Diddy Trial Update: Judge Allows Cassie Ventura’s Assault Video to be Shown to Jury in Court

In a recent court decision, a judge based in New York has determined that video evidence depicting Sean “Diddy” Combs physically attacking his former girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, in a hotel in Los Angeles during 2016 can be used as evidence in the upcoming trial concerning allegations of sex trafficking and racketeering against Combs.

In simpler terms, Judge Arun Subramanian rejected the defense’s argument that the video was doctored, explaining, “The defense doesn’t have enough evidence to declare the video inadmissible. There’s no undue harm caused to Mr. Combs.

The initial video, acquired by CNN, shows Combs forcibly kicking and pulling Ventura down a hotel corridor. However, Combs’ lawyers claimed that the recording had been tampered with. Nevertheless, CNN maintains that there has been no editing involved.

At the court hearing held on Friday, Combs’ lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, hinted at a defense approach aimed at depicting Combs as partaking in a mutually agreed upon “open relationship” lifestyle, and providing reasons for inviting sex workers to engage in his intimate activities.

In a certain lifestyle, often referred to as ‘swinging’, the individual was participating, and he considered this acceptable. His belief stemmed from the fact that it’s a practice that’s quite prevalent in society.

Combs denies the accusations that he faces, which encompass allegations such as sex trafficking, racketeering, and facilitating prostitution through transportation.

Legal representatives are aiming to incorporate evidence regarding a specific medical process, asserting its significance in relation to accusations of sex trafficking. They claim this procedure illustrates Combs’ dominion over an alleged victim. As of now, Judge Subramanian has not made a ruling on whether this unidentified medical procedure can be presented in court.

Regardless of various efforts made to postpone it, the judge decided last week that the trial will take place as planned on May 5, with the jury selection process commencing first. The opening statements are set for May 12.

On Friday, Diddy attended a court session where U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian denied his request for delay, expressing uncertainty about insufficient time for preparation. Following a two-hour hearing, Combs left the courtroom with a smile and a wave to some individuals, among them his mother.

55-year-old Combs has been in detention at the Special Housing Unit of the Metropolitan Detention Center since his arrest in September of last year.
