Owlcat reveals Overseer class for Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader – Lex Imperialis

Owlcat Games is gearing up for the launch of the upcoming DLC called Lex Imperialis, which is destined for Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader. They’ve unveiled the fresh character archetypes and origins that will be featured in this expansion.

Players can opt for a fresh character type called an Overseer, who assumes a supportive role in the game. Their unique trait is their capacity to summon familiars onto the battlefield, which aid in balancing encounters against hordes of adversaries. Unlike controlling these allies as separate party members, players will issue commands to them via the Overseer’s abilities.

As a fan, I’d put it this way: I’ve discovered that The Overseer is an advanced role that my character can take on, given they have either the Officer or Operative Tier 1 archetypes. However, there are alternative paths to unlocking this role – by choosing the Sanctioned Psyker, Unsanctioned Psyker, or Arbites origins.

The type of access method your character uses determines which companion they’ll have, such as Arbites getting a cyber-mastiff, Psykers a psyber-raven, and Officers/Operatives a cyber-eagle or servo-skull swarm. Generally speaking, most of the Overseer’s skills are geared towards enhancing their companion or improving their own abilities.

In simple terms, Owlcat has assured us that there’s no cap on the number of Overseers players can have in their party, meaning it’s possible to effectively lead a large group through Lex Imperialis.

The origins of the Arbites can be traced through three distinct versions, enabling Rogue Trader players to fashion their character as a past enforcer for the Imperium’s judicial system.

In simpler terms, Subductors specialize in close combat and utilize shields – a brand-new equipment introduced with the DLC – to both safeguard themselves and apply force on their adversaries.

Watchful characters specialize in the skillful employment of shotguns, mastering the art of decimating large enemy groups up close. They can even dual-wield two-handed shotguns for enhanced devastation, given their unique background.

Finally, the Castigator origin allows you to debuff enemies and manipulate their movements.

We can expect to hear more about Lex Imperials during the upcoming Warhammer Skulls show.
