Assassin’s Creed: Shadows has significantly contributed to Ubisoft, yet its latest earnings report indicates it didn’t quite manage to pull them out of a challenging period. The newest installment in Ubisoft’s leading series was postponed multiple times for additional development time, which appears to have been beneficial, enhancing the game’s influence and feedback. As a result, Ubisoft is trying to replicate this strategy.
As an enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that, after thoroughly examining our upcoming projects, our esteemed CEO, Yves Guillemot, has made the wise decision to grant extra development hours to some of our flagship productions. This move is designed to foster the ideal environment for achieving unparalleled success!
Consequently, some highly anticipated Ubisoft titles will experience delays in their scheduled releases, with the financial years 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 seeing a surge of major content from our most prominent brands.
These are expected to be new installments in the Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six game franchises.
Guillemot called the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows earlier this year “a defining moment.”
He noted that the strength of the Assassin’s Creed brand was clearly demonstrated, receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback not just from veteran fans but also from newcomers.
Guillemot highlighted that Ubisoft finished their stringent cost-reduction plan earlier than expected; however, they aim to make additional cost savings in the upcoming two years. As a result, the possibility of job cuts may continue to loom over the company’s employees in the future.
Previously this year, Ubisoft unveiled plans for a fresh branch of their company specifically designed for producing Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six titles in the upcoming years. This new venture will pay royalties to the parent company, which will retain all intellectual property rights. The Chinese gaming colossus Tencent will acquire 25% of the developing firm, investing a substantial €1.16 billion EUR.
Ubisoft expects to complete this split-up by the end of 2025.
