Looking back, the writer of the trilogy has shared insights into the original plans for the films, revealing that the Joker actually played a significant role in The Dark Knight Rises, making the trilogy even more intriguing and captivating.
According to a recent statement, David Goyer, one of the writers for the trilogy and collaborator with the director of “The Prestige,” expressed a desire for a larger role for the Joker character in “The Dark Knight Rises.” This idea was actually incorporated into the initial script for the film.
As per the author’s account, the initial concept for the trilogy envisioned Harvey Dent, also known as Two-Face, as a villain in the third movie. On the other hand, the Joker was slated to play a pivotal role in “The Dark Knight,” where he would have squared off against Batman exclusively. This one-on-one encounter would have tested Batman’s patience and exacerbated his growing frustration.
According to Fortress, this strategy was already in place prior to the main filming of The Dark Knight. Regarding The Dark Knight Rises, introducing a more lethal adversary like Bane, it would have provided an opportunity for the Joker to cause more chaos once more.
Initially, the film’s plot centered around the Joker attempting to influence Dent following his trial for past misdeeds, with a focus on how the Joker was gradually corrupting him.
Nevertheless, the third installment, The Dark Knight Rises, continued to captivate audiences and provided a fitting culmination to the trilogy by Christopher Nolan.
Apart from Bale and Ledger, the trilogy also showcased the skills of Cillian Murphy as the Scarecrow, Liam Neeson as Ra’s al Ghul, and Marion Cotillard portraying his daughter Talia al Ghul. Aaron Eckhart took on the role of Two-Face, while Gary Oldman played James Gordon, and Morgan Freeman starred as Lucius Fox.
