It’s clear that the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t in its former glory; there’s been a series of box office flops, and it seems few are tuning into Disney+ shows such as “Daredevil: Born Again”, which hasn’t even managed to chart on Nielsen with seven episodes already released.
It seems highly probable that the entire series of Daredevil: Born Again might not appear on Nielsen’s ratings. If the last two episodes released together fail to make it onto the charts during a week with low viewership, then it may not be included at all. In fact, there’s a chance this show could become the least-watched Marvel Cinematic Universe series, even surpassing Echo and Ms. Marvel in that regard, if you can imagine it.
It appears that the Marvel content on Disney+ and the Marvel and Star Wars movies have not been well-received by fans due to a lack of satisfaction with the creative direction. Fans have expressed their dissatisfaction, leading to a decrease in viewership and interest. This issue does not seem to be related to superhero fatigue or overextension, but rather a problem with the creative choices made in these productions.
What are the ratings?
In the week of March 31 – April 6, 2025, Nielsen’s ratings showed that episode 7 of Daredevil: Born Again, which was exclusively released on Disney+, did not manage to make it onto their charts. It is important to note that Disney has enabled automatic tracking for Nielsen in all Disney+ accounts, meaning they measure the popularity of episodes within a week’s timeframe.
At the base of the rankings lies “Bosch: Legacy” on Prime Video, totalling a staggering 470 million minutes. Consequently, episode 7 of “Daredevil: Born Again” fell below this figure. Regrettably, this installment didn’t fare well as Heather falsely claimed credit for killing Muse instead of Daredevil, and she even scolded Matt (laughs). To add to the humor, Vanessa continued her role as Kingpin.
Marvel’s Downward Spiral: Daredevil Flops, Thunderbolts Bombs, Feige Scrambles
In my recent review of Daredevil: Born Again, I found myself dismayed by the viewing statistics for episodes 5 (Ms. Marvel tie-in) and 6 (Muse). These episodes fell short of reaching a total of 344 million minutes watched, which equates to each episode averaging under 172 million minutes individually. If we don’t see an uptick in viewership from Marvel Cinematic Universe fans towards the end to binge-watch, Daredevil: Born Again will unfortunately become the first Marvel series not to appear on the Nielsen charts.
This week, Thunderbolts were added to the mix, and on Friday, the Wall Street Journal disclosed that Kevin Feige is making significant changes within Marvel. Earlier I mentioned that Feige was also revamping Daredevil: Born Again, but it appears they didn’t go far enough. The final episode of Season 1 was actually well-done, so let’s keep our fingers crossed for a similar quality in Season 2.
Is the MCU doomed? Up next is Fantastic Four in July.
Daredevil: Born Again Nielsen viewership ratings:
- Episode 1 / 2: under 465
- Episode 3: under 464
- Episode 4: under 373
- Episode 5/6: under 344
- Episode 7: under 470
