The tale of Pennywise the Clown’s beginnings is set to arrive on HBO Max (yes, it’s that name again), courtesy of It: Welcome to Derry. In its inaugural season, we will journey through time to uncover the roots of the eerie events that haunted a town’s young ones. If the teaser for Welcome to Derry is any hint, it seems we are in store for a chilling return to 1962.
This current season forms part of a pre-planned trilogy, with the next two seasons delving into the past, specifically the years 1935 and 1908. Consequently, it’s expected that we’ll be left with many unanswered questions by the end of this season.
We’ll need to keep our fingers crossed that Warner Bros. doesn’t halt the show before it finishes its narrative arc. Despite our reservations, we are cautiously excited for It: Welcome to Derry based on the trailer alone. The storyline appears to revolve around a new family settling in Derry, Maine, where children are mysteriously disappearing at an alarming rate. At first glance, the neighbors seem unfriendly, which might lead one to suspect racism given the town’s predominantly white population and the arrival of a Black family. However, it soon becomes apparent that there’s more to this story than just racial tensions; the underlying mysteries are yet to be fully uncovered.
A handful of brave teenagers start suspecting that killings might be behind these enigmas, but they’re warned off meddling. Events become increasingly eerie and spine-tingling, culminating in a chilling reveal of Pennywise towards the end. Excellent material!
