In the upcoming movie, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, it’s well-known that Marvel’s First Family will engage in a battle with the cosmic entity known as Galactus. However, it remains unclear how this planet-eating being, who consumes planets like breakfast, can be defeated. Given that the Fantastic Four inhabit an alternate timeline, there’s a possibility they might not actually defeat him, leading to the loss of their world. But considering the cheerful nature of the Fantastic Four and the grand return of their screen presence, it seems unlikely that the story would end with the death of billions due to Galactus. Therefore, we anticipate that the movie will find an alternate way to resolve this conflict without such a grim ending.
In an intriguing scenario, could Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) rescue his timeline using drastic methods? Might it be that he manages to combine his timeline with the Sacred Timeline somehow, through his extraordinary scientific calculations? It’s unclear how this would transpire, but given his genius intellect, we trust that Reed will handle the complexities. Additionally, his son Franklin might be instrumental in this process. We suspect that Reed Richards and his family will significantly contribute to the next two Avengers films. However, by saving his own reality, there’s a possibility he may have sealed the fate of another one.
In the story “First Steps,” set in an alternate 1960s, Reed’s manipulation of time could potentially disrupt the universe where Steve Rogers became Captain America in 1941 and Tony Stark transformed into Iron Man in 2008. Instead, the Fantastic Four may now occupy this heroic timeline void. Such a change would undoubtedly influence the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s history, even if only slightly. In our opinion, it doesn’t merely hint at an intrusion; it seems like the largest intrusion ever. However, it could also be a subtle, unnoticed incursion, where people might not realize history has been altered immediately. One may wonder how everyone would become aware that history has been tampered with? Additionally, this event might serve as the catalyst to bring an end to the Multiverse as we understand it.
For some time now, we’ve speculated that due to the events of “Secret Wars”, multiple timelines might merge into a single, significant timeline. This aligns with how the 2015 Jonathan Hickman comic book series concluded. Although Marvel Studios often alter the comics’ lore substantially, they generally maintain the major plot points. This setup enables all Marvel characters to coexist, including the X-Men. However, we believed that the Fantastic Four wouldn’t become a part of this new reality until after “Secret Wars”. Now, it seems possible that their integration might occur at the end of “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”.
In the comics, Reed Richards is known as the world’s brightest mind, yet his overconfidence can lead to self-destruction. It wouldn’t be surprising if his MCU version resorted to extreme actions without seeking advice from others in a critical situation. However, given that there’s no Tony Stark or Doctor Strange around, it’s unclear who he might consult when faced with such a monumental decision. We’ll have to watch and discover how Mr. Fantastic prevents Galactus from destroying his Earth as The Fantastic Four: First Steps premieres in theaters this July.
