One day, an unexpected transformation occurs, leaving Taki and Mitsuha in different bodies. Later, when Taki returns to his original body, he plans a visit to meet Mitshua in hers.
In a restaurant, the owner identifies a drawing by Taki as the town of Itomori, which was devastated by a comet collision. This revelation leads Taki to discover that Mitsuha’s experiences took place three years in the past, and she did not survive. Determined to prevent the same fate, Taki makes an effort to reach out to Mitsuha to alert her about the incoming comet. Successfully connecting with her, he encourages Mitsuha, along with friends Tessie and Sayaka, to evacuate Itomori as a result of his warning.

She swam her way up to the surface, finding refuge beneath the shield of a jellyfish’s umbrella-like protector.
Gazing at the wonders of the earth, she spotted from afar Sôsuké, a boy similar to her age, dwelling on a cliffside home, venturing into a cavern with his toy watercraft. All of a sudden, she was taken aback as a fishing boat, laden with trash in its net, appeared before her, trapping her inside a glass jar.

Original Release: May 9, 2015
Running Time: 90 minutes
The movie opens in Edo, 1814, amidst the Edo Period. One of four daughters of renowned painter Tetsuzo, later known as Hokusai, is named Ō-Ei. This film unfolds during a time when Ō-Ei is maturing, while her father (aged fifty) has already garnered national acclaim as an artist. The studio they share is quite run-down.
1. For dinner, she visits her mom’s place, but spends nights at the studio.
2. Tetsuzo is renowned for his artistic abilities, particularly his renderings of the Great Bodhidharma and a pair of sparrows on a single grain of rice.
3. Ō-Ei inherits her father’s gift and endurance. She frequently paints at her workstation without affixing her signature to her pieces so she can fulfill commissioned works. Unfortunately, her work goes unacknowledged.
As a cinema enthusiast, let me share my perspective on this captivating film. It skillfully weaves the tale of Ō-Ei and her father’s life, intertwining it with the presence of visiting artists, such as Zenjirō Ikeda (Keisai Eisen), who would later gain fame for his works in Bijin-ga and Kuninao Utagawa. The narrative frequently delves into Japanese mythology and Japan’s rich Buddhist culture, offering a unique blend of historical context and artistic expression.

The band of tanukis uses their deceptive skills to undermine human workplaces, resulting in injuries and, tragically, some fatalities among workers. Prior to Madoka making up her mind, Mami meets her end at the hands of a witch, leaving Madoka in a state of fear and indecision about joining the ranks of magical girls. Meanwhile, Kyoko yearns for a chance, hoping that it might allow Sayaka to regain her humanity and bring Madoka along with her on this journey.

In Mitakihara, Madoka and their magical counterparts resurface, engaging in battles against new entities spawned from human negativity, called “Nightmares”. Yet, they seem to have forgotten past events. However, Homura senses an oddity and delves into an investigation. Eventually, she regains her lost memories and comprehends that they are all confined within an alternate reality, enclosed by a witch’s protective barrier.
As a film enthusiast, I’ve come to understand that the witch could be someone else, perhaps even an entity, or it might just be me. Intriguingly, Kyubey shows up, and he discloses a startling revelation: I had succumbed to despair, teetering on the brink of becoming a witch. To ensnare Madoka and seize control over the Law of Cycles, they confined my Soul Gem, manipulating it as a trap.
When Madoka emerges, she overlooks her responsibilities, like her vast power of the Law of Cycles, causing Kyubey to monitor her closely. With her memories restored, Homura feels compelled to undergo her transformation into a witch, sacrificing her soul in order to shield Madoka from the incubators. At this point, Sayaka and a newcomer named Nagisa Momoe, who accompanied Madoka to aid Homura, whisk Madoka and the rest away to battle. Their goal is to shatter the boundary and reach Homura’s true form.
Madoka recovers her abilities and memories through the Law of Cycles, then attacks Homura. However, as the final blows of the curse strike her Soul Gem, it becomes clear that the power isn’t despair, but love. This newfound strength enables Homura to overpower Madoka’s abilities, transforming herself into a formidable entity beyond what a magical girl or witch can be. She now identifies herself as a demon and a being capable of destroying a deity.
Thus, Homura seizes Kyubey and alters the cosmic rules, fashioning a tranquil realm for Madoka to dwell. However, in the end, she acknowledges that Madoka may recall the truth and potentially turn adversarial.

As a devoted admirer, let me share an intriguing perspective: The creator behind Project Z, an extraordinary automaton, is employed within the US’s security forces and has been tasked with designing this device as a potential military prototype. Interestingly, the pod housing Mr. Takazawa mysteriously establishes a connection with Haruko, adopting the persona of his late wife, adding layers of emotion to this captivating tale.
