Genshin Impact named China’s most influential video game ahead of Black Myth Wukong

The 2025 Brand Global Communication Conference held by China has identified Genshin Impact as the game with the greatest global impact that originated from their nation.

In the ranking, the open-world RPG anime by HoYoverse stands at the top, surpassing Black Myth Wukong, the highly successful mythological action RPG from Game Science (2024), and Mobile Legends Bang Bang, the incredibly popular mobile MOBA. Honkai: Star Rail, another creation by HoYoverse, is placed fourth on this list.

HoYoverse, in terms of impact and brand recognition, has been placed as the seventh most significant global brand originating from China, surpassing Tencent to take the top spot among Chinese gaming companies.

The online retailer Temu, along with tech companies like Lenovo, Xiaomi, Huawei, and auto manufacturer BYD, are among the top-ranked entities in their respective fields. However, ByteDance (the owner of TikTok) is ranked below HoYoverse and Tencent.

HoYoverse’s games have garnered significant global fanbases, yet they hold particularly strong influence in their native land, where the company has effectively nurtured a distinct subculture encompassing gaming, music, and animation.

Genshin Impact has been paving the way, with its music capturing not just gamers’ attention but even gaining recognition from the United Nations. Performances such as the Honkai: Star Rail 2nd Anniversary Concert have the power to fill entire concert halls in cities like Shanghai for multiple days straight, selling out completely.

Established back in 2011 by a team of college students, this company now conducts business in Shanghai, Singapore, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Seoul, and Montreal. They’ve recently hinted at a new game based on their Honkai intellectual property, featuring creature-collecting mechanics.
