Rosamund Pike Reveals Bond Girl Audition Cost Her Dignity; Actress Was Asked To ‘Just Stand There in Underwear’ for Die Another Day Role

More recently, Rosamund Pike shared insights into the auditioning experience for her first major role as a Bond girl in Die Another Day, starring alongside Pierce Brosnan and Halle Berry. In 2002’s James Bond film, she portrayed Miranda Frost.

In conversation with Harper’s Bazaar UK, Pike candidly revealed details about the audition process, which came close to overstepping boundaries. Specifically, during her audition for the role of Miranda Frost, she was requested to disrobe completely and wear only her undergarments.

During my audition for the Bond film, I was instructed to undo my dress and stand there in my undergarments. This was shared by Pike with the media outlet.

The actress from Pride and Prejudice declined the offer, explaining that she found it inappropriate to discuss such matters during the audition process. She further stated, “I reasoned to myself, ‘No, I’ll handle that if I land the role. For now, I won’t be dealing with it.’ I can’t quite explain what made me say that.

Later on, Pike was assigned the role and starred alongside Brosnan in his final Bond film. Her character entered as an MI6 agent and Olympic fencer, who later revealed to be a double agent. In the movie’s climactic fight scene, Frost met her end at the hands of Jinx Johnson, played by Halle Berry.

Under the guidance of director Lee Tamahori, and produced by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, the screenplay penned by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, Die Another Day raked in an estimated USD 432 million globally. This made it the sixth highest-grossing film of 2002. Subsequently, Pierce Brosnan relinquished his role as James Bond, passing the mantle to Daniel Craig who debuted as the new 007 in Casino Royale, which hit theaters in November 2006.

Later on, Rosamund Pike became widely recognized in Hollywood following her role in Die Another Day. She’s since taken on various roles with moral complexities in psychological thrillers and led several period dramas. Her achievements include winning a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award, as well as receiving Oscar and BAFTA Award nominations.
