In a remarkable display of good manners, he apologized to Beam after defending himself in a physical altercation, and even went so far as to politely instruct the Spider Devil to vacate the premises when he mistakenly believed her to be a human woman.
The Violence Fiend states that despite being a devil, this particular entity retains a substantial part of its original human brain. Unusual as it may be, it expresses deep affection for tranquility and affection, reminiscing about various details from its past life as a human. It maintains that the mask it wears prevents it from consuming, but instead, it takes pleasure in showing kindness to others, relishing food indirectly through their reactions to it.
18. Aki Hayakawa

In her original demonic form, Power boldly declared that her mere scent was enough to terrify fellow demons into flight, but it’s likely just bragging on her part. Power has the unique ability to control the blood flowing within her own body, crafting weapons from it. Additionally, she can influence other people’s blood through physical contact, even preventing them from bleeding excessively, although she acknowledges this requires great effort.
Power, being a Fiend, possesses the unique ability to manipulate regeneration in others by incorporating her own blood. In simpler terms, she can restore her health by consuming blood and has the power to regenerate from minimal amounts of blood, thanks to her Blood Devil nature. This capacity allows her to heal even after death, provided she absorbs the blood of a more potent Devil. For instance, Power utilized this skill to merge with Denji’s body following Makima’s victory over Chainsaw Man. Despite not being as high on the list as other protagonists, Power deserves recognition for her distinctive power.
16. Akane Sawatari
Akane Sawatari once served as a civilian devil hunter, partnering with the Gun Devil, and held a pact with a fearsome Snake Devil. Details about her background and abilities are scant, but what we’ve witnessed in the series has earned her a spot on this list. Her Snake Devil possesses significant strength and intimidation factor, making Akane a formidable and powerful adversary.
15. Hirofumi Yoshida
Hirofumi Yoshida is often referred to as a Private Bodyguard, particularly one of elite class, according to Makima. In the manga’s early stages, he was assigned to protect Denji by an organization. It’s been disclosed that he holds a pact with the Octopus Devil, granting him the ability to summon tentacles on command. Additionally, his proficiency in hand-to-hand combat has earned him recognition on this list.
14. Curse Devil
When summoned, the Curse Fiend manifests as a colossal two-headed skeleton adorned with horns. The left skull boasts three slits for eyes and sharper teeth, whereas the right skull resembles a human face. Its limbs are clad in razor-sharp claws, while its ribcage echoes this menace. When it speaks to someone, it either materializes as a towering maw or a pair of ominous lips hovering in the darkness. The Curse Fiend then appears, gripping the victim’s crossed arms, causing severe pain by biting their shoulders and neck and tightening its grip on their arms each time its summoner repeatedly attacks with a nail.
13. Cosmo / Cosmos Devil
Cosmo, who represents the Devil of the Universe, seldom shows any emotions beyond her habitual smile and tranquil appearance. The Cosmos Devil only utters the word “Halloween” and, like other girlfriends of Quanxi, follows Quanxi closely and appears to have a fondness for her, being under her control.
In the interaction between Cosmo and the Master, a different aspect of her personality emerges during their discussion. This alternate version suggests her true self may have originated within either the Master’s mind or her own. Despite maintaining a cheerful exterior, she exhibits a more composed demeanor and can converse clearly with the Master about current events. This character, who happens to be the grandson of a yakuza boss, was an associate of Denji in the initial chapters. Initially appearing as a German elderly man, it’s later unveiled that Santa Claus is not just one person but a title held by various individuals. The primary body is actually a Russian woman, often referred to as a “teacher” by her disciple Tolka, who also transforms into one of her bodies. This teacher has a pact with the Devil Doll and possesses the unique power to convert people into dolls under her command, which are integrated into Santa’s collective consciousness, known as his hive.
In a cunning scheme, Santa Claus orchestrates events to transport Denji and multiple hunters to Hell, offering them up as sacrifices to the Darkness Devil to gain the ability to slay Makima. After a fiery battle, Denji emerges victorious over her, and ultimately, Makima’s consciousness is obliterated by one of Quanxi’s lovers – the Cosmos Devil.
8. Quanxi
Hirofumi Yoshida remarked that Quanxi possesses an extraordinary level of strength, surpassing what most people could imagine. With her swords, she can swiftly cut through many individuals and playthings without showing any signs of slowing down. She eventually stops when the power of her own strikes causes her weapons to become ineffective.
Aki Hayakawa and the Angel Devil were left powerless following a single swift deflection. Quanxi, in her human form, possesses extraordinary speed. She sliced through an entire army of puppets crafted by the Puppet Devil before the initial five Devil Hunters even realized they had been killed, merely by darting among them at incredible speeds. This was all done without the five Devil Hunters ever catching a glimpse of her.
Quanxi showcases exceptional prowess in close-combat, earning Kishibe’s recognition as one of the world’s top fighters. Her expertise lies primarily in delivering powerful kicks. In mere seconds, she effectively incapacitated Denji, Tamaoki, and Kusakabe, all through kick-based attacks. Quanxi stands out as an enigmatic Hybrid, and her position among the strongest characters within the Chainsaw Man universe is a testament to her formidable abilities.
7. Kishibe
As per Makima’s insights, I’m part of a team, Division 4 in Tokyo, where Kishibe and Angel Devil are recognized as the most powerful members. Kishibe, in his own words, is the mightiest devil hunter. There are at least three extremely dangerous devils bound to him. Kishibe demonstrated an impressive show of strength when he single-handedly took down two devils working for Quanxi, who initially underestimated him due to his ordinary appearance.
In combat, knives prove to be highly efficient for Kishibe. After dodging Denji’s attack, he repeatedly plunged the knife into Denji’s back, followed by slitting Power’s throat and driving the blade through Denji’s jaw and into his brain. His aim is exceptional, as demonstrated by the precision with which he hurled a knife across a tight gap and hit Denji on the head.
6. Gun Devil
Moving forward in our list of powerful Chainsaw Man characters, we encounter the Gun Devil – a significant adversary from the initial storyline. This formidable figure has an astonishing speed, managing to eliminate approximately 1.2 million individuals across multiple nations within just five minutes. The Gun Devil possesses an extraordinary ability to fire bullets from weapons embedded in his own body with remarkable accuracy and swiftness.
The Fiendish Firearm is exceptionally swift, managing to take the lives of 1.2 million individuals across various nations in mere five minutes. Its speed was so great that sections of its flesh seared off its body. This malevolent entity possesses the ability to rapidly and precisely discharge bullets from a multitude of weapons integrated within it. It has the power to pierce the heart of every creature born between January to December, except for those born in April and July, as well as to shoot straight through the head of any adult male within roughly 1,000 meters, young children up to the age of 12, and all living beings within approximately 1,500 meters.
The Speed Demon sheds its own tissue, appearing bullet-like due to its rapid pace and potency. When any type of demon ingests fragments of the Speed Demon’s tissue, the Speed Demon gains significantly more power. These bullet fragments are attracted to each other and merge when they touch, trying to reunite with the Speed Demon’s main body in order to heal and regenerate.
5. Hell Devil
Whenever he materializes, the Fiend from Hell might take the form of a massive, six-fingered hand that emerges through a doorway in heaven linking to an entrance in Hell. This gives the Fiend from Hell the power to select specific individuals for Hell. The Fiend from Hell possesses the capacity to return victims from Hell back to the world of the living. As a devil, the Fiend from Hell can rejuvenate by consuming blood. Following his beheading by the Chainsaw Devil, a Devil hunter administered him his blood, causing him to dispatch the Chainsaw Devil to Hell. The Fiend from Hell is almost invincible as he can be killed and then resurrected in Hell. These are just some of the common abilities associated with devils, but we currently don’t have much detailed information about this particular one.
4. Asa Mitaka / War Devil
In the latest installment of the series, we meet a formidable character known as the War Devil. Notably, just before Asa Mitaka’s demise, the War Devil entered into a pact with her, allowing them to coexist and control her body simultaneously. To facilitate this arrangement, the War Devil preserved only half of Asa’s brain, surprisingly causing no unique complications for the girl. It appears that the shift in control over her body can only happen upon the War Devil’s command.
The War Demon possesses the power to peer into Mitaka’s thoughts, yet it appears that Mitaka can’t reciprocate this ability towards the Demon. When one of them takes control over a body, the other simply watches events unfold from afar, feeling only what the controlling side experiences without having direct contact with the surroundings.
The Fiend of Conflict can transform individuals it has influenced into diverse arsenals. It appears that there needs to be some affinity towards a War Devil for one to become associated with them. Upon selection, the War Devil specifies the type of weapon to be created and the name of the chosen individual.
3. Makima / Control Devil
In line with our expectations, it’s Makima, or the Control Devi, who emerges as the primary adversary in the initial installment of the manga. Known for her serious yet composed demeanor, Makima exudes a sense of calmness that is particularly evident when she clarifies the current state of affairs in a measured and systematic manner, without showing any signs of agitation. Interestingly, she often projects an air of compassion, especially towards Denji as he adjusts to his new surroundings. However, beneath this facade lies a shrewd and manipulative mind.
She warns Denji that defying her could lead to his destruction, yet she tantalizes him with the possibility of a loving or intimate bond between them. It’s clear that the Control Devil yearns for more power and is willing to go to extreme lengths to obtain it. Her actions are ruthless, and she doesn’t hesitate to endanger innocent lives or cause harm if it serves her purposes.
Makima is deeply enamored with the character Chainsaw Man, often referred to as the “demonic hero.” She’s captivated by his unique ability to eliminate the embodied idea of a Devil when consumed, and she openly declared her intention to gain control over him. Using his power, she aims to construct an utopia free from fears. If she fails in this endeavor, she believes that being consumed by Chainsaw Man would be an incredible honor, viewing it as an opportunity to become a part of the Chainsaw Devil herself.
Despite not openly stating it, Makima’s deepest wish was to spend the remainder of her life with Pochita and find lasting happiness with him, for she found it challenging to forge meaningful connections with others akin to herself, including her own Control Devil. In Part 2, the Control Devil reappears following Makima’s demise; however, its power in this new manifestation remains uncertain.
2. Darkness Devil
In the series “Chainsaw Man”, the Darkness Devil stands out as one of the most grotesque and unsettling characters yet. His appearance alone earns him a spot at the top of our list and makes him a feared entity among other Devils.
The Darkness Devil is constructed from multiple human bodies merged as his legs (two of them) and his torso (four of them). Each body possesses a unique facial feature: the one located just below the neck lacks eyes, nose, and features a vertical mouth; the second head sports open eyes with its mouth sewn shut; the third has no nose and an open mouth, while its eyes are also stitched closed; and the fourth exhibits a grim expression without any eyes.
The man’s head has a resemblance to a pterodactyl’s, featuring curved horns. He seems to be wearing a cloak of darkness, with outstretched arms. Apart from his tendency to attack those he perceives as threats and his ability to disappear people’s limbs at will, not much is known about this character often referred to as the Darkness Devil.
1. Denji / Chainsaw Man / Chainsaw Devil
In line with expectations, the character most dreaded across the series, the one whose image from Hell’s depths lingers in every Devil’s mind, is the Chainsaw Devil, who presently dwells within Denji – also known as the Chainsaw Man. Born into poverty and lacking formal education, Denji’s upbringing was far from ideal. This has resulted in a brash, naive demeanor that can often seem rude and harsh, reminiscent of a child. However, despite his disadvantages, he possesses a remarkable capacity for empathy and is always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need whenever the opportunity arises.
Although not known for his exceptional intellect, the Chainsaw Devil is capable of devising clever strategies to eliminate other devilish adversaries. An example of this is when he ignited himself and employed light to weaken Santa Claus sufficiently to be eliminated. Denji finds himself perplexed about his life’s aspirations now that he has fulfilled his basic needs and transformed into a Public Safety Devil Hunter. He laments the fleeting nature of realizing his dream and fears that he might lose his ability to feel compassion, bond with others, and even experience emotions.
As Denji’s desire for affection and his emotional scars become more evident throughout the narrative, it’s clear that he turns to Makima for emotional support. In a desperate attempt to cope, Denji develops an emotional dependence on Makima, even going so far as to express his wish to be her pet without feelings. Due to this fragile mental state, instead of killing Makima, Denji chooses to merge with her and embrace victory, a decision that leads him to consume her at the end of Part 1.
As a passionate film critic, I can’t help but delve into the captivating world of “Chainsaw Man.” One character that truly stands out is none other than Gun Devil. This formidable figure is not just a weapon, but a manifestation of power and destruction.
