Rebellion has plans for Atomfall 2 as the first game’s success makes this another brand for the Sniper Elite studio

In 2025, Atomfall from the Rebellion studio might not have been the year’s largest game, but it still made a significant impact as a captivating blend of first-person mystery and shooter genres. On its release day, the game attracted millions of players, establishing itself as a fresh identity for the British game development team, marking their expansion beyond the Sniper Elite series.

In an upcoming episode of the VideoGamer Podcast, creative director Ben Fisher hinted that there could be a sequel if Rebellion decides to proceed in that direction, based on the success of the current game. However, nothing has been officially confirmed yet. The team has ensured that there are enough unsolved mysteries within the game’s sprawling countryside to create an engaging follow-up storyline.

What’s the deal with Atomfall 2?

In the podcast, Fisher clarified that Atomfalll has achieved such a level of success that it undeniably represents a recognizable brand to us.

Fisher mentioned that our goal is to strike a balance between introducing fresh ideas and creating sequels that fans are eager to experience. In other words, we release content for Atomfall and hear requests for Zombie [Army] 5 or Sniper [Elite] 6, and so on. Regardless of the game, people often express their desire for more of the other title as well.

Fisher clarified that Rebellion has gained understanding about “an Atomfall”, essentially paving the way for a follow-up. This insight enables them to build upon their knowledge, strengthen what’s effective, and refine or update the aspects that need improvement.

The allure of the Atomfall game primarily stems from its distinctive setting – Wyndom and its surrounding countryside. These locales stand out remarkably from the majority of other games. However, a potential sequel could transpire in a different location. Although Fisher didn’t specify where, the development team has concepts for what transpired in various parts of the UK and beyond.

The developer explained, ‘We’ve arranged our narrative elements carefully to give us flexibility for future stories.’ In essence, they aimed to ensure there were multiple paths for storytelling within this universe. However, they didn’t want to restrict the enjoyment of Atomfall 1 by heavily favoring one storyline. Each decision made in the game affects its outcome differently and they don’t want to commit to a single story just yet, much like how The Elder Scrolls series works. They referred to their approach as ‘The Warp in the West.’

As a dedicated gamer, let me share some insights about our latest game, Atomfall. We’ve worked tirelessly to subtly incorporate hints and traces of the world beyond the dense game universe that players like us have explored. There are designs for the external realm, but I’m sworn to secrecy for now. Stay tuned!

He emphasized that subtle hints about a world beyond the quarantine zone were deliberately included, without providing concrete facts. “We’re aware of how the Windscale Disaster affects the larger Atomfall universe,” he added, “but we haven’t delved into it just yet. It occurred five years ago, leaving ample room for aftermath effects. Any further details would be premature spoilers for a game that is still in development.
