Lea Michele Speaks Out on Fractured Bond With Glee Cast and Mean-Girl Comments After Cory Monteith’s Death

In a candid conversation on the Therapuss podcast with Jake Shane, Lea Michele opened up about how the 2013 passing of her boyfriend and Glee co-star, Cory Monteith, impacted her connection with the rest of the cast. She shared that the traumatic event made her feel disconnected from them on set.

When questioned if the cast grew extremely close following Monteith’s passing, Michele responded promptly, “Not really.” She further explained, “I believe it did for certain individuals, but for me, it was incredibly challenging. I just shattered completely.” Michele mentioned that she concentrated on her work and found it tough to cope with the loss at such a young age.

On the Fox series, Lea Michele portrayed Rachel Berry and Cory Monteith played Finn Hudson. They had been together for a year before Monteith tragically passed away from a heroin overdose at age 31 in a hotel room in Vancouver. Following this incident, Michele found support among the backstage team.

She mentioned that both the crew members and those on the show were providing significant assistance to her. However, many had already left by then, which was difficult for her. She also expressed that she felt a great deal of personal support from everyone within the building, whether they realized it or not, helping her persevere.

Michelle openly confessed that she found it hard to pause for mourning because, if she hadn’t shown up at work, others might not have had employment either. She characterized the predicament as one fraught with pressure and emphasized that she had to suppress her personal feelings to ensure everyone could keep working.

Her remarks were made during her continuous contemplation about her experience on Glee and the image she maintained following the series finale, which she characterized as a disheartening and melancholic era that left a profound mark on her.

2020 found me, an ardent fan, witnessing a shocking revelation about one of my beloved Glee castmates, Lea Michele. Samantha Ware alleged that Lea had made her life a living nightmare on set, even going so far as to say Lea once threatened to defile her wig by using it as a toilet. This wasn’t an isolated incident, as Heather Morris and Amber Riley also voiced their concerns, with Morris describing Lea as “very…unpleasant” and Riley sharing that many Black cast members felt “terrorized.” These accounts have left me deeply saddened and questioning the environment I once admired.

Later on, Michelle issued a public apology and made efforts to present herself anew. During a 2023 interview for a magazine feature, she mentioned how valuable it was to let others get to know her genuinely.

In the latest podcast, Michele playfully addressed speculations about her being unable to read. “I can read,” she chuckled, effectively debunking the ongoing jest.
