Amidst rumors suggesting Justin Bieber’s church might be a cult, Pastor Judah Smith is opting for humor instead of indignation. In a playful Instagram video, Smith poked fun at the allegations by jokingly stating that Churchome can’t possibly be a cult – since it doesn’t gather frequently enough to fulfill the criteria.

On Friday, Smith posted a video on Instagram detailing an encounter with a paparazzo who inquired if he was managing a cult. He referred to the photographer as a “kind woman.” Smith admitted that he was taken aback by the question, but playfully demanded snakes and sacrificial blood from his stage crew, referencing the sensationalism surrounding the allegation.

Smith humorously maintained his stance, even though it might not be appropriate to joke about such matters, by stating, “If Churchome is a cult, it must be the most inept one ever.” He clarified that the church gathers only once a month, and he no longer delivers sermons every Wednesday – activities which are far from the immersive brainwashing often linked to cult-like practices.

The concern about Churchome’s influence on Bieber originates with Ryan Good, one of the co-founders of Drew House, Bieber’s fashion brand. Reportedly, Good and Smith have differing views, and this disagreement might have deepened when Smith was appointed to the Drew House board, despite Good’s objections. Currently distanced from Bieber, it is said that Good is anxious about his ex-friend’s religious connections and recent public actions.

Ignoring the commotion, Judah Smith maintains his composure with satire rather than defensiveness. Although there is ongoing skepticism about Churchome, Smith’s playful dismissal hints that he has no plans to participate in any rituals or take the label of being a cult leader too seriously.
