Throughout his professional journey, Guy Ritchie has orchestrated numerous fight sequences – a whopping two hundred of them! He certainly has a knack for choreographing battles. Now, he’s gearing up to lead another film brimming with action-packed fights. Interestingly, he will be assuming the directorial role previously held by Doug Liman in Amazon MGM Studios’ Road House 2. However, despite some changes happening behind the camera, we can still expect Jake Gyllenhaal to reprise his role as Elwood Dalton in this sequel.
According to Variety, Ritchie (known from ‘Sherlock Holmes’ and ‘The Gentleman’) has confirmed he will direct the sequel of one of Prime Video’s most successful productions ever. He is coming back to Amazon MGM for his third project with this studio. Earlier, he wrote and directed the film ‘The Covenant’. Additionally, he will be performing dual roles in his upcoming movie, ‘In the Grey‘, which currently lacks a confirmed release date.
Besides Ritchie, another individual with a rich background in action films is joining the sequel’s writing team. Will Beall, known for his work on ‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die’ and ‘Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F’, will be crafting the script. As of now, specifics about the storyline remain undisclosed. The 2024 remake/reboot/reimagining concluded with Elwood Dalton, a former UFC fighter, departing from a bar in the Florida Keys towards an unspecified location. Wherever he lands, it will likely be a place with a bar that needs some tidying up.
It’s uncertain where Dalton will go for his next job, but it’s not surprising that Liman won’t return to continue the bouncer’s tale. The director openly expressed his displeasure with Amazon choosing to release the film exclusively on streaming platforms. His skepticism proved valid as Road House turned out to be their biggest streaming success yet. Consequently, Amazon swiftly confirmed plans for a sequel.
The movie, “Road House,” is equally enjoyable and full of excitement, much like its predecessor! Just as the original would have been more thrilling in a crowded theater, so does Road House. However, it’s uncertain if Amazon will offer viewers the opportunity to watch it there with Road House 2. All we can say is that with Guy Ritchie’s expertise in filming fights, the movie certainly deserves a shot at gracing the big screens.
