Back in 1995, who would have thought that the initial release of “Toy Story” in cinemas would leave such an immense cultural footprint? Young adults, or millennials as we know them now, developed a strong affection for the tale of Andy and his collection of toys, featuring characters like Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie, and many others. As we approach three decades since its premiere, preparations are underway for a fifth installment in this enduring series. What can we expect from this new movie, and who will be the voice talents joining us on this fresh journey? Well, we do have some news – Conan O’Brien is set to join the cast of “Toy Story 5” as a brand-new character called Smarty Pants.
As reported by Deadline, it was announced by Disney and Pixar during their Consumer Products segment at Disney’s Licensing Expo presentation held in May 2025.
On his own Instagram account, O’Brien enthusiastically shared the news in a video post. “Wow, isn’t that incredible? A legendary film series,” he exclaimed. “The movies are outstanding; I still can’t believe it!
Always cracking jokes, he playfully suggested that he aspired to portray Woody, a role that undeniably and eternally belongs to Tom Hanks. Similarly, Buzz Lightyear has been and remains synonymous with Tim Allen, though Chris Evans provided the voice in the 2022 movie titled “Lightyear.
In Toy Story 5, Buzz, Woody, and Jessie may struggle to keep children’s focus away from modern gadgets like smartphones and online platforms such as social media and YouTube. It’s quite timely in today’s fast-paced world. I’m really excited about Conan O’Brien lending his energetic voice to the movie, playing Smarty Pants. It’ll be a blast for us all. We’re thrilled he’s found a role in this new adventure.
