Approaching swiftly is Elden Ring Nightreign, the multiplayer spin-off from FromSoftware, but it’s important to note that this upcoming Soulsborne game can only be played solo or in three-player cooperative mode. In a recent interview, game director Junya Ishizaki expressed his sincere apologies for not including a two-player co-op option.
At launch, you won’t be able to play Elden Ring: Nightreign cooperatively with another player, but the game’s director, Ishizaki, hinted that this feature could potentially be included in a future update after the game has been released. During the development process, the team accidentally overlooked the demand for this multiplayer option.
Elden Ring Nightreign may add two-player mode
In a conversation with IGN, the game developer apologized for overlooking the inclusion of more players during development, explaining that initially it was only designed as a two-player game. They regret any inconvenience this may have caused.
The team intentionally structured the game to accommodate three-member teams, making it a key aspect and fundamental element of Nightreign. From the outset, the game was designed with this specific team size in mind and has been carefully balanced around it.
As a passionate advocate, I’m thrilled to share that we poured our heart and soul into crafting an immersive solo player experience, ensuring it was as playable as the rules and new systems would allow. However, in our dedication to this aspect, we may have unintentionally underestimated the duos experience. Rest assured, we’re actively considering and planning for improvements in this area as part of our post-launch support.
In a three-player cooperative mode, players are usually motivated to venture off independently to tackle challenges. Conversely, when playing alone, the game’s adversaries have been modified to be less active and aggressive towards a single player, preventing you from encountering unfair multi-enemy confrontations.
As a gamer, I’m thrilled to hear that Elden Ring Nightreign might see a future update adding a two-player mode! This could mean new bosses, enemies, classes, and more are on the way. FromSoftware has shared their commitment to providing plenty of post-launch content, so let’s hope that means we can look forward to larger squad sizes as well!
