Following the spread of an unverified tale suggesting interdimensional mutant monkeys were mocking Superman on the internet, fresh insights suggest that James Gunn‘s Superman film not only satirizes the Snyder Cut but also incorporates a plot centered around a fictitious news narrative orchestrated by Lex Luthor.
It’s evident that Gunn is finding it difficult to resist expressing his personal views in the DCU and the Superman movie, making it less optimistic and more focused on pushing an ideology. This approach has not yielded positive results for franchises like Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, Doctor Who, among others.
Note: Spoilers follow.

More on the monkey trolls
Recently, a story that initially seemed like an outlandish rumor emerged and has now been verified as factual. Additional details have come to light, thanks in part to Gary Buechler from the Nerdrotic YouTube channel who first disclosed the information, and Chris Gore of Film Threat.
The initial leak said:
In the film, Superman feels disheartened by negative responses on social media, particularly the recurring hashtag #SuperShit causing him distress. Simultaneously, in Lex’s alternate universe, countless monkey mutants are seen aggressively typing at their keyboards, overwhelming social media with derogatory posts aimed at Superman.
After the leak, they reached out to a source who was part of the Superman screen tests involving Gunn, as I re-examined my writings. (Buechler and Gore)
In an on-air disclosure, Buechler shared that the monkey sequence happens offscreen and runs approximately 30 seconds long.
After the leak, Scooper ViewerAnon added their thoughts and stated that #SuperShit was intended as a humorous element and is considered one of the funniest jokes in the film.
Gunn targets the Snyder Cut
Beyond just stopping, Buechler and Gore unveiled an interesting detail: Gunn hinted at elements of the Snyder Cut in Superman. However, these indications seem less than favorable (although things may yet alter before the final version).
In simpler terms, although Gunn didn’t explicitly mention the Snyder Cut, his comments might suggest he is poking fun at it indirectly. This could manifest as a joke about something being excessively long (like four hours) or a comment about needing an extended version of something in the movie, which might be interpreted as a reference to the extended length of the Snyder Cut.
It seems as if Gunn is mocking fans of the Snyder Cut, many of whom are upset about Henry Cavill no longer playing Superman and Gunn taking over the DCU. Essentially, it appears he’s finding amusement at their expense, much like how Gunn might be using online troll monkeys to retaliate against those who had him dismissed from Disney years ago – a reaction similar to what led to his termination… which brings us to…
Lex’s fake news campaign against Superman
It appears increasingly clear (in my opinion) that James Gunn isn’t primarily focusing on telling compelling stories within the DC universe, but rather, he’s using DC and Superman as a platform to convey a particular message or ideology. Essentially, it seems like Gunn is leveraging DC to deliver lectures to his audience about his personal views on contemporary issues.
Following Buechler and Gore’s analysis, the storyline of Superman involves Lex Luthor orchestrating a deceptive propaganda against Superman, which can be likened to modern-day fake news about him. Guess who James Gunn is aiming his criticism at with this Superman portrayal? Well, it’s no secret to anyone. If you’re curious about the specific plot details, feel free to check out the video linked above. However, it’s clear that Gunn uses Superman as a symbol to comment on current societal issues.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but point out an interesting pattern. Just like he did with the “Creature Commandos” project that ignited his journey in the DC Universe, Gunn has once again shown his signature touch. I had hoped that experience would have been a one-time thing, but it appears Gunn, now holding the reins of power, can’t resist the urge to leave his mark. He even slipped himself into the opening of “Creature Commandos,” and the promotional materials for “Superman” are all about Gunn himself. Draw your own conclusions from that.
Additionally, Gore brought attention to the fact that DC’s CinemaCon presentation was solely focused on Gunn—and even now, we’re still in the dark about what the actual movie is really about.
In my critique, James Gunn’s take on Superman presents an intriguing twist with mutant monkeys dominating social networks, subtle jabs at the Snyder Cut, and a gripping narrative around false news – perhaps to add a dash of contemporary edge over the classic themes of truth, justice, and the American spirit.
On July 11th, you’ll find Superman soaring onto movie screens, with an impressive cast that includes David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult.
