Following a significantly dramatic second episode, the third installment in The Last of Us season two seemed somewhat less intense but equally captivating. We delved deeper into the characters’ development, such as Ellie’s grief over Joel’s passing, shifting feelings between Dina and Ellie, and Tommy assuming responsibility for his late brother’s ward. Although this episode had fewer action scenes in The Last of Us, it was filled with thought-provoking moments that required careful consideration. Here you will find our comprehensive recap of The Last of Us season two, episode three.
New Revelations From The Last of Us Season 2, Episode 3
Ellie and Joel Didn’t Speak After She Yelled At Him at the Dance
In episode three of The Last of Us season two, we discover a poignant revelation from Ellie: she and Joel never truly reconciled following their altercation on New Year’s Day. After Joel’s passing, Ellie found herself at the hospital, expressing remorse over not speaking to him when he was still alive. She admits that after their fight, she returned home, only to find Joel on the porch, but chose not to engage with him.
In summary, it appears that Ellie is being dishonest with Gail regarding various matters throughout the episode of “The Last of Us.” There’s reason to question whether she might be lying about her last conversation with Joel as well. However, for the time being, we must accept her version of events.
Ellie Is on a Mostly Solo Journey of Revenge, But Dina Comes with Her
In the third episode of season two for “The Last of Us”, Ellie has fully recovered. This sets the stage for her seeking retribution against Abby, the one responsible for Joel’s death. Dina, Ellie’s companion, discloses that she not only knows Abby and her Firefly comrades by name but also their origin. Dina mentions having spotted a yellow W.L.F. patch (depicting a wolf) on the bags of those who killed Joel. Moreover, she learned from Eugene that regional groups like the Washington Liberation Front in Seattle were once battling against FEDRA. Ellie, Dina, and Tommy share this information with the town council, as Tommy suggests, to seek justice for Joel’s demise.
The council votes against the plan with a margin of 8 to 3. However, this doesn’t deter Ellie. With Dina’s assistance and unexpected help, she prepares to journey from Jackson to Seattle, facing the W.L.F. Fireflies alone. What could possibly go wrong?
Seth Helps Ellie and Dina in The Last of Us Season 2, Episode 3
In the recent premiere of The Last of Us season two, Seth was using derogatory language towards Ellie and Dina. However, in more recent events, it appears that he has realized his past actions were wrong and now supports Ellie and Dina wholeheartedly. He even advocated for revenge on behalf of Joel’s death at the Jackson council hearing. While we feel his redemption arc could have been developed further, given our fondness for Seth, we are willing to accept it.
In summary, Seth ultimately permits Ellie to embark on her vengeful journey to Seattle. Whether this action is beneficial or detrimental is yet to be determined, but it’s what Ellie desires and requires most profoundly. Seth provides them with two weeks’ worth of essential supplies such as hardtack, bandages, alcohol, medication, batteries, which is a considerable amount in the current context. He expresses his willingness to join them, but he was injured during the New Year’s Day attack by friendly fire. Before Ellie departs, they share a handshake, indicating a tentative forgiveness for now. It’s hoped that this experience will teach Seth a lesson about avoiding hateful bigotry.
Ellie and Dina Arrive in Seattle
In roughly 12 minutes on-screen, Ellie and Dina traverse hundreds of miles and reach Seattle. By the end of episode three, they are found to be only nine miles from their destination. The initial glimpse of Seattle in The Last of Us suggests a largely deserted city, with decaying vehicles, worn FEDRA notices, and sadly, evidence of a small-scale massacre – one we recognize as the work of the W.L.F.
It’s quiet, Ellie and Dina note, too quiet. But hey, at least no one is shooting at them yet.
Seattle Is Not as Abandoned As Ellie and Dina Thought, and the W.L.F. is No Small Group
It’s not always what something appears to be on the surface; this is clearly demonstrated in the final minutes of episode three from The Last of Us season two. It turns out that Seattle isn’t merely peaceful but teems with the W.L.F. and its military forces. There are checkpoints, sophisticated security systems, guard towers with radio communication, and even functional tanks and vehicles. Worryingly, they also have a considerable army at their disposal. GULP!
We don’t see Abby in Seattle, but we do see one of her crew, Manny, working for the W.L.F.
New Questions From The Last of Us Season 2, Episode 3
What Is the Conflict Between the Scars and the W.L.F.? Are the Scars/Seraphites Innocent?
In this installment, we encounter a traditional religious sect, whom we nickname “The Prophet’s Followers.” They appear to have shunned technology from even post-apocalyptic times, adopting clothing reminiscent of medieval periods and employing hammers as protection. They express their desire for peace by distancing themselves from warfare, but are assailed by the W.L.F. This group will be referred to as “The Scars,” although they are famously known as Seraphites in the The Last of Us video game series.
It seems that the W.L.F., who are generally peaceful towards the Seraphites, have brutally attacked and killed a group of them. Abby and Dina surmise that Abby and her team might have been responsible for the violence, given Abby’s past actions against Joel. While we can understand their suspicions, it’s hard to fault them. However, Abby mentioned that the W.L.F. adhere to a moral code prohibiting them from harming the defenseless. This raises questions about whether she is mistaken or if the Scars are more deeply involved in this conflict than initially perceived.
Is Gail Right About Ellie in The Last of Us Season 2, Episode 3?
Gail implied to Tommy that Ellie may not change her ways. She explained, “Nurture can only shape things so much; the rest is inherent. If she’s following this path, it wasn’t one Joel guided her onto. They were walking together since the beginning.” It appears Ellie is heading towards a perilous fate in Seattle. Can the cycle of vengeance be halted? Judging by the third episode of The Last of Us season two, it seems unlikely, but we’ll keep some faith alive.
When Will Ellie and Dina Finally Get Together?
The chemistry between Dina and Ellie is palpable, intense as a blade’s edge. One can’t help but wonder, not if, but when, this dynamic duo will form a relationship. However, Dina maintains she’s with Jesse, yet she seeks Ellie’s opinion on her kissing skills, a trait Dina doesn’t normally express towards females. (Of course, she doesn’t.) In simpler terms, they’re taking their sweet time, but we queer folks know that even the end of the world can’t rush love like this.
The Last of Us airs Sundays at 9pm on Max and HBO.
