2025 saw me, an ardent BLACKPINK fan, witnessing a digital storm as star Lisa donned a Louis Vuitton outfit at the prestigious Met Gala. The ensemble, allegedly, depicted Rosa Parks on a delicate lace undergarment, sparking widespread criticism online. However, the high-end brand has since clarified that the dress in question does not feature the iconic figure of Ms. Parks.
28-year-old actress, who is currently starring in The White Lotus, made a dramatic appearance at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday evening. Dressed entirely in black, she aimed to match the event’s theme – Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. Her choice of clothing suggested that the figures depicted on her underwear were Rosa Parks, the renowned American civil rights activist famous for her defiance of Jim Crow laws by refusing to give up her bus seat in Montgomery.
Currently, it’s been made clear that the artwork featured is indeed by artist Henry Taylor. This creative individual teamed up with Pharrell Williams to design the attire for Lisa in Louis Vuitton’s ensemble. It’s important to note that these portraits depict Taylor’s neighbor rather than Parks.
According to a statement released by Louis Vuitton (LV), the visages featured in this design, as well as those on past LV items adorned with Taylor’s artwork, are all derived from his personal experiences – portraits of family, friends, and local residents.
The numbers stem directly from Henry’s current art pieces, which he shared with LVMH for Pharrell’s initial collection with Louis Vuitton in 2023. It was clarified that none of the individuals portrayed within the clothing items are Parks or other notable figures from Black cultural heritage.
Lisa showcased an elegant ensemble consisting of a sleek, body-hugging black blazer with see-through panels. To finish off her stylish red-carpet appearance at the Met, she accessorized with a chic black Louis Vuitton handbag and black heels. For her hairstyle, she chose a luxurious updo. She went for a gentle and understated makeup look to avoid drawing attention away from her ensemble.
This year’s Met Gala served as a significant fundraising occasion for the Costume Institute, bringing in an impressive total of $31 million through ticket sales and additional sponsorships.
