The Smashing Machine Trailer: Dwayne Johnson Looks Unrecognizable as Mark Kerr in Benny Safdie Directorial, WATCH

As an ardent fan, I can hardly contain my excitement about Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson taking on the role of Mark Kerr in the upcoming biopic, The Smashing Machine! In the first trailer of this gripping A24 production, Johnson breathes life into the iconic MMA fighter, depicting his journey through both triumphs and trials. Joining him is none other than my beloved Jungle Cruise co-star, Emily Blunt, who skillfully portrays Dawn, Kerr’s significant other in this moving tale. I can hardly wait to witness their chemistry on the big screen!

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Kerr reached the pinnacle of his career. With The Rock portraying him on screen, we follow Kerr’s path to winning the UFC championship. Simultaneously, we witness the challenges he faced in his battles with addiction, love, and loss.

Mark earned the nickname “The Relentless Fighter” due to his intense combat approach in the ring. He’s clinched the UFC Championship on two occasions, yet he’s grappled with an addiction to painkillers as well.

In the upcoming film, Johnson will have an opportunity to showcase his acting range since he’s never played a role like this before. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Johnson is using facial prosthetics to more closely resemble Kerr, and he’s been practicing an Ohio-region accent instead of his usual deep voice.

For a while now, the making of this film has been underway, as the leading actor and director, Benny Safdie, have been working together since 2019 when Johnson’s production company, Seven Bucks, obtained the rights to produce Kerr’s biopic.

Speaking of the movie’s star lineup, Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt will be accompanied by Ryan Bader, Bas Rutten, and Oleksandr Usyk. In terms of production, David Koplan, Johnson, Hiram Garcia, Dany Garcia, Safdie, and Eli Bush have signed up to finance the project.

The Smashing Machine is scheduled to release on October 3, 2025.
