. He sports tiny beads for eyes, oversized brown ears, and white fur dotted with an orange mark on his left eye. You’ll frequently find Shingo in the company of Miu, as she loves to cradle this cute cat more often than not.
21. Dragon Ball – Korin

In simpler terms, Korin is an elderly white cat who can walk like a human, talk in human language, and is wise beyond his years. He lives in a towering skyscraper and was Son Goku’s martial arts instructor, as well as helping him with various tasks. Goku became the powerful warrior he is today due to Korin’s training. Despite being 800 years old, Korin still possesses remarkable strength and continues to teach young Goku.
Additionally, since the author modeled it after his sleepy cat during the process of creating Korin, the character’s eyes appear closed.
20. Dragon Ball – Scratch
In simpler terms, Scratch, known by some as Tama, is a black feline belonging to Dr. Brief (Bulma’s father) in the Dragon Ball universe. Although it doesn’t play a significant role compared to many other cats in the series, its association with this iconic anime/manga franchise and its straightforward design make it worthy of inclusion on our list.
In my movie review perspective, Scratch appears as a feline figure, distinctively adorned in a jet-black hue that resembles a sketch done with a black pen. This cat figure boasts round eyes that mirror each other and an open mouth shaped similarly. Loyalty seems to be Scratch’s defining trait, as he frequently displays affection towards Bulma and Dr. Brief.
19. Dragon Ball – Puar
In simpler terms, Puar is a friendly, plump cat character who shares a bond with Yamcha. Unlike ordinary cats, Puar can walk on two legs like humans, similar to Korin. With beady eyes that add to its adorable charm and a coat of blue fur accented by a brown tail tip and inner ear, Puar is a cute, chubby shape-shifter in the series.
In most Dragon Ball saga stories, Puar has taken on a secondary role; yet in the initial installment, his significance was more substantial, similar to Yamcha. Interestingly, Puar possesses the ability to metamorphose into various forms, even mimicking deities such as Beerus. However, while changing shape, Puar’s eyes remain visible. Additionally, just like other characters, Puar can levitate and fly.
18. Dragon Ball – Beerus

Although not technically classified as a sphinx cat, it bears the likeness of one. In the Dragon Ball universe, Beerus goes by the title of “God of Destruction.” Initially portrayed as an antagonist, he clashed with Goku but emerged victoriously – at least for the time being. Some speculate that he may be concealing his full strength, given his divine status; however, only future events will reveal this.
Following his loss against Goku and the emergence of his Super Saiyan Blue form, he shifted towards a more supportive position in the ongoing storyline, notably during the Tournament of Power.
17. Fruits Basket – Kyo Sohma
In Fruits Basket, Kyo Sohma is a prominent character who is romantically involved with Tohru Sohma. Kyo is actually a human with orange hair, but he transforms into an orange cat either when touched by someone of the opposite gender or when emotionally overwhelmed.
As a devoted cinephile, I found myself bewitched by a family curse, orchestrated by an enigmatic figure who had formed such a profound connection with the Zodiac animals that he ensured our eternal bond through a powerful enchantment.
Following the loss of his mother and being turned away by his father, he eventually moved in with Yuki and Tohru. Over the course of the story, Kyo developed feelings for Tohru and discovered genuine affection towards her.
16. A Whisker Away – Kakinuma
In one of the latest anime movies titled “A Whisker Away,” there’s a character named Kakinuma, who is a human cat with a unique appearance. He has white fur with dark brown patches scattered all over his body, even extending to his face. The brown pattern distinctively marks the area around his nose, creating a division between the white fur around his eyes and mouth. Kakinuma usually dons an orange kimono, and his design gives him a serious demeanor that suits him well.
15. A Whisker Away – Taichi

In the latest feline-inspired anime, A Whisker Away, another character named Taichi is introduced. This character is portrayed as a yellow cat, with coarse, jagged fur covering its entire body and face. It also has distinctive brown spots on its head, along with narrow eyes. Typically, you’ll find him dressed in a navy blue v-neck t-shirt. His appearance, coloring, and eye structure give him a kitsune-like appearance rather than that of a standard cat.
14. A Whisker Away – Tamaki
Tamaki resembles a Siamese cat, with cream fur and distinctive brown markings on her face, ears, and paws. She frequently dons a teal v-neck that extends to her waist, layered over a lime v-neck with rolled sleeves. A striking red necklace is another characteristic feature of Tamaki’s attire.
13. Kemono Friends – Lion
In the game and anime Kemono Friends, Lion is portrayed as a female character. Her hair is long, wavy, and thick, giving it a striking resemblance to a lion’s mane. Her eyes are golden, and her expression can be quite fierce, reminiscent of a real lion. She has an athletic build and dons a school uniform.
A lion is recognized for its strong and competitive nature. She maintains a friendship with Moose but also has a fierce competitive spirit against her. Much like a real lion, Lion embodies strength, aloofness, and above all, pride towards her companions. However, away from her group, she is extremely affectionate, playful, and even somewhat lethargic about engaging in other activities.
12. Kemono Friends – Sand Cat

In the animated series Kemono Friends, Sand Cat is a frequently appearing character. Her fur is a light blonde hue, reminiscent of the desert feline it’s modeled after. Her eyes are a striking shade of yellow-green, and her tail is quite substantial. The pattern on her fur mimics the stripes found on real sand cats. She dons a white, sleeveless top, with a bow at her neck matching the color of her hair. Additionally, she wears a bright yellow, high-waisted skirt.
11. Kemono Friends – Margay
Similar to all characters in Kemeno Friends, Margay is named after the margay animal. Just like her namesake, Margay sports fur with spots near her bangs, and ears that match the same color. Her likeness to the real margay is striking. Regarding her attire, it resembles Sand Cat’s outfit but features the same colors as Margay’s fur, with spots adorning her bow, gloves, and skirt. To complete the look, she has a tail striped in the same color scheme.
10. Kemono Friends – Jaguar
In the world of Kemono Friends, Jaguar is another character modeled after a feline. Her name alludes to her robust figure, similar to that of a Lion. Standing taller than most other characters in the series, her height mirrors the length a jaguar can attain during a run. She sports black spots around her forehead area, much like the real-life jaguar. Her outfit includes a spotted skirt and gloves, and her tail too bears these distinctive markings. In contrast, her bow is not as ornate as Margay’s.
Despite appearing rough due to her genuine animal motif, she’s actually a kind and considerate individual who extends great help.
9. One Piece – Richie

Mohji, part of the Buggy Pirates crew, owns a majestic lion named Richie. Because of his association with the well-known pirate group, Richie has gained popularity as well. He sports a golden-brown coat and a distinctive pink mane. In combat, Richie appears fierce, but off the battlefield, he often displays a quirky side.
During the time jump, it seems that Richie grew plump as a result of Buggy’s newfound riches, which may have dulled his fearsome nature.
8. One Piece – Nekomamushi
One Piece’s Nekomamushi is currently one of the most beloved characters. He’s an oversized, lemon-hued cat-milk creature with a massive, striped tail. His appearance includes razor-sharp teeth and a jagged mane that gives off a fierce vibe to match his fighting style. There’s a long scar running down the right side of his face, earned from being tortured by Jack, and he lost his left arm in the ordeal; now, he wields a gun prosthetic instead.
Nekomamushi is an ally of Luffy, holding the position as the Night Ruler of Zou, while the Day Ruler sleeps. Previously, along with Inurashi, they were part of the Mink Tribe under Oden Kozuki before assuming their roles as rulers of Zou. Much like other members of the Mink Tribe, Nekomamushi has a transformation known as Sulong, which increases his ferocity when he gazes at a full moon. In this form, he grows more extensive and jagged fur, enhancing his monstrous appearance, and significantly boosts his power.
In the concluding section, I’ll be diving into Pokémon with a cat-like appearance, each accompanied by a description reminiscent of their Pokedex entries!
7. Pokemon – Espeon
Among the various transformations Eevee can undergo, one is Espeon – often referred to as the Sun Pokemon. This particular Pokemon resembles a feline, boasting two tails and exceptionally long ears that have fur spiking out below them. Its facial structure and eyes are reminiscent of a cat’s as well. It sports purple fur, adorned with a red orb on its forehead.
Espeon is a Pokemon with Psychic abilities that possesses fur that reacts to air changes, allowing it to forecast weather patterns. Its tail vibrates when anticipating an opponent’s actions. Espeon has been showcased in the anime as Sakura’s (one of the Kimono Sisters) Pokemon companion.
6. Pokemon – Raikou

Raikou is a Legendary Pokemon in the game and series, famously known as the Electricity Pokemon due to its appearance similar to a saber-toothed tiger. Its fur is yellow with black stripes that seem like electric currents. It has a slender, spark-tipped blue tail and an X-shaped muzzle. Additionally, it boasts a long, violet fur resembling a thundercloud, extending from its head to its back, giving the impression of a storm cloud.
Raiko, a Pokemon with an Electric type, possesses the ability to fly by creating thunderstorms. It generally harbors deep mistrust towards humans but can develop friendships with those who gain its trust. This formidable creature is often seen in situations where other Electric-type Pokemon are threatened or when there’s intense lightning activity nearby. As swift as a bolt of lightning, it isn’t just fast but also has the power to manipulate thunderclouds at will.
Raikou is featured as the main character in the anime movie The Legend of Thunder!
5. Pokemon – Meowth
You’ll always be missing a crucial member if you don’t include Meowth on your list of cat Pokémon! Known as the Scratch Cat Pokémon, this small cat-like character boasts cream-colored fur, but its feet, tail, and ears are brown. Its large, round eyes have vertical slits, giving it a distinct appearance. Notably, Meowth can stand on its hind legs, but it can also walk on all fours like other Pokémon. A unique feature of this Pokémon is the gold koban plate adorning its forehead. Additionally, two whiskers protrude upwards from either side of the coin, and two more are found on each cheek.
Meowth is recognized for its affection towards glittery items and possesses an extraordinary talent to produce coins through Pay Day. This night-dwelling feline roams cities, drawn by anything sparkling in its path. Additionally, the widespread popularity of Meowth is attributed to the fact that prominent members of Team Rocket, Jessie and James, own a talking Meowth who occasionally demonstrates intelligence beyond theirs.
Meowth can transform into a Persian or its Alolan variant (of the Dark type), and there’s also an alternate form of it called Galarian Meowth, which is a Steel-type Pokémon that eventually evolves into Perrserker.
4. Pokemon – Persian
The elegant Pokemon known as Persian is often likened to a regal feline. This Pokemon evolves from Meowth and gained popularity due to being owned by Giovanni, the leader of Team Rocket. Its fur is a soft pale tan color, with black ears adding contrast. In place of Meowth’s coin, it sports a red orb on its forehead. Its whiskers are incredibly sensitive, allowing it to sense even the slightest movement.
As a fan, I can’t help but admire the elegance of Persian, a trait that mirrors the poise of a powerful figure like Giovanni, the crime syndicate boss. However, just like Giovanni, Persians are not easy to handle due to their quick tempers. They have a long-standing feud with Perrserker, the evolved form of Galarian Meowth, making for an intriguing rivalry.
The Alolan variant of Persian is a Dark-type, and it appears to be less charming than the original version, instead taking on a more mysterious and menacing appearance.
3. Pokemon – Snorlax

Snorlax is another well-known Pokemon feline character, distinguished by several features. To begin with, it resembles a lazy, overweight house cat in appearance. Its eyes are always shut, fitting its laid-back personality, and it boasts a round, expansive midsection. This colossal Pokemon is infamous for obstructing vast pathways when it naps. It sports dark blue-green fur overall, with cream-colored fur on its face, paws, and enormous abdomen.
Often referred to as the Sleeping Monster, Snorlax resides in mountainous regions and typically stirs only to consume an astonishing 900 lbs of food before returning to slumber. Its prodigious stomach accommodates any edibles it desires, rendering it immune to sickness from spoiled or moldy food. Remarkably, Snorlax can even eat whilst asleep. Despite its colossal size, it often tolerates children who playfully jump and bounce on its ample belly.
Snorlax isn’t merely a renowned character from Pokemon; it has also turned into a widely-purchased plush toy, often marketed as a big cuddly creature. The character was initially featured in the early episodes of the show, belonging to the first generation of Pokemon.
2. Pokemon – Solgaleo
Steel and Psychic. Interestingly, it evolves from Cosmoem when you play in the versions of the game named Sun, Sword, or Ultra Sun. The design of Solgaleo resembles a lion with a rounded snout, bright blue eyes, and a thick mane shaped like a star symbolizing the sun. Its fur is white and yellow, which reflects its solar representation perfectly. Furthermore, it can transform into a form called Radiant Sun, where an additional eye appears.
In the series, this entity is often associated with the sun and thought to exist in another realm or universe. It emits a brilliant glow when using its powers, sometimes making the dark seem like daylight. In an episode titled “Revealing The Stuff of Legend!”, Nebby, a Cosmoem character, transformed into Solgaleo at the Altar of the Sunne within the anime.
1. Pokemon – Zeraora

Zeraora, known as the Thunderclap Pokemon, belongs to the mythical category and is an Electric-type creature. This bipedal Pokemon has a feline appearance with yellow and black fur, where the thicker yellow fur creates jagged patterns that match the zigzag stripes on its limbs. Notably, it also has tufts of fur on its chest, forehead, and whiskers.
Different from other Electric-type Pokemon such as Pikachu, Zeraora usually collects electricity from external sources like power stations or lightning. This Pokemon can generate a powerful magnetic field utilizing its paw pads to produce strong electric currents. It moves at the speed of lightning and can annihilate enemies using claws laden with high voltage levels.
In the anime, Zeraora first appeared in the episode titled “The Power of Us”. The Zeraora character portrayed in this series is extremely aggressive towards humans as a result of being hunted by poachers.
