Baki: Who’s #1 in the Ultimate Fighter Rankings?

Baki” is renowned as one of the most beloved martial arts anime series of all time. Despite its unique, somewhat eccentric aesthetic and storytelling, “Baki” and its successors have managed to win the affection of fans globally, as evidenced by the ongoing manga series and ongoing anime adaptations. This list will feature 20 characters from “Baki,” arranged from #20 to #1, based on their power levels and abilities. The information provided about these powerful characters should help explain why they are ranked where they are on this list. So, who are the strongest characters in “Baki”?

20. Spec

Full Name: Spec

A man from America managed to break free from a submarine-turned-prison, floating in the vast expanse of the ocean. He’s known for his jovial demeanor and yet carries the title of the largest individual facing the death penalty. Beneath his ever-present grin lies a ruthless assassin. His combat style predominantly relies on raw power, but he occasionally resorts to cunning tactics to gain an edge in a fight.

Following encounters with the players from the Underground Competition, he issues a one-on-one battle challenge to Hanayama. This was the initial assassin to succumb in the contest, yet his formidable physique for someone of his advanced age (97 years) was remarkably robust.

Certainly, multiple impacts will occur internally, striking the Statue of Liberty repeatedly. This repeated impact is expected to create extensive cracks throughout its structure. The statue may start disintegrating, only to be restored by Navy personnel.

19. Kureha Shinogi

Full Name: Kureha Shinogi

A remarkable doctor and elite athlete, he boasts having the punching power of a boxer, the agility of a wrestler, and the swiftness of a sprinter. Convinced of his exceptional nature, he dared to confront Baki in an attempt to catch Yūjirō’s eye. Nevertheless, this hero will prevail over him.

Afterward, he plans to sign up for the Basement Tournament. During this event, he intends to request a meeting with his younger brother, Kōshō. With the belief that Kōshō has now surpassed him, he relinquishes the competition and allows his brother to take over, effectively resolving their dispute. Consequently, he was defeated in the first round.

18. Kaiō Dorian

Full Name: Kaiō Dorian

A man from America, who was sentenced to death but managed to live by murdering all his guards instead. Unlike other inmates, he is unique due to his exceptionally clever and deceitful intellect. Physically, he towers like a giant, with a lean build and every inch of him is pure muscle. His beard, light hair, calm eyes, agile movements, and sometimes philosophical demeanor give him the likeness of an ancient philosopher.

To be honest, I don’t shy away from leveraging an array of tools and strategies when engaging in combat, and that’s just one part of who Dorian is. Beyond his intellectual prowess and rich cultural background, Dorian is a seasoned practitioner of Chinese martial arts, demonstrating a unique bond with Retsu Kaiō.

17. Gaia

Full Name: Gaia / Nomura

In reality, his name is Nomura, but he’s famously recognized as Gaia, an elite mercenary renowned for mastering survival skills in harsh environments and combats in nature. As leader of a team of five extraordinary fighters, Gaia instills fear and death on the battlefield, earning him the ominous nickname “Mr. War”.

Gaia is essentially the secondary persona that emerges from Nomura when his feelings of threat and intense desire to harm become overwhelming. Originally, Nomura was merely a common soldier with medical duties, gradually succumbing to violence. But after witnessing death up close, he developed a second identity – Gaia.

16. Mohammad Alai Jr.

Full Name: Mohammad Alai Jr.

As the son of legendary boxer Muhammad Ali, known as Ali Jr, carries on his father’s legacy with immense skill and talent in the ring. A gifted fighter, he can hold his own against any opponent due to his powerful fists. He makes an appearance in the sequel of Baki, where he emerges as the primary adversary of our protagonist. In addition, he will give Doppo, Shibukawa, and Jack Hanma considerable trouble before losing some of his luster at the end.

Beyond his impressive fighting skills, he’s known for being a persistent charmer, with no secret about his admiration towards the stunning Kozue. Notably, his father shares a long-standing friendship with the Ogre, and is among the select few who earn his respect.

15. Doppo Orochi

Full Name: Doppo Orochi

Doppo Orochi is widely regarded as the premier living practitioner of Karate. As head of the Shinshinkai, a Japanese dojo with over a million followers, he’s renowned for his exceptional fighting skills – legend has it that he can even take down two-meter, 260-kilogram tigers with his bare hands. To add to this, he bears the scars of a fierce encounter with Yūjirō on his face.

In another encounter on the combat sands, Yūjirō will meet the Ogre once more. Overpowered yet again, Yūjirō plans to pluck an eye from him this time. Competing in the fierce underworld martial arts tournament, he’ll go head-to-head with Gōki Shibukawa, a seasoned ju-jitsu expert. A wise guide, Baki will learn much from him.

14. Gōki Shibukawa

Full Name: Gōki Shibukawa

A man, aged 74 with just one eye, is the founder of an aikido school. In a tournament held in an underground arena, he managed to shock everyone by making it to the semi-finals, despite his petite stature. He’s also the unique competitor who can fight effectively while seated. His exceptional fighting techniques are highly advanced, primarily relying on utilizing his opponent’s strength against them.

In the ensuing clash, I found myself astonished as Jack Hammer overpowered my favorite character with sheer raw strength in their next encounter. To vanquish him, Jack executed a swift, momentum-less strike – a move that cleverly countered the Aiki technique. Caught off guard, Shibukawa was compelled to retaliate using his own force. However, the vast disparity in muscle mass and weight made this attempt futile, leaving Shibukawa flat on his back.

In the latest installment, he encounters Yanagi – the individual who caused injury to his left eye some years back.

In this new episode, he meets up with Yanagi, the person responsible for injuring his left eye a few years prior.

Or:
He runs into Yanagi in the new series, the guy who had injured his left eye quite some time ago.

13. Katsumi Orochi

Full Name: Katsumi Orochi

Born as Doppo’s adopted son, he earned the nickname “the ultimate karate weapon.” Globally renowned in the martial arts community for his extraordinary physical attributes and innate karate skill, he remains overshadowed by his father’s legacy due to a lesser-developed mental facet that hinders him from establishing his own identity within the martial arts hall of fame.

During the Basement Tournament, his battle against Hanayama proved more challenging than anticipated, requiring him to employ his most potent karate moves to prevail. However, he was powerless against Retsu Kaiō’s formidable techniques in the subsequent round and suffered the embarrassment of being knocked out with a single blow.

12. Kaoru Hanayama

Full Name: Kaoru Hanayama

The head of the Japanese mafia, or Yakuza, is a towering, muscular figure whose ferocious grip is renowned in martial arts circles worldwide. At just 15 years old, he was already leading one of Japan’s largest crime clans. It was during this period that he decided to challenge Hanma Yūjirō, who was reputed to be the strongest man on earth.

At thirteen, Baki confronts Hanayama for the very first time. In a surprising turn of events, Hanayama endures his initial loss at the hands of both father and son Hanma.

Regardless of having no background in martial arts, his extraordinary physical prowess allowed him to overpower a Japanese Kempo expert during the initial round of the tournament, placing him as an eighth finalist. He would later resurface multiple times, initially for the fight against Baki and then for the Underground Arena competition.

11. Jack Hanma

Full Name: Jack Hanma / Jack Hammer

As a fervent movie critic, I find myself drawn into the intense world of Jack, the half-brother of Baki and eldest offspring of Yūjirō Hanma. Born in the cold, unforgiving confines of a prison, Jack’s origins are as intricate as they are tragic – the product of a union between his father, Yūjirō, and a Canadian soldier during the tumultuous times of the Vietnam War. The circumstances surrounding his birth were far from ideal, with his mother being subjected to a horrific act of violence at the hands of Yūjirō.

However, it is not the circumstances of his birth that define Jack, but rather the fire that burns within him. This fire is fueled by one single, all-consuming desire: revenge against the man who caused him such pain and suffering. In pursuit of this goal, Jack is willing to traverse treacherous paths, even if they lead him down a dark path involving the use of harmful substances. His journey is a testament to the indomitable human spirit and the lengths one will go to seek justice.

His combat technique combines the deadliest forms of martial arts, and it’s evident that he frequently employs bites, which are effective due to his robust jaw and sharp teeth. Similar to Baki, Jack appears calm for most part, but when battle commences, he unleashes the raw power and ferocity of a fierce animal.

a Brazilian Ju-jutsu expert, a Kenpoka, a Russian wrestler named A. Galeyn, and Gōki Shibukawa, eventually reaching the final. However, in the end, he is bested by his younger brother after an intense, ruthless bout.

10. Kaiō Retsu

Full Name: Kaiō Retsu / Liè Hǎiwáng

As a connoisseur of martial arts movies, I can’t help but marvel at this extraordinary figure – a martial artist whose mastery echoes the rich legacy of Chinese combat techniques spanning four millennia. In the clandestine tournament’s opening bout, I square off against a Russian grappler, boasting abilities that leave spectators in awe. Yet, I manage to swiftly outmaneuver him.

In the second round, I find myself face-to-face with Mount Toba, an imposing adversary who has previously crossed swords (or rather, fists) with Baki. The anticipation is palpable as we prepare for what promises to be a truly epic showdown.

Due to Toba’s ongoing struggle with his knee injury, Retsu decides to use a strategic move that ultimately leads to Toba surrendering. In the third round, Retsu defeats Katsumi Orochi with a single strike, as Orochi had also underestimated Chinese Kempo.

As a die-hard movie fan, I must admit that despite my best efforts, I was outmatched by the phenomenal fury unleashed by Baki during our semi-final showdown. His performance seemed to embody the “Awakening of the Hanma Blood” within him – a sight to behold for any true enthusiast like myself.

9. Izō Motobe

Full Name: Izō Motobe

An elderly martial artist, proficient in Jiu-jitsu and various Japanese combat methods, harbors unresolved conflicts with Yūjirō Hanma, much like many others. In this spirit of vengeance, he encounters Baki for the first time, intending to gauge his abilities. Unfortunately for the hero, he learns a hard lesson as he is repeatedly defeated during their sparring sessions.

Following their reunion, Izō faced Yūjirō once more, but endured another devastating loss. In the Basement Tournament, he was knocked out in the initial round, leaving spectators in shock. For the rest of the competition, his role will be limited to providing luxury commentary and assisting other participants. However, in NGB, Izō is expected to shine as he overcomes Yanagi in an extraordinary fashion.

Or, more concisely:

After their reunion, Izō suffered a second defeat at Yūjirō’s hands during the Basement Tournament and was eliminated in the first round. He will now serve as a luxury commentator for the rest of the tournament while other competitors vie for the title. In NGB, he is set to make a comeback by defeating Yanagi in an unconventional manner.

Unconstrained by the weapon-restricting regulations of the subterranean combat zone, it’s during his confrontation with Musashi Miyamoto in the Baki Dou series where his genuine worth will come to light.

8. Oliva Biscuit

Full Name: Oliva Biscuit

A man born in Cuba but raised in America, he resides in an unconventional manner within the legal system. He dwells behind bars yet possesses multiple properties including apartments, a library, and storage rooms. His role involves overseeing the re-capture of prisoners who have managed to escape and temporarily enjoy more freedom than intended.

Immensely large and powerfully built, he boasts a strength and physique that surpasses the limits of imagination. This enables him to overcome his weak skills and withstand brutal attacks without so much as flinching. He is also an old ally of Yūjirō (eighteen years old) during the conflict between the United States and Hanma Yūjirō.

This version attempts to simplify the original text, making it more accessible while still preserving its essential meaning.

In the remainder of the second season, we’ll learn more about him, but a true showdown between Mr. Oliver and a Hanma family member won’t happen until the third season. This appears to be reminiscent of the legendary bodybuilder Sergio Oliva.

We’ll find out more about him in the second season’s remaining episodes, but we’ll have to wait until the third for a significant fight between Mr. Oliver and someone from the Hanma family, which seems to be influenced by the famous bodybuilder Sergio Oliva.

7. Kaiō Kaku

Full Name: Kaiō Kaku (Sea Emperor Kaku) / Guō Hǎihuáng

This centenarian individual, clearly beyond the usual lifespan, stands as the eldest and strongest among the currently active Kaiō. Consequently, he ranks among the most formidable fighters globally, a fact not lost on even Baki’s father who acknowledges his value.

Even though he primarily moves about in a wheelchair, there’s no denying that he’s an incredibly powerful combatant, capable of standing toe-to-toe with Yūjirō himself. His battle against the Ogre was truly the zenith of the second series. He makes his entrance during the “Rai Tai” Tournament, flanked by two formidable fighters: his son Kaku Shunsuei and the powerful Long Shun Bun.

6. Pickle

Full Name: Unknown

In the third season of “Baki: Son of Ogre,” we’re introduced to a character who is quite extraordinary. This individual, it turns out, is an ancient human unearthed during excavations at a Colorado power plant (in the U.S.). He was preserved in a vast sheet of salt ice, sharing space with a Tyrannosaurus rex.

After being brought back to life by botanists, Pickle, however, proved anything but compliant. Instead, he wreaked havoc wherever he went, even managing to damage a cutting-edge military combat robot in an attempt to seize control from the U.S. military.

In my humble opinion, it wasn’t until Strydum approached me amicably that I could take him along on a journey to Japan, where the battles commenced. Pickle, this character in our series, exhibits superhuman physical prowess that far exceeds any other contender. His ferocity was so intense during his fight with Retsu Kaio, it felt like he was foraging rather than fighting, and he even devoured Retsu’s right leg post-battle. It seems Pickle is rapidly approaching the level of Baki in terms of sheer power and unpredictability.

5. Yūichirō Hanma

Full Name: Yūichirō Hanma

While details about Yūichirō’s personality are scarce, Mitsunari Tokugawa observes that he is quite different from Yūjirō. This suggests that he could be more amiable than Yūjirō, as demonstrated by his unwavering backing of Baki in the confrontation with his father, unlike Yūjirō’s hostility. Furthermore, Yūichirō appears to be a laid-back and composed individual.

One explanation for Yūjirō’s harsh treatment of Baki is that it triggers memories of his own father. During the Battle of Okinawa, there are instances where Yūichirō demonstrates extreme brutality towards American soldiers, such as by mercilessly breaking their bones and twisting their necks in gruesome ways.

However, this can somehow be justified as they are invading his house.

4. Nomi no Sukune II

Full Name: Nomi no Sukune II

The offspring of Nomi no Sukune is a robust, powerfully built man with raven-black hair tied in a ponytail. His physique is sculpted to perfection for optimal posture and strength as a sumo wrestler. Despite his towering stature and commanding presence, he possesses soft, delicate features; Baki Hanma remarks that his face has a certain femininity about it.

His attire is reminiscent of a typical sumo wrestler’s; he sports white bands around his waist and a snug, cord-like sash to secure his trousers. Upon their initial encounter, Baki found Nomi in loose, casual garments, donning a broad-brimmed black hat, and sandals on his feet.

There isn’t a lot known about Nomi’s character, contrasting with the famed warrior Musashi Miyamoto. Instead of a complex outlook, Nomi appears to have a more straightforward mindset. He is notably humble and maintains a tranquil demeanor, even in the heat of combat.

3. Musashi Miyamoto

Full Name: Musashi Miyamoto

Musashi exhibits a remarkable simplicity in his character. He behaves much like a martial artist striving for recognition and fame, longing both for fresh acclaim and the renown he once held. Unlike other combatants, Musashi stands apart – spiritually isolated from the world at large, even more so than Pickle himself. However, unlike him, Musashi struggled to adjust to the contemporary age.

In the fourth series of the manga, the samurai’s troubled mental state appears repeatedly, hinting that Musashi may lack empathy for others and only shows mercy to those he feels pity for. He seems indifferent about causing harm or injury to those unfortunate enough to face him in a challenge.

2. Yūjirō Hanma

Full Name: Yūjirō Hanma

As a passionate film aficionado, I can’t help but admire the formidable character known as “The Ogre.” This moniker isn’t just a nickname; it’s a testament to his ferocious and menacing presence on-screen. His back muscles, when tensed to their maximum, take on an evil visage that chills me to the core.

Yūjirō, in his repertoire, possesses an astounding array of fighting techniques, ranging from ju-jitsu to Kenpō. Yet, he prefers to engage in combat with nothing but his bare hands. His martial arts prowess is not a recent development; it’s been honed since his youth, as even at the tender age of sixteen, he had already mastered all known martial arts.

In his teenage years, he played a role in the dismantling of multiple Green Beret, SEAL, and DELTA FORCE teams. He honed his combat abilities on diverse battlefields such as Vietnam, targeting both American and Vietnamese forces to enhance his skills. It was during these battles that he crossed paths with Oliva Biscuit.

Most of the opponents that Baki battles are working towards him as their ultimate objective, including his own son. This formidable figure is relentlessly cruel and brutal, seeking only to overwhelm and defeat his adversaries. To date, the only individual who has managed to garner his respect is none other than Muhammad Ali, or his manga counterpart: Mohammad Alai.

1. Baki Hanma

Full Name: Baki Hanma

In this narrative, the primary character is actually Yūjirō Hanma’s son, who aspires to either surpass or equal his father in strength. Throughout the comic series, we find him facing progressively more formidable adversaries, a journey that he hopes will bring him closer to his ultimate goal: catching up with his powerful father.

In the story, the character is twelve when it begins and reaches adulthood at the conclusion, being eighteen years old. His genes, which originate from an Ogre, occasionally drive him to commit unusual acts of aggression during his fights. Nicknamed “The Face of the Demon” behind his back, he will face Jack Hammer in the Underground Arena Tournament Final.

Standing tall at 1.67 meters, I am Baki Hanma, and although my years may show, I never skip a day when it comes to pumping iron for strength training or practicing the graceful moves of Tai-Chi-Chuan.
