Secret Wars LEAKS: X-Men Writer Drops HUGE Spoilers!

As a passionate film enthusiast, I must share some intriguing tidbits that have surfaced regarding upcoming Avengers epics, “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars.” It appears legendary X-Men comic book writer Chris Claremont may have inadvertently spilled the beans on these highly anticipated movies.

At the Huntsville Pop Culture Expo 2025, the renowned X-Men comics author, Claremont, shared insights on the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

It’s likely that Claremont has detailed knowledge of the films, given his role as writer for the X-Men series, much like how Jim Starlin was familiar with Thanos in Infinity War and Endgame due to his creation.

Marvel Studios revealed the cast for “Avengers: Doomsday,” featuring the actors from the Fox “X-Men” series. Notably, Kevin Feige has hinted that a fresh era of mutants will unfold post-“Secret Wars,” possibly drawing inspiration from some of Claremont’s comic book stories.

Obvious spoiler warning for what follows.

Avengers: Secret Wars spoilers

Robert Downey Jr. playing multiple characters

Claremont reveals that Robert Downey Jr. will portray no less than four characters in the upcoming project. Previously announced was his role as Doctor Doom, but now Claremont hints at an even more intriguing performance from RDJ.

Are you familiar with the commercial for the currently-in-production Marvel film featuring 50 superheroes and 4 supervillains? It’s not the X-Men movie, but it shares some similarities. You should definitely check it out because Robert Downey Jr. will be playing three roles, one of which is a villain as Iron Man, although that might cause some confusion.

Chris Evans also playing multiple characters

As a devoted cinephile, I’ve heard whispers that Chris Evans might return to the big screen, and as per Claremont, he’s set to embody not just one character, but several – with Captain Hydra being one of them.

Instead, it seems they chose Chris Evans to portray multiple versions of Captain America – young, evil, or even a version aligned with Hydra… or something along those lines. Frankly, I can’t help but wonder why they didn’t have the original Avengers ensemble take on all roles – villains, assistants, sidekicks and more.

Scarlet Witch returning

Despite earlier statements suggesting otherwise, Claremont affirmatively verifies that Elizabeth Olsen will indeed reprise her role as Scarlet Witch.

It seems that, after emphatically refuting it for at least a year, Elizabeth Olsen is returning to her role as the Scarlet Witch, not mistakenly referred to as “the” or “Scarlett Johansson”.

It seems like she’ll return not just as the Scarlet Witch, but as a improved version of her character. This leads me to wonder if perhaps Vision might also be making a comeback.

Famke Janssen is back

Claremont has revealed that Famke Janssen, known for her role as Jean Grey in the Fox Marvel X-Men films, will make a return – specifically as the character Phoenix. It’s worth noting that one of Feige’s preferred X-Men stories from the comics is the ‘Phoenix Saga’, penned by Claremont himself.

Essentially, it appears that the classic X-Men team members are making a comeback. There was some uncertainty about Famke Janssen’s return, but now it’s confirmed – she will be rejoining the cast, though this time as Phoenix, if you catch my drift? So, in essence, it’s like the original X-Men lineup is back, with a twist.

Psylocke coming back

As a movie buff, I’m thrilled to share that Claremont hints at Psylocke’s reappearance in either ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ or ‘Secret Wars.’ However, it seems Claremont has some definite insights about the character’s future, which may suggest a departure from the Asian origin of the character portrayed by Olivia Munn in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse,’ who is of Chinese-Vietnamese descent. This could mean a new actress will step into the Psylocke role for these upcoming films.

It seems that Psylocke will return, but she’ll no longer be portrayed as Asian; she’ll retain her familiar costume.

Big Wolverine info

Chris Claremont is still revealing major surprises, however, it’s worth noting that this particular revelation might be a rumor, possibly stemming from conversations he had with industry professionals. As I understand it, the details haven’t yet surfaced online. Claremont suggests that Wolverine could eliminate a significant character.

You know, there’s talk that Wolverine is going to kill an important character – and I can’t help but wonder why they would do this and delay the first X-Men movie for three years. Why not make this the initial X-Men film instead? The Avengers can wait, right? It’s been 20 years already, let’s get it right now! [Cheers]

Fantastic Four

Claremont adds further insights on the Fantastic Four, reinforcing the fact that their origin story will not be explored in the MCU. Additionally, it’s been made clear through the latest associated MCU comic book that the Fantastic Four have existed for a span of four years now.

Ah, it seems the Fantastic Four (FF) are returning – hold on, they’ve actually returned already, if not, they’ll be back by July. This return sets up the fact that the FF will have been absent for three years when they encounter Galactus.

Couldn’t help but notice that he appears smaller than in the comics where Godzilla towers over everything. Is there a reason for this difference in size now?

You know what it’s like to deal with Marvel continuity.

A Massive Cast of Marvel Heroes and Villains

Chris Claremont added he’s fascinated in regards to what the MCU is doing with all the characters:

However intriguing it is, the movie features approximately 20 to 40 primary characters, ranging from top-tier (A+) to slightly below top-tier (B+), with a few B characters sprinkled in for humor.

The quantity of labeled, stylish chairs needed for the actors to wait before their scenes might extend as far as Mississippi.

Release info

The films “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” will hit the big screens on May 1, 2026, and May 7, 2027, respectively. The Russo brothers are at the helm of these projects, with filming ongoing in the United Kingdom as we speak.
