Sarah Michelle Gellar Wants to Return for SCREAM 7, Even Though Her Character Died

As a movie enthusiast, I’d be remiss not to acknowledge Sarah Michelle Gellar‘s iconic status in the horror genre. It’s not just about her unforgettable role as Buffy in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” She’s also fearlessly chased ghosts as Daphne Blake in the “Scooby-Doo” films, gave us chills in “The Grudge,” and was part of the chilling ensemble in “I Know What You Did Last Summer” as Helen Shivers. In the same year, she brought Cici Cooper to life in “Scream 2,” a character that shared the screen with both Buffy and Helen from “Last Summer.” Recent reports suggest SMG is eagerly awaiting a call for Scream 7, but so far, it seems the call hasn’t come through. She recently shared her thoughts with Entertainment Tonight via Deadline:

It seems I’ve not been cast in “Scream 7.” I made an attempt to join the crew, but they weren’t interested in having me. They were bringing everyone else back. I kept hoping for a phone call, but none came. There are many characters from the Scream films who died and are now alive again. Skeet Ulrich and Matthew Lillard are among them. In essence, I’m simply waiting for my chance to be part of the franchise.

The primary explanation why Sarah isn’t being invited back is because her character met a gruesome end in the past, similar to her decision to decline a return role in the follow-up of “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” It’s puzzling that her death at the hands of a slasher in one film seems acceptable for not returning, while it’s ignored in another. One possibility is that many characters from the “Scream” franchise are previous Ghostface killers. Given this trend, it’s unlikely that “Scream 7” will revive any of the victims. However, it appears that Sarah (SMG) desires to rejoin the “Scream” universe in some manner. Could her character have a long-lost sibling? Certainly, unusual events are common within this series.
