Discover the Top 15 Chainsaw Man Characters You Can’t Miss!

Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man comic book series stands out as an unusual instance where a graphic anime gains mainstream acclaim. The tale of Denji has gained significant traction and the manga, with its initial installment wrapping up in 2020, is set to be transformed into an animated adaptation, promising a mature take while preserving much of the gore from the comic. As we edge closer to the anime release, here’s our compilation of the top Chainsaw Man characters within the franchise.

Below, you’ll discover the top 15 Chainsaw Man characters from the manga series. Since the Chainsaw Man anime hasn’t been released yet and may have differences, we’re only discussing the manga as our source material. As you read through the descriptions, you’ll understand why we ranked each character in this order.

15. Kishibe

We kick off our top picks for Chainsaw Man characters by introducing Kishibe. As the most formidable demon hunter within the organization, Kishibe is not only battle-hardened but also carries the weight of age, which has left its mark on him both physically and emotionally. His cynical demeanor mirrors a life filled with hardships. He serves as a mentor figure to Denji and Power, and in his younger days, he was connected to Quanxi. However, it’s whispered that Kishibe harbors a secret agenda against Makima behind the scenes.

14. Darkness Devil

One of the formidable devils in Chainsaw Man is known as The Darkness Devif. This powerful being debuts in the Chainsaw Manga when Denji, accompanied by other devil hunters and assassins, is taken to Hell by the Hell Devil. Later, a door in Heaven opens, and the Darkness Devif steps out, moving towards the newly transported humans.

Some opponents try to resist him, but he removes their arms using an extraordinary magical ability and makes a croaking sound like a frog. The Puppet Devil uses Tolka as a medium to ask the Chainsaw Devil for his heart in return for the power to defeat Makima. The Darkness Devil grants this request by giving a portion of its body to Tolka’s master on Earth, which she consumes.

13. Violence Fiend

The Violence Fiend, surprisingly gentle and courteous despite being a Violence Spirit, boasts colossal strength and undergoes a transformation into a more terrifying figure every time he removes his mask. Remarkably, this creature retains much of its human intellect, an anomaly among spirits.

12. Katana Man/Samurai Sword

The Swordswoman displays an unyielding self-centeredness and harshness, primarily driven by her desire for revenge against Denji, whom she believes responsible for the death of her grandfather. To achieve this objective, she is prepared to use innocent lives as pawns and even turn against her own allies, showing no qualms about harming them if it brings her closer to Denji. The Swordswoman refuses to accept Denji’s explanation that he killed her grandfather due to him being a zombie, instead labeling him a deceiver.

11. Gun Devil

As a cinema enthusiast, when summoned by the President of the United States, the Gun Devil’s form takes on an eerie, floating humanoid shape. His arms are colossal guns as big as buildings, while his skeletal structure is haphazardly filled with disconnected, shrieking heads. A massive gun barrel juts out from a skull-like visage that serves as his face. Remarkably, the Gun Devil lacks a lower body, instead sporting six lengthy, colossal ammo belts affixed to his torso.

In Gun Devil’s arms, you can see what seem to be M4 carbines as the primary weapons, yet other recognized assault rifles such as the AK-47, M16A1, and Mk18 are also present. It appears that both of his arms hold identical weaponry. The head of Gun Devil resembles a large M1911 slide and barrel, minus the hammer, while any firearms on his back remain unidentifiable.

10. Santa Claus

Moving forward in our list of top Chainsaw Man characters, we encounter Santa Claus, who is one of the assassins pursuing Denji. Initially portrayed as a German elderly man, it’s eventually disclosed that Santa Claus represents multiple individuals, with the actual physical form being a Russian woman known as “the teacher” by her student Tolka. She also transforms Tolka into her body. The real teacher is bound to the Demon Doll and possesses the power to convert people into dolls under her control, which then become part of Santa Claus’s hive consciousness.

In a cunning scheme, Santa Claus orchestrates a plan to send Denji and a group of hunters down to the underworld as offerings to the Demon of Darkness, in hopes of gaining the power to slay Makima. However, a fiery Denji manages to overcome her, and in an unexpected turn of events, the Demon of the Cosmos, one of Quanxi’s lovers, annihilates her consciousness.

9. Pochita

Instead of typical devils, Pochita exclusively used barks and whines, much like a regular canine. But after uniting with Denji, he began conversing with him mentally. He consistently speaks with Denji in his dreams, often urging caution against ‘opening the door’.

Pochita held a profound affection towards Denji following the human’s act of saving his life, even though most devils harbor intense disdain for humanity. In return for this kindness, Pochita willingly offered Denji his heart, hoping that it would help Denji achieve his dreams – dreams that Pochita always took delight in hearing about.

In his true demonic appearance, Pochita exhibits an erratic character, as demonstrated by his readiness to kill anyone even slightly hostile towards him in the burger shop. Yet, later on, Pochita confides in Denji that he’s yearned for a loving embrace all along, but his immense power has hindered him from doing so. This hints that Pochita’s violent outburst at the burger joint might have been unintentional due to his difficulty in managing his strength amid other beings.

8. Angel Devil

It is said that the Devil’s final recollection occurred at the edge of a coastal village, where he encountered a group of compassionate individuals who accepted and nurtured him, despite his being a devil. Within this community, there were rumors of him having a romantic relationship with a young lady.

Later on, the community and his presumed partner visited a beach. Unexpectedly, Makima appeared and requested to witness his devil abilities. Despite his refusal, she persisted and commanded him to demonstrate them. Some time later, he regained consciousness and consumed the lives of the entire village.

In chapter 74, Angel Devil is reminded of his past following Makima’s command to Aki to enter a contract. Subsequently, he expends ten years of his vitality to forge a weapon intended to attack Makima, but she merely utters “Down,” causing Angel Devil to collapse. Bending down beside him, Makima demands that he surrender all he has. Under the influence of her mind control abilities, Angel Devil submits to being Makima’s servant and carries out her instructions.

7. Reze

At the outset, Reze appears as a sweet and tender young lady, quickly developing feelings for Denji shortly after their encounter. Reze finds humor in his jokes and has no qualms about approaching him or getting close to him romantically.

Initially, it appears that Reze’s behavior around Denji is genuine, with reactions like blushing in his presence. However, it’s later revealed that this facade is a strategy she uses to get closer to him. The military training she underwent from childhood has made her react this way, not out of affection but as part of her tactics. Despite fighting in a manipulative manner, Reze doesn’t take pleasure in killing or causing harm. Instead, she tries to avoid it unless it’s essential for her mission.

At the café where she’s employed, Reze often displays disregard towards the owner, addressing him as miserly due to his habit of reducing her wages.

6. Kobeni Higashiyama

Kobeni Higashiyama exhibits an unusually timid nature, only rarely displaying acts of bravery. Her initial encounter with the Eternity Devil leaves her frozen with fear and struggling to speak coherently. Throughout the story, Kobeni Higashiyama is depicted as crumbling under stress, shedding tears when the group finds themselves trapped in a hotel and faces the grim reality that they may not be rescued, potentially starving to death.

In times of fear, Kobeni Higashiyama resorts to extreme actions to safeguard herself. This escalates to the point where she confronts Denji with a knife, all because a devil proposed freeing her in return for Denji’s life. Suspecting Hirokazu Arai of being a devil spy due to his support of Power amidst Kobeni’s irrational accusations, she later regretted her behavior and expressed gratitude towards Hirokazu for shielding her during the attack.

5. Aki Hayakawa

As we near the upper echelons of our favorite Chainsaw Man characters, let’s talk about Aki Hayakawa. This public safety demon hunter operates under Makima’s team. What sets Aki apart is his unique abilities. He has entered into contracts with both the Fox Demon and the Cursed Demon. This gives him the power to summon the head of the former, and wield a deadly pickaxe at the expense of his lifespan. In a later development, he even makes a pact with the Demon of the Future, granting him a glimpse into the next few seconds.

Aki displays an air of calm maturity and reliability, yet harbors a tender heart when he’s by himself. Despite their initial encounters, he develops deep feelings for Denji and Power. Tragically, during the confrontation between Makima and the Gun Demon, Aki meets his end. His spirit transforms into the Gun Fiend, compelling Denji to take his life.

4. Quanxi

Known as the initial Devil Hunter, Quanxi is a renowned Chinese figure in the field of devil hunting. Over the course of his career as a devil hunter, he earned the title ‘First Devil Hunter’. In the early stages of his life, Quanxi crossed paths with Kishibe. Their first encounter resulted in Kishibe proposing marriage to her, to which she swiftly responded by delivering a blow. Instead of saying “She immediately rejected him by striking him a blow,” you could say “She quickly turned down his proposal with a firm rebuke.

The event occurred multiple times before, nine years post their initial encounter, Quanxi admitted her interest in females. Afterward, she abandoned her position as a devil hunter and relocated to China. In China, she amassed a group of villains while still serving China.

3. Power

In Makima’s team, Power serves both as a Blood Demon and a Public Safety Demon Hunter. She presents herself as a youthful female with long flowing hair. As a demon, she sports short, fiery red horns jutting from her head. Power is fond of violence, exhibiting immature and selfish tendencies, often driven solely by her own desires. She doesn’t hesitate to inflict harm on others for her own gratification. Power cherishes her feline companion, Meowy, so much that she’s prepared to give up Denji’s life to save him.

She grows incredibly attached to Denji and Aki, her genuine friends for the first time. Makima ends her life in front of Denji, aiming to shatter his spirit. However, Power resurrects due to Denji’s Blood Demon nature. Once more, Makima gravely injures her. On her deathbed, Power strikes a deal with Denji; In return for his blood, she requests that he locate the reborn Blood Demon and transform back into her Power, so they can be friends again.

2. Makima

As a seasoned movie critic, I found myself utterly captivated by the enigmatic character of Makima, the seemingly benevolent leader of Division 4 within Public Safety. In an unexpected turn of events, she acquires Denji as her… unconventional companion. Makima, with her wit, intellect, and knack for manipulation, exerts a firm grip over Denji, leveraging his infatuation towards her by dangling the carrot of a romantic liaison, while simultaneously brandishing the stick of elimination should he dare to defy her. For the majority of the narrative, Makima’s true intentions remain shrouded in mystery, leaving viewers questioning her altruism.

Makima’s true identity is unveiled as the Demon of Control, personifying the dread of domination, who intends to manipulate the Chainsaw Man, whom she harbors affection for, to fashion a world devoid of pain. In furtherance of this objective, she orchestrates the hardships that Denji experiences throughout the storyline. Following her demise at Denji’s hands, she is reincarnated as a girl named Nayuta, whom she then vows to nurture and guide toward becoming a more virtuous individual.

1. Denji

As a die-hard cinema enthusiast, let me tell you this: The standout character on my personal favorite Chainsaw Man roster is none other than Denji himself! This young chap with unruly blonde locks, piercing yellowish-brown eyes that seem to have seen too much, and a set of sharp teeth that could give any predator a run for its money – he’s got quite the unique charm.

You see, when his dad passed away, Denji inherited the debt owed to the yakuza. But fate had something else in store for him when he crossed paths with Pochita, the chainsaw-wielding demon. That encounter transformed Denji into a demon hunter, and now he’s on a mission to clear that debt once and for all.

Following his brutal murder at the hands of the yakuza, Pochita takes over as Denji’s heart, forging a pact that grants Denji the chance to fulfill his aspirations for a regular life. Equipped with this newfound ability, Denji can morph into the half-demon, half-human being called Chainsaw Man by triggering the chain attached to his chest. After crossing paths with Makima, he joins the ranks of Public Safety Demon Hunters in an attempt to maintain a semblance of humanity. However, it is his infatuation with Makima that primarily drives him.
