Director Dan Trachtenberg rejuvenated the Predator franchise when his movie Prey premiered on Hulu a few years ago. Now, it appears that Trachtenberg has assumed an unofficial role as the guardian of the long-standing sci-fi series from Twentieth Century Studios. Besides directing Predator: Badlands, set to release this summer, he is also co-directing with Joshua Wassung the animated anthology Predator: Killer of Killers. This upcoming film, due out this summer as well, will showcase various tales about the ruthless alien hunter arriving on Earth and facing powerful adversaries throughout history. The new trailer, which you can view below, seems to be quite graphic in terms of gore and violence.
Here’s the official synopsis from Hulu for Predator: Killer of Killers:
This anthology narrative focuses on three formidable historical figures: a Viking warrior leading her son on a vengeful, violent crusade, a ninja in feudal Japan who rebels against his Samurai sibling in a fierce struggle for power, and a WWII aviator who ascends to combat an extraordinary menace threatening the Allied forces. However, despite these warriors being lethal entities themselves, they become targets for their latest adversary – the deadliest slayer of all.
It’s been revealed that the Predator species had Earth under surveillance for a considerable amount of time, even before the events depicted in the 1987 movie. In fact, it appears they have been engaging our most formidable warriors in combat as a pastime for over a millennium. Since the Predators only fight powerful opponents, this suggests that we must be quite impressive in their eyes, although whether that’s a positive or negative assessment is debatable. An interesting tidbit: “Killer of Killers” features Michael Biehn, known for his roles in “Terminator” and “Aliens,” lending his voice to the production. Now he’s associated with all three of the iconic R-rated ’80s sci-fi franchises, which is quite a feat!
The predator, known as a “Slayer of Slayers,” makes its grand debut on Hulu on June 6. This premiere could potentially spark an exciting new chapter in the legendary series with an animated spin-off.
