As a die-hard film fan, I’m thrilled that Spider-Man: Brand New Day is about to roll cameras, but here’s an exciting twist – another live-action Spidey series is currently in production! During the Prime Video upfront TV presentation in New York, they unveiled the first glimpse of Nicolas Cage donning the costume for the upcoming series, Spider-Noir. This gritty take on our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is set against the backdrop of a 1930s New York City ruled by gangsters. Intriguingly, Cage will once again bring the character of Spider-Man Noir to life, having delivered an outstanding performance in the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The image, reminiscent of the Marvel Comics hero’s animated counterpart, promises a dynamic blend of animation and reality.
As a keen admirer of storytelling, I’m particularly intrigued by Sony Television’s upcoming series, Spider-Noir. In the 1930s New York setting, this gripping tale follows a weary, hard-boiled private investigator played by none other than Mr. Cage, who finds himself unwillingly revisiting his past as the lone superhero of the city. The unique aspect of Spider-Noir lies in its availability in both black and white and color, adding a fascinating layer to the narrative.
Since the title includes “noir,” it’s likely that the show offers a black-and-white viewing option. It’s not definite yet, but there are whispers suggesting that Ben Reilly, rather than Peter Parker, will be the main character. In the Marvel Comics universe, Ben Reilly is known as Peter Parker’s clone and goes by the Scarlet Spider. This seems to indicate a version of Peter Parker from another universe.
Harry Bradbeer, known for his work on “Fleabag” and “Killing Eve,” will take charge as director and executive producer for the first two episodes. Oren Uziel (“22 Jump Street”) and Steve Lightfoot (“The Punisher,” “Shantaram”) have been appointed as co-showrunners and executive producers. It’s worth noting that while Nicolas Cage is set to portray the main character, it’s unlikely to be the identical Spider-Man Noir from “Into the Spider-Verse.” Although it would certainly be entertaining if that were the case. Given the infinite possibilities of the Spider-Verse, anything could happen. The upcoming production titled “Spider-Noir” is expected to debut on Prime Video sometime in 2026.
