Who’s Attending the 2025 Cannes Film Festival? From Scarlett Johansson To Robert Pattinson, Emma Stone, Tom Cruise and More

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’m thrilled to share that the vibrant tapestry of global cinema will once again unfurl along the French Riviera from May 13th to the 24th, 2025, as the Cannes Film Festival makes its grand return. This year, the limelight shifts towards the talented Laurent Lafitte, who graciously takes up hosting duties for both the opening and closing ceremonies, succeeding Camille Cottin. The legendary Juliette Binoche, an Oscar-winning French icon, will preside over the jury, commemorating her 40th anniversary since gracing the renowned Montée des Marches. With a diverse array of auteurs, budding talents, and international luminaries, Cannes 2025 is poised to be one of the most captivating editions in recent times.

Italy contests with the film “Fuori,” helmed by Mario Martone and featuring Valeria Golino in the role of author Goliarda Sapienza. In this production, Golino, who additionally directed the series adaptation of Sapienza’s “The Art of Joy,” delves into the life of the writer while she was incarcerated and explores her profound connections with fellow prisoners. Two more Italian films make their way to the Un Certain Regard section: Alessio Rigo de Righi and Matteo Zoppis’ western titled “Heads or Tails?”, and “The Cities of the Plain,” an intimate road film directed by Francesco Sossai.

Ari Aster’s Western film titled Eddington, set during the pandemic era, will feature Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, and Emma Stone. Scarlett Johansson is stepping into directing with Eleanor the Great, which will be screened in Un Certain Regard, while Kristen Stewart’s The Chronology of Water premieres in the same section. Robert Pattinson takes on a role in Die, My Love directed by Lynne Ramsay, and shares the screen with Jennifer Lawrence.

In a new project, filmmaker Wes Anderson unveils “The Phoenician Scheme,” a fashionable spy adventure featuring Benicio Del Toro, Mia Threapleton, Tom Hanks, along with a star-studded cast that includes Scarlett Johansson, Bryan Cranston, Jeffrey Wright, and Benedict Cumberbatch. Simultaneously, Josh O’Connor takes center stage in two highly anticipated films: “The History of Sound,” a World War I romance shared with Paul Mescal, and “The Mastermind,” an art-heist drama directed by Kelly Reichardt.

Robert De Niro is set to receive an Honorary Palme d’Or at the festival opening and give a public masterclass the next day. He expressed his fondness for the Cannes Film Festival, stating that it’s particularly meaningful in today’s divided world as it unites us. On the same evening, Tom Cruise will make a return to the festival with an out-of-competition screening of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. Accompanied by director Christopher McQuarrie and co-stars Vanessa Kirby and Mariela Garriga, this marks his third appearance at Cannes.

The lineup for this year’s festival features films by renowned directors such as Julia Ducournau (Alpha), Richard Linklater (Nouvelle Vague), and Jafar Panahi (A Simple Accident). Neon, an American distributor, will bring two eagerly awaited titles: Alpha and Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value. With a multitude of prominent filmmakers and star-studded debuts, Cannes 2025 promises to be a significant milestone on the global cinematic timeline.
