Just a few days ago, I shared with you the exciting development by a modder named ColdTyrant who created an everlasting system for Oblivion Remastered’s Dark Brotherhood, incorporating a Hitman Freelancer-style contracts mode and gacha rewards. Well, it’s no longer fresh news – ColdTyrant has come back with Thieves Guild – Infinitum, offering the same innovative approach for the Thieves Guild led by Gray Fox.
Just as with DB quests, this system generates quests similar to the radiant missions in Skyrim, where you can take on Special Requests to steal particular items across Cyrodiil. ColdTyrant proudly presents “100 quests that can be repeated endlessly, with random selections for obtaining specific items for secret clients.
The gameplay resembles the Dark Brotherhood mod quite closely. You find contracts inside envelopes on a newly added table in Dareloth’s Garden, then you embark on missions to retrieve specified items. Upon completing your task and depositing your earnings into a designated box, you receive a reward in gold (ranging up to level 30) as well as some Fox’s Favor points, which is a new type of currency introduced in the game.
Unlike the Brotherhood mod where you utilize its specific tokens for its gacha system, you can trade Fox’s Favors to access services from the Thieves Guild, such as clearing your bounty and infamy, obtaining lockpicks, or acquiring special equipment.
In simpler terms, I truly appreciate the concepts embedded in these modifications. As I delve back into Oblivion, I believe one often-overlooked factor contributing to the lasting fondness for the Thieves’ Guild and Dark Brotherhood is the abundance of quests set in the game’s busy mechanical cities. These are cities where legitimate guilds frequently dispatch you on missions to caves and ruins that are mostly devoid of interest beyond their monster inhabitants. Instead, it’s much more enjoyable to infiltrate a store when the proprietor is asleep upstairs, rather than continuously explore another abandoned fortress. Modifications like these allow you to keep engaging in such experiences endlessly.
Still, if you prefer the legal guild quests to continue indefinitely, ColdTyrant offers suitable solutions: Arena – Infinitum and Fighter’s Guild – Infinitum serve similar purposes for these two factions, allowing you to engage in new quests continually instead of reaching a conclusion upon becoming guildmaster. Quite impressive for a game without official mod support.
