In gacha games like P5X, there’s a system called “pity” that ensures better results if you don’t get lucky for a while. Every time you pull a character that’s not a 4 or 5-star, the pity count increases. This system is designed to reward your persistence in the game.
We’ll clearly outline the functioning of these rates for each type of banner in the game, enabling you to approach pulls with a full understanding of the potential outcomes.
4-star character pity in P5X
In the process of pulling characters, it’s quite common to obtain 4-star characters frequently. However, there’s also a system in place called pity, meaning that if you don’t receive a 4-star after nine consecutive pulls, your 10th pull is ensured to be a 4-star. So, if you prefer pulling ten at once, you can count on getting at least one 4-star character.
5-star character pity in P5X
For top-tier characters, the process isn’t particularly generous since you’ll notice the display showing that approximately 80 attempts are required before you’re assured of obtaining a 5-star character. This makes them quite expensive unless you happen to pull them earlier by chance. However, the regular banner offers a one-time perk where you can choose a 5-star character for yourself once you’ve made 300 attempts on it.
5-star weapon pity in P5X
In the P5X system, weapons are more abundant, albeit slightly, and there’s a greater chance of obtaining a 5-star weapon compared to other systems. Specifically, after 70 pulls, you are assured a 5-star draw. At this 70/70 point, you have a 50% chance of pulling the limited-time featured 5-star weapon on the banner. The remaining two weapons you choose will each have a 25% probability of appearing instead. This means that, even if you don’t get your most desired weapon, you’ll still receive something from your selection.
Limited-time banner pity in P5X
In P5X, temporary advertisements play a crucial role, since they offer the rarest and popular characters within the game.
Each banner showcases a single character who’s temporarily spotlighted, and this character is often referred to as the game’s “Featured Character of the Moment.” To illustrate, on the Phantom Magician banner, the Featured Character of the Moment is Joker.
According to the display on the banner, if you don’t get a 5-star character after making 79 attempts in a row, then the 80th attempt is sure to yield a 5-star character. Yet, it’s not certain that this 5-star character will be the Most Wanted one. Instead, when the counter reaches 80/80 for the first time, you have a 50% chance of pulling the Most Wanted character.
If you fail to secure the Most Wanted character during a 50% chance draw, you’ll have to accumulate 80 more pulls to fill up your ‘luck counter’. Once this counter reaches the maximum of 80 times, you will definitely obtain the Most Wanted character in your next pull.
In other words, if you draw any top-tier character during the process, it will reset your total, meaning that after your 79th draw (which could happen to be a 5-star), you’ll need to start building up the pity counter again. Gacha games can sometimes be ruthless in their efforts to extract as much money from players as possible, so watch out for being enticed into spending excessively.
Let’s discuss the matter of expense now. Each time you pull the banner, it costs 150 gems. To reach the guaranteed ‘Most Wanted’ pull with 160 pulls, the total cost would be 24,000 gems. Keep in mind that additional random 5-star pulls could potentially interfere with this tally. If you were to purchase these many gems directly, it would amount to approximately $400. The shop’s platinum bundles offer a slightly more affordable path, but not by much.
