The latest version of Infinity Nikki is out now, and it’s particularly beneficial for part-time or casual stylists such as myself. Notable additions include the integration of cooperative multiplayer and a new dyeing system.
As a gamer, I’ll tell you this about Infold Games’ dress-up RPG – Infinity Nikki: Unlike other games where you battle fearsome enemies that require two to defeat, this one doesn’t follow that path. It’s more about the journey and less about the fight. However, even with all the quirky and friendly faces in Miraland, it can sometimes feel a bit lonely. Taking selfies might bring a moment of satisfaction, but what truly makes photos special is often their context and the company they’re shared with. That’s why the co-op mode in Infinity Nikki is a must-try: You get to team up with one of your friends to explore Miraland together, searching for the best photo spots, flaunting our outfits, and snapping group photos. It’s like having a partner in crime, making the experience even more enjoyable!
Collaborative photography in this game works efficiently, with one player controlling the camera settings like lighting, filters, and adjusting Nikki’s pose, similar to a regular picture. The other player focuses on posing their own character, Nikki. It’s much the same when handholding characters; the initiating player can move the other around. Unfortunately, the interaction ends upon entering photo mode, which means adorable handholding shots must be captured using the game’s screenshot feature instead.
As a gamer, I’ve got to share my experience with the Version 1.5 preview build that I was fortunate enough to test. Unfortunately, the build was more of a headache than an enjoyable gaming session. It froze regularly whenever I attempted to connect with fellow players, and the supposed co-op hub area just wouldn’t cooperate. Consequently, we missed out on the opportunity to check out the upcoming co-op game modes before release. It’s a shame because when the co-op functioned within the standard map, it showed promise.
In this update, the highlight for me is the new color customization feature, where you can change the hue of certain clothing items. Yet, there are restrictions more than I anticipated. To begin with, I wasn’t able to modify the color of any item at will. It appears that this coloring option isn’t universally applicable across all items.
The controversial feature is that this system is linked with the game’s purchasing options. If you don’t want to spend money, your dye choices will be restricted. This can be frustrating because it offers a glimpse of what could be, showing you how well certain items might match your ideal look, but then locks those items in specific colors. As someone who appreciates fashion in the game, this additional hurdle may discourage me from getting more involved.
Given the community’s existing frustration over gradual monetization within the game, like the recent under-the-radar alteration to the pity system that disadvantages players, this change could potentially fan those flames even further.
Regarding the features, this update is indeed fantastic for the Steam release, but upon examining early player feedback on the game’s technical aspects, it seems the build we tested recently isn’t much different from the one launched today. Consequently, Infold Games appears to have not been showcasing its full potential at this critical juncture.
