It might be shocking to note that the number of villains with dark skin tones seems relatively low in comparison. On the contrary, there’s an abundance of black superheroes making their mark. This compilation, however, focuses on malevolent characters who either possess dark complexions or frequently don black attire to symbolize their wickedness.
35. Gamer/ Max Kante (Miraculous Ladybug)
In reality, he’s among Marinette’s close circle of friends. During a school-organized video game tournament, he became akumatized and transformed into Gamer due to his loss. This transformation granted him the ability to command colossal combat robots. Nevertheless, when Ladybug and Cat Noir successfully vanquish him, he reverts back to Max once more.
Max got reakumatized to Gamer 2.0. In his new form, he is able to create realistic video games.
34. Shadow (Sonic the Hedgehog)
Shadow is often recognized as Sonic’s counterpart, sharing many similarities with the blue hedgehog. Unlike his vibrant appearance, Shadow has black fur with distinctive red accents. While not strictly a villain, Shadow leans more towards being an anti-hero, yet he has taken on the role of the main antagonist in various games. Despite potentially posing a threat to Sonic, Shadow frequently assists in furthering Sonic’s mission to protect humanity.
33. Scar (Full Metal Alchemist)
In the anime series and manga, the identity of this character remains unknown, yet he’s consistently called “Scar.” He serves as a serial killer with a vendetta, targeting State Alchemists in retribution for the fallen comrades during the Ishvalan Civil War. Contrary to his belief that alchemy is wicked, Scar employs it as his preferred method of dispatching State Alchemists.
32. Mor’du (Brave)

Given that Shadow appears on our list, it would be inconsistent to disregard other animals with dark fur. Mor’du, a colossal black bear, plays the villain in the Pixar movie Brave. He is a notorious bear who has instilled fear across the dominion of King Fergus.
It seems that Mor’du wasn’t born as a fearsome beast; initially, he was a selfish human prince who aspired to seize the throne without sharing it with his brothers. In search of power, he approached a witch. The enchantment she cast upon him transformed him into a bear, and this new form led him to commit a terrible crime against his own family. With no surviving relatives to govern the kingdom, it eventually crumbled. Over time, Mor’du’s bearish nature prevailed, causing him to dwell in the forest for countless centuries.
At the conclusion of Brave, Mor’du is vanquished by Merida and her kin. At last, his trapped human essence is liberated, and with a grateful gesture towards Merida, he departs for the hereafter.
31. Iceberg/ Charles Murray (DC)

30. Teddy Bomber/ Ted Brower (Cowboy Bebop)

In Cowboy Bebop, this bounty character serves as an activist-turned-terrorist who derives pleasure from the explosions he sets off. He employs explosive devices designed like teddy bears to demolish capitalistic icons. While he justifies his bombings with political motives, it appears that seeking attention is also a driving factor for him. This becomes evident when Spike and Andy frequently quarrel and fight among themselves, leaving the character agitated that no one seems to be challenging or stopping him anymore.
29. Lady Wifi/ Alya Cesaire (Miraculous Ladybug)

It’s truly disheartening to see your closest friend transform into an antagonist. In this case, Alya Cesaire morphs into Lady Wifi. As Lady Wifi, her powers stem from her smartphone and its Wi-fi emissions, symbolizing Alya’s constant use of her phone for managing her Ladyblog. Her transformation into LadyWife might be a result of the rage she experienced due to Chloe Bourgeois causing her school suspension.
As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but share an intriguing piece of my gaming world. This character didn’t just get transformed once, but she found herself in the same predicament again, this time alongside her boyfriend, Nino. Together, we morphed into the sinister Super Villain known as Oblivio, a formidable foe with the power to wipe out memories.
28. Riku (Kingdom Hearts)

In a twist of events, not every hero treads a straightforward path. While Sora’s comrade, Riku, is exceptional, there was a phase when he sided with the villains. Their competition has always been palpable, and under Maleficent’s sway, Riku grew envious to the point of betraying his own companions. This envy and treachery led him to create a gateway for Ansem, the Seeker of Darkness, to possess him. It was during this period that we often saw Riku dressed in dark attire.
Following the occurrences in the initial installment of Kingdom Hearts, Riku undergoes personal growth and embraces the duality within him, accepting both light and darkness. This acceptance results in him obtaining his own Keyblade, aligning himself with Sora in their joint battles.

In the end, it was Big Hero 6 who managed to apprehend him and send him off to prison.
In the game Kingdom Hearts 3, he reappears as the antagonist. Subsequently, he’s metamorphosed into the Youkai known as Darkheart. Nevertheless, his villainous plans are thwarted by Sora and his companions, along with the Big Hero 6 team.
26. Sphinx/ Anath-Na Mut (Marvel)

As a gamer, I’d rephrase that as follows:
“In an ancient tale, I was once a powerful wizard serving Pharaoh Ramses II of Egypt. Unbeknownst to many, I was actually a mutant from bygone eras. My magic skills were no match for Moses’, and the pharaoh, disappointed, banished me from his court.
Wandering aimlessly through the deserts, I stumbled upon the mystical Ka Stone. With it attached to my brow, the stone granted me enhanced powers and immortality, transforming me into the enigmatic Sphinx.

23. Lee Sampson (Cowboy Bebop: The Movie)

This individual is deeply involved in gaming and tends to approach situations as if they’re part of a game’s challenge, including terrorism. He teamed up with Vincent Volaju when the chance arose for him to aid Volaju in becoming a terrorist. The prospect of turning into a villain appealed to Sampson, so he accepted and functioned as Volaju’s primary hacker. A reward was placed on his head, leading Faye Valentine to pursue him using his credit card trail. Yet, he successfully eluded capture.
His career came to an end because Volaju eventually betrayed him.
22. Mina (Black Butler)

Originally, she was an Indian woman married to Soma Saman Kadar, but later on, she divorced him to marry Harold West Jeb, who was quite wealthy. Many people seemed to love Mina, claiming that she genuinely cared for her husband when his parents neglected him. By the end of the episode, it’s suggested that Ran-Mao may have murdered both her and her new husband.
21. Yzma (Emperor’s New Groove)

Indeed, Yzma’s attire leans more towards purple, yet it appears somewhat black in certain areas. However, it’s important to note that Yzma is the main antagonist in The Emperor’s New Groove. Originally, the storyline was intended to be darker, but due to some directorial changes, Yzma evolved into a humorous villain instead. Over the years, she served as Kuzco’s advisor and family chemist, raising him within the household. Her turn against Kuzco occurred when he decided to dismiss her from her position.

However, his plan was foiled by Aladdin, who deceived him into wishing himself into a genie, thereby trapping himself instead.
In my gaming world, I’ve come across Jafar, who’s no stranger to causing trouble in various Kingdom Hearts adventures. He seems to be right under Maleficent’s wing, serving as her second-in-command, making him a formidable adversary indeed!
19. Cyborgirl/LeTonya Charles (DC)

Because of using the drug Tar, LeTonya tragically damaged her own physical form. Yet, one of her aunts provided her with a replacement body equipped with cybernetic enhancements. Unlike the Teen Titans’ Cyborg, who chose to use his advanced body for good, LeTonya opted to employ her newfound powers for malicious purposes. Consequently, she has transformed into a persistent foe that Wonder Woman frequently encounters.
She enlisted in the Cyber Retaliation Team, taking on cyborgs directly. Unfortunately, despite her efforts, the final confrontation resulted in her being overcome.

Interestingly, the first Homunculus didn’t take the form we typically see, but rather began as a black orb created from the blood of Van Hohenheim. Over time, this orb developed a bond with Hohenheim and imparted various knowledge to him.
In the flask, a deceitful object convinced King Xerxes to commit genocide against an entire species, thus granting eternal life not only to Hohenheim but also to the orb itself. Over time, this cunning Homunculus transformed into the main antagonist known as Father.
16. Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty & Kingdom Hearts)

In the tale of Sleeping Beauty, she plays the role of the adversary, becoming a well-known, sinister character in Disney productions. Because of her famous status as a villain in Disney, she resurfaces as one of the primary antagonists in the Kingdom Hearts series. Unlike other villains who stay within the realm where they are encountered, Maleficent moves about and creates chaos across multiple realms.
15. Dabi/ Toya Todoroki (My Hero Academia)

It turned out to be true that everyone had assumed – Dabi was indeed Toya Todoroki, the eldest child of the renowned Pro Hero Endeavor. Subsequently, Dabi joined the League of Villains and eventually rose to influential positions within the Paranormal Liberation Front.
People thought it was true, but now we know that Dabi is Toya Todoroki, Endeavor’s eldest son. However, because he felt ignored by his father, he chose a life of crime. Afterward, he joined the League of Villains and later became a leader in the Paranormal Liberation Front.

Unfortunately, while she was gone, the enemy launched an assault on her father’s camp, leaving many of his soldiers dead; he barely escaped with his life.
After falling out of her father’s grace, she fled yet chose to persist in her transformation into the formidable tool of mischief that her upbringing had intended.
Or more concisely:

12. Princess Zanda (Marvel)

In a simplified and natural manner: She is the leader of the African country Narobia, amassing wealth and influence by acquiring unique artifacts. At one stage, she kept the Black Panther locked up in her palace and coerced him into obtaining a waterskin that would bestow eternal life upon her.
Although she had never been romantically involved with T’Challa, a strong feeling of envy arose in her when she found out he was going to marry Storm. In response, she decided to travel to New York and began spreading rumors that she herself would become T’Challa’s wife.

As a follower with a keen interest in the animal kingdom tales, let me share my perspective: Initially, I was destined to be the ruler of the Pride Lands, being Mufasa’s brother. But fate had a different plan with the arrival of Simba, Mufasa’s son. The loss of my throne ignited an intense envy within me towards Simba and even bred a deep-seated hatred for Mufasa.
Following Mufasa’s murder, Scar successfully made Simba believe that he was responsible for his father’s demise by manipulating him with guilt. Overwhelmed by shame, Simba fled to a forested part of the Pride Lands, choosing to live there with friends Timon and Pumbaa instead.
In the meantime, Scar goes back to the pride and shares the news that both Mufasa and Simba have passed away. He then maintains control over the Pride Lands for several years. Later on, when Simba has grown up, he comes back to Pride Rock to confront Scar in a deadly battle to claim the Pride Lands.

In essence, Goku Black might look like Goku, but he’s actually a different character – Zamasu from another universe. You may know him better as just “Black”. During the Future Trunks Saga in Dragon Ball Super, he played the role of the main villain. Originally, Zamasu was a peaceful kai who obeyed his master.
Yet, his heart brimmed with intense disdain towards humanity, finding it incomprehensible why other Kais continued to coexist with them. Eventually, he resolved to rectify what he perceived as a divine error by eliminating his mentor, transforming into Goku Black, and ultimately seeking the eradication of all humans.
9. Zeref (Fairy Tail)

In simpler terms, Zeref is Natsu’s elder sibling and a formidable adversary who engaged in battle with Fairy Tail. Known as one of the most potent mages ever, he also established his own kingdom populated by powerful magic users. These individuals were eventually positioned against other mages across Fiore.
Because of his affliction, Zeref maintains an appearance that is young and vibrant. Prior to meeting Mavis, he chose solitude to ensure his curse wouldn’t affect other living beings. He crafted Natsu specifically to destroy him, as his curse prevents him from taking direct action against the individual. However, fate brought Zeref across paths with Mavis, who was a unique girl who approached the enigmatic mage despite being aware of his curse. In time, he agreed to instruct her and her comrades in the art of magic. Years down the line, they would be seen as adversaries during a great conflict.
8. Sephiroth (Final Fantasy 7)

In summary, Sephiroth serves as the main adversary in Final Fantasy 7, and he’s also portrayed as a villain in Kingdom Hearts and Dissidia. Furthermore, Sephiroth stands as a reminder of Cloud’s past that torments him.
Though he’s no longer the central villain, he presents challenges for the heroes in Dissidia. In the original Kingdom Hearts, he serves as an optional adversary you can battle within the Olympus Coliseum. In the sequel, his role is more supportive within the storyline.

Since then, this symbiote has been known to move between hosts frequently.
In time, Spider-Man comes across him, and a connection is established. But as soon as Spider-Man realizes the suit is alive, he gets rid of it. Later, this symbiote bonds with Eddie Brock, a man who loathes Spider-Man, leading to the creation of Venom, the notorious supervillain we know today.

4. Darth Vader (Star Wars)

It’s likely that Darth Vader contributed significantly to the common portrayal of black as symbolizing evil in popular culture, given his iconic status as a villain in history. However, he was lured towards darkness by Darth Sidious who persuaded Anakin to embrace Sith Lordship, eventually adopting the name Darth Vader.
In a fierce confrontation with his former mentor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin suffered grave wounds. To live on, he was transformed into a cybernetic organism (cyborg). Tragically, Vader met his end during these events.

Currently, he engages in conflicts against Shazam, as he believes that whoever wields the power doesn’t deserve it. However, DC later altered this narrative. In the revised account of his background, Black Adam is no longer solely a villain but rather an Anti-hero who strives to clear his name and establish his own justice.
2. Black Manta (Aquaman)

In various DC comics, Black Manta is often portrayed as a supervillain who frequently clashes with Aquaman. His backstory has undergone multiple revisions and retellings. One account suggests that Black Manta was originally a young boy who was abducted by pirates. Another narrative paints him as an autistic child who was repeatedly subjected to experiments at Arkham Asylum.
In various tales, it’s been explained that he became an adult antagonist seeking revenge on Aquaman, following his father’s demise at the hands of the Sea King. Yet, regardless of their contrasting natures, certain aspects remain consistent. Black Manta is consistently portrayed as a malevolent underwater adversary, proficient in wielding advanced armor, adorned with a helmet featuring glowing red eyes.
In the course of their battle, it emerged that Black Manta is dark-skinned and his struggle against Aquaman stems from a desire for black communities to dominate underwater realms, as they have historically faced oppression on dry land.
1. Erik Killmonger (Black Panther)

We can discuss Erik Killmonger, focusing on his version in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for clarity. Born with roots in Wakanda, Erik’s lineage traces back to Prince N’Jobu, T’Chaka’s brother and the rightful heir before him. As a child, Erik witnessed T’Chaka kill his father, N’Jobu, due to N’Jobu’s betrayal of Wakanda. This tragic event fueled Erik’s desire to overthrow T’Challa from the throne and ascend as king himself. However, he harbors a deep-seated belief that his father should have reigned instead, driven by his dream to uplift people of African descent.
He finds a way into Wakanda by bringing the body of Ulysses Klaue, a fugitive wanted for stealing Wakanda’s precious vibranium. Upon entering Wakanda, he confronts his cousin T’Challa for both the powers and title of Black Panther. It appears that he kills T’Challa and takes over as king. As ruler, he was planning to distribute vibranium weapons worldwide to War Dogs, who would then hand them out to people of African descent.
