Trigger warning: This article contains mentions of sexual abuse and rape.
According to reports from TMZ, during a second court appearance, Miriam Haley, who claims Harvey Weinstein raped her, appeared emotional as she recounted details of the purported incident that occurred at his Manhattan apartment.
On Wednesday during Weinstein’s second trial, a former television production assistant named Haley appeared as a witness and disclosed the specifics of an alleged 2006 rape incident she experienced.
She asserted that the movie producer extended an invitation to his New York apartment following her receiving tickets to the Clerks II film debut in California, which she agreed to attend.
According to reports, the accuser stated that she found herself sitting next to Weinstein on a couch, following which he unexpectedly moved towards her and tried to forcefully kiss her. She alleged that he then overpowered her, pulling her onto the bed, where he is said to have raped her subsequently.
As per the report, Haley stated that she informed Weinstein she was menstruating and using a tampon. She alleged that he removed the tampon and performed oral sex on her.
During an alleged assault, the ex-television production assistant is said to have acknowledged that she was “being raped,” and chose to mentally detach and bear through the ordeal.
According to reports, the accuser declared that she encountered the film producer back in 2004 during the London premiere of The Aviator. Haley asserted that he assisted her in securing a job as a Production Assistant on Project Runway, and it wasn’t until the alleged incident in 2006 that their relationship became sexual.
In this context, Haley is one of three individuals who are testifying anew in the New York retrial of the film producer. Her current testimony aligns with her previous account from his initial trial that took place five years ago, as reported by the publication.
During his 2020 trial, Weinstein was found guilty of sexually abusing Mariam and another accuser, actress Jessica Mann. However, these convictions were later vacated when it emerged that his legal rights had allegedly been infringed upon during the trial, as decided by an appellate court. This information comes from a published report.
