The ongoing legal drama surrounding Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s It Ends With Us production has drawn in Taylor Swift following a subpoena. However, Swift is not willing to comply with the situation. Her lawyers are actively challenging the subpoena, aiming to dismiss Justin Baldoni’s allegations against her.
As reported by Billboard, the law firm Venable, based in Washington, D.C., which has represented Swift for over a decade, submitted a motion on May 12 to dismiss the subpoena. They have stated that they have no connection whatsoever with the film or lawsuit.
The company argued that the subpoena holds no connection to the ongoing lawsuit, but rather is meant to harass and overburden individuals who are not involved in the case. They further stated that if any necessary documents exist, they should be supplied directly by Lively or Reynolds, not by Venable.
It was clarified that Venable played no role in the disputed film or any arguments or defenses presented in the initial lawsuit. The subpoena seems unnecessary, serving only to divert attention from the case facts and unjustly place an excessive financial strain on a party not involved in the litigation.
Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively have expressed their agreement with Taylor Swift’s legal team, stating that Baldoni is misusing the court’s discovery process by targeting parties not directly involved in the case. In a court filing on May 13th, they referred to this action as an “abuse of the discovery process.
Simultaneously, a representative for Swift has similarly backed her position, asserting that the subpoena was strategically used to attract public attention through sensationalism rather than concentrating on the facts of the legal matter.
The legal dispute known as It Ends With Us began when Blake Lively brought forth a sexual harassment lawsuit against Justin Baldoni. He denied these accusations and responded with a counter-suit, accusing the acting duo of defamation.
In his response lawsuit, Baldoni claimed that Lively exploited her tight-knit ties with influential figures Swift and Reynolds, misusing their power over him. He pointed out text exchanges from Lively in which she referred to these two individuals as her “dragon allies,” suggesting they were working together against him behind the scenes.
The trial is headed to March 2026.
