Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – The best skills for every character

In the game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, every character has a distinct ability tree with multiple paths, making it challenging to determine the optimal skills for each individual. However, various tactics can prove successful, and in this guide, we’ve compiled sets for each character that we find straightforward and effective in combat situations.

Best Gustave skills

Gustave’s Initial Attack Skill Remains Exceptional Throughout the Game: Having one of Gustave’s initial abilities retain its effectiveness throughout most of the game is advantageous. The ability to dish out five strikes at a relatively low Action Point (AP) cost is ideal for amassing his Overcharge, making it a valuable skill.

Excessively Charge (Ability) – Being a key aspect of Gustave’s personality, this ability should not be overlooked. When fully powered, it can inflict significant damage on opponents and also includes a Break feature.

Strong – Sometimes it’s better not to spend the whole turn boosting allies, but if there’s a chance, Gustave can leverage that moment to increase the damage capacity of his comrades.

Making a Strike Mark – This is yet another strategic ability that inflicts some damage on its own. Employing it prior to an ally launching a potent attack is an excellent tactic.

In the heat of battle, healing is crucial, especially if it can also inflict damage. For optimal results in Expedition 33, adhere to our guide on constructing a Burn build that maximizes its effectiveness. You’ll be well-prepared then.

Heavy Assault – Six strong attacks dealing significant damage may not be something to dismiss, despite the high AP expense, which can be mitigated by adhering to our optimal Pictos and Luminas guide. Additionally, critical hits double-charge Overcharge, so you only need two out of six attacks to critically hit to fill it up in a single turn.

Best Lune skills

Strategy for Wildfires: Aim to keep ignition as your fundamental approach, since Wildfires are consistently dependable in this regard. They have a minimal AP cost and can simultaneously torch every target present.

Mayhem – Although it may not offer the highest damage as you advance, having a Break skill at your disposal can prove useful in many situations.

Revitalisation – Healing is always handy and healing the entire party at once is even better.

Rebirth – This refers to your ability to be rejuvenated or brought back to life. However, the number of times you can undergo this process is restricted. But don’t worry, if you manage to accumulate sufficient light energy traces, it will come at no cost to you.

One of Lune’s powerful attacking moves, the Lightning Dance unleashes up to seven strikes with a high chance of critical hits. In addition, it can trigger an extra hit up to 7 times, resulting in a maximum of 14 heavy damage strikes.

Inferno – Sear – This destructive force is undoubtedly the ruler, and although fine-tuning the right effects to cause maximum harm to Inferno may require some effort, the immense amount of damage and Burn it causes is more than compensatory.

Best Maelle skills

Mezzo Forte – Maintaining Maelle’s positions might be challenging, but with Mezzo Forte, it becomes effortless because it keeps her position while boosting her Action Points (AP).

With Swift Stride, you’ll find this method to be the smoothest and most reliable approach to transition Maelle into the Virtuose Stance. Aiming for this stance is always advisable when working with her.

Flourish Fury – This is Maelle’s most potent move before she learns her priciest abilities, and it’s particularly useful for a Break as well.

As a gamer, I can’t stand those pesky shields that hinder my progress. This skill, however, makes short work of them, obliterating every single one they’ve stacked up with just one swift move.

Stendhal – Using Defenceless on oneself may be slightly irritating, yet it’s justified considering the immense destruction that this attack is capable of inflicting.

Transform or substitute “Pyrolyse” with “Charring”, which involves a similar process but sounds more natural and easier to understand. Charring also delivers massive damage potential while inflicting the Burn effect.

Best Sciel skills

Here’s the key maneuver: This one move sets everything up perfectly for the whole gathering, granting everyone Shell, Power, and Speed all at once.

As a skilled gamer, I love harnessing the power of Searing Bond. This move, when combined with Burn, offers an affordable and effortless method to activate Foretell, paving the way for Sciel’s subsequent strategies.

Dark Wave – High damage to all enemies multiple times. That’s all there is to this one.

Adjustment – Should the sequence of moves not be advantageous for you, Sciel offers a solution by compelling an ally to act instantaneously, granting them Action Points (AP) in the process.

Last Resort: This is packed with all the essentials – it’s a devastating Break attack that delivers the utmost Foretell effect, dealing immense damage.

Twilight Dance: This is the powerful move you should constantly aim for when using Sciel. It inflicts four heavy blows of intense damage, which can be amplified by Foretell charges, and also prolongs the effects of Twilight.

Best Verso skills

From Fire – Once again, healing from Burn is good because your foes should always be burned.

Rank Booster (for Light Holder) – Verso strives for higher perfection levels to amplify his damage output and enhance his skills, thus securing a guaranteed +1 boost in his rank is crucial.

Leadership – Reducing rank is annoying, but giving extra AP to all allies is invaluable.

Blitz: On occasion, this term can be quite useful; it refers to instantaneously defeating weakened opponents, which can save you in tight spots.

I also have a more colloquial version:

Blitz: Sometimes, you’ve got the chance to take out an opponent who’s almost beaten. That’s what Blitz means – it’s like finishing them off before they can finish you!

As a devoted fan, I’ve got to say, the End Bringer is nothing short of astonishing! Six extreme hits of physical damage are already impressive, but when Verso ranks up and elongates an enemy’s stun duration, it takes power to a whole new level. It’s downright incredible!

Phantom Stars – Each character in your team gets a special “Break” attack, which is Verso’s and inflicts heavy damage over five consecutive strikes. And if your rank is S, you only need to spend 5 Action Points (AP) instead of the usual 9.

Best Monoco skills

Chalier Combo – Six high damage hits is pretty great, nothing more to this one.

Braseleur Smash – This is a move by Monoco that allows for the accumulation of Burn stacks at a relatively low cost, making it essential to keep it readily available.

Sapling Absorption: Receiving three strikes inflicting heavy, dark damage while also recuperating health will enable Monoco to stay in combat for an extended period. Additionally, it triggers a significant rotation on his Mask Wheel.

Shield-Piercing Ability – Shields can be quite bothersome, but with this skill, attacks can penetrate their defense, causing damage even if the enemy is heavily fortified.

Diminishing the Health of the Cultist: Purposefully reducing Monoco’s health points is quite challenging, but if you successfully do so, it might lead to a highly effective strike.

Crash the Doorkeeper: The required Break skill, but it additionally inflicts substantial damage on all foes simultaneously.
