Beyond being a highly sought-after young actor in Hollywood, Jenna Ortega is also eagerly venturing into film directing. In a recent conversation with V Magazine, the star of “Wednesday” revealed that she’s now prepared to breathe life into a script she has nurtured and kept close for almost a decade.
Ortega shared that the project is an idea she had since she initially joined the industry as a child, but only recently feels ready to bring it to life. As she put it, “I’ve had this script for nearly a decade now, and it seems strange because it’s something I dreamt up when I was young, just starting out in this profession, and it’s only now that I’m finally moving forward with the production.
Even though Ortega is still in the initial stages, she’s diligently assembling both the creative and practical aspects in her thoughts. As she put it, “I’m simply fitting the puzzle pieces together in my mind. I believe I needed a few years of that experience to grasp the sequence of events.
Ortega aspires to be more than just an actress in films; her true passion lies in directing. “That’s likely what I desire most,” she expressed. “I can visualize myself doing it, and I believe that’s where I belong.” She feels that this role aligns better with how her mind operates, and sometimes she even views her acting through a director’s lens.
As a dedicated follower, I haven’t taken the helm as a director just yet, but I’ve ventured into creative leadership positions. I’ve served as an executive producer on “Death of a Unicorn” and the upcoming season of “Wednesday.” Additionally, I will be both starring in and producing “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” a thriller penned by Edward Shults. This project will feature The Weeknd and Barry Keoghan as my co-stars.
Regarding her long-term aspirations as a creative artist, Ortega highlighted her intention to focus solely on directing in the future. She explained, “I don’t plan to appear in the projects I create moving forward, but initially, since I’ve built more opportunities for myself as an actor, I might utilize that platform as a starting point.
Having a burning zeal spanning over ten years driving her ambition and supported by the industry’s current trends, Jenna Ortega venturing into directing might signal an exciting new phase in her already distinguished career. Regardless of whether she appears on-screen or operates behind it, Ortega is undeniably crafting her own story—and paving the way for a fresh cohort of storytellers as well.
