In Act 3 of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, you’ll find yourself with plenty of freedom to explore the vast open world. This act introduces numerous new locations, activities, and boss battles for you to engage in. While there are many exciting places to discover, the game could be more effective at marking areas you’ve visited or reminding you of powerful foes you might need to revisit to defeat.
Let’s provide a detailed guide on the significant enemies found in Act 3, who grant achievements or trophies upon defeat. This guide will include their locations, strategies to beat them, and rewards for success.
This way, you can easily find out where these bosses are hiding, how to vanquish them, and what prizes await you after the battle!
Sprong
Spring, being the initial formidable boss you’re likely to face, is positioned partially submerged in the ocean, just north of the Endless Tower. Defeating him would be your first priority, as the prize you receive upon success will significantly simplify the rest of your journey.
In Expedition 33, Sprong has an abundance of health but follows a consistent attack pattern, making its strikes relatively straightforward to dodge or block – especially towards the game’s latter stages. As long as you can withstand and respond effectively to its most potent attacks, you should find it easy to conquer this foe.
Overcoming it grants you the “Sprong” achievement and the Cheater Pictos, an item that enables characters to perform two actions consecutively during their turn. This is one of the most effective Pictos in Expedition 33, making it easier for you to conquer all the other bosses on this list.
Grosse Tete
Grosse Tete can be a bit tricky to handle, but skillful players may potentially conquer it relatively early due to their superior parrying abilities. It lies to the east of the large snow-capped island, nestled on a smaller island adorned with orange trees.
This creature is extremely durable against damage, but luckily, it won’t require an empty health meter for defeat as it will self-destruct instead. In every assault by Grosse Tete, two more bounces are added to its combo. When it has carried out twelve attacks (resulting in 24 bounces), it will detonate and the battle will be yours to win.
Instead of granting an achievement, it provides a series of Warming Up Pictograms that boost your damage by 5% each turn, up to a maximum of five times.
Serpenphare
This striking spectacle is quite noticeable, being an ethereal, snakelike beast illuminated against the sky. You’ll find it hovering close to the vicinity of the Boat Graveyard, so simply navigate your way there and you’ll have a chance to come face-to-face with it.
Instead of merely striking swiftly with both its head and tail, the Serpenphare presents a formidable foe due to its ability to amass multiple shields each time it assaults. To overcome this creature effectively, one must possess either Maelle’s skill that can absorb these shields or utilize either Verso’s or Monoco’s abilities that inflict damage directly through the shields.
Achieving victory earns you the “Á On” award, and also grants the Energy Master Pictos, which boosts your AP gain from all sources by one.
Clea
Here, we’re venturing into an area that could accurately be labeled as belonging to a top-tier challenge, given Clea’s considerable difficulty level.
Above the southwestern tip of a large snowy island floats an array of sky rocks, with a damaged mansion at their center serving as a gateway to the Flying Manor district. In this area, you’ll encounter harder versions of four bosses you’ve faced earlier in the game, which must be defeated to unlock the manor door. Venture inside and you’ll meet Clea, the colorful sister of Alicia and Verso, who was so powerful she painted herself as a form of rebellion against her mother.
Clea is set to summon multiple painted monsters to assault you. To fend off these attacks successfully, your parrying skills must be flawless since any missed counterattacks will allow her to recover over half a million HP in each turn. Your strategy should either involve a swift-moving party that outruns her healing rate or an unerring ability to parry every blow to prevent her from recuperating.
As a gamer, I’ll snag the “Conquer Clea” trophy once I take her down, along with Clea’s Life Picto, a nifty ability that fully restores characters if they haven’t suffered damage since their last move, and guess what? It even works in tandem with Cheater!
Simon
Simon stands out as the ultimate boss, surpassing all other formidable bosses. Engaging with him should be a last resort, ideally when your character has reached level 90 or beyond, given his exceptional difficulty in the game.
In a location known as “The Abyss,” which is reachable via Renoir’s Sketches, you’ll discover him. To gain access, you must have fulfilled Esquie’s bond side missions and acquired the ability to submerge underwater through those tasks. Afterward, you may enter Renoir’s Sketches by approaching the portal situated in the ocean between Visages and Siréne.
To find him, go to a place called “The Abyss,” which can be accessed via Renoir’s sketchbook. First, complete Esquie’s side missions related to his bond, then learn how to dive underwater from those tasks. Once you’ve done that, look for the portal in the ocean between Visages and Siréne to enter Renoir’s sketchbook.
In simpler terms, the boss fight against Simon is challenging due to his powerful and sometimes unjust abilities, such as draining your team’s health to keep them at 1 hit point, and eliminating a team member if they faint during his turn, preventing their revival. This fight requires a deep understanding of all game mechanics. A strategy that might work well is building a speed-focused team setup aimed at quickly achieving a 3/3 Gradient Charge for Maelle, enabling her to defeat Simon with a single use of her Gommage Gradient Attack.
By accomplishing this task, you’ll unlock the “Peace At Last” achievement and the unique weapon called Simoso, which can exclusively be wielded by the character Verso. However, for the weapon to grant immortality, Verso must maintain a Perfection Rank of A or higher.
